red dot gives a more open view while the other limits your field of vision while looking down

Red dot is more open, but reflex sights zoom in a little more. Personally I prefer reflex for longer range encounters and red dot for close quarters.

What they Said^. The Red Dot seems to be a 1x optics with a slender frame giving you a more open field of view with or without aiming down sight. Now the Holo/Reflex feels like a 1.5x-2x zoom optics with a larger frame around the lens, it causes your weapon to take up more of the screen limiting your field of you. Now the slightly extra boost in optical power can help with long range encounters but I don't think enough to make a significant difference.
