I really want an Xbox 360, but after seeing all of this bad press about broken 360's (including the guy who has owned 12) I am not so sure. I need to know if the Xbox 360's benefits outweigh the risks and is worth getting today, or if I should just wait until they settle the problem instead. (hopefully by Christmas)

I just want to make sure my money goes into something that actually works... Thanks in advance for your insight.

yeah, just get a warranty.. there's been rumours of those quieter better ones for a while.. but i have a feeling you'd be waiting till next year to get one anyway. (stores will want to sell off the old stock first anyway.. so i wouldn't hold out for a newer one)

if you do get one, buy extended warranty because chances are it will break down or have some other problem....

if you dont like xbox 360 exclusive games such as halo 3 or gears or any other exclusive, get a ps3.

i got both and im gonna buy pretty much allthe nonexclusivegames for my ps3 mostly bc i am about to be on my FOURTH 360. its a headache. if it breaks, you gotta call xbox, go through a 30 minute pointless troubleshooting ordeal, get a box shipping to you which takes 3 days, ship the box which takes 3 days, wait for them to fix it or not which takes 3 days, and then ship you your original or refurbished console which takes 3 days. keep in mind these are business days. mine has been broken since june 10. They have been unbelievably slow. hopefully i will get it back by july 10. hoping to have it back1 month later? atrocious head-achingly horrendously awfulcustomer service.

Happy B-Day! Congrats on graduation! And just make sure you get a warranty on your 360 & you'll be fine, (or get an Elite, they are much more reliable). Just get a warranty though.

Just get extra warranty. You already have a year at Microsoft from the start, get 2 extra years for $ 30 before that year runs out, and you are safe. If anything happens it will be taken care of for free.

It's safe right now IMO. I've had mine for over a year and it hasn't broken. And you aren't going to see people making threads about how theirs is working fine.

Yeah, just try to keep it cool (off carpet and such), plug it into the wall, try to keep it dust free and buy a replacement plan or warranty and you'll have nothing to worry about. Oh and get the warranty from the store so that way you don't have to deal with microsoft. You can just take it there and get it fixed or a new one.

I'll barely have the money for the XBox 360, there is no way I would be able to pony up the extra 200$ or so for a PS3.

I didn't even get my PS2 until they were down to about 200$.:P

But actually I am looking at a lot of first party titles so it wouldn't work out at all in the grand scheme of things anyway.

Edit: meant to quote pjhtiger on this one, hit the wrong key.8)

Just buy an extended warranty and you are good to go, I think you are pretty safe with the X360. I only had to get my first one replaced and haven't had a problem since and my Elite works perfectly with no problems as well.

Umm if you just graduated HS and goin to college don't you think a laptop would do you more wonders, unless you already have one.

P.s. If your getting it as a gift your damn lucky I have to work all summer to get my laptop.

I've already got this kinda stuff taken care of. My family is BIG on education. You do make a valid point there though.
