Ok... I've heard this guy go on and on when Crysis first came out talking about it wouldn't run on consoles. Then, he comes out and gets mad at PC fanboys for pirating his game then he wants to release his game on the very consoles he bashed in the beginning. Now he's throwing around predicitions that there would be a new console in 2012 because the current consoles aren't "powerful enough" for his Cryengine 3. He went so far to say he want's his game to look better on new hardware than look good as possible on current hardware. I'm getting sick of this dude. He's saying his engine is "next-gen ready". Well... why don't you hold your game and your engine until next gen then? Let PS3 and 360 live out!

dont worry, cryengine 3 will make an appreance on the current consoles, but it will be the max they can achieve. ID have stated that RAGE is on its way to the consoles to, and its a very similar and powerful engine. the cryengine 3 and the engine behind RAGE will help carry over dev's to teh real next gen as they learn to max out the engines, in a similar way that the DOOM 3 engine appeared on both the xbox and the 360 in different formats.

I really don't like crytek. Why can't they just develop for what people have now instead of trying to develop for technology that's 3 years down the road?

What do you mean the current consoles aren't powerful enough for CryEngine3...? Earlier this year at GDC they ran a tech demo on both 360 and PS3 and it worked flawlessly...?

It was exactly that - a tech demo - not a full title.Trust me, current consoles can't handle crysis.

The only difference between a tech demo and the full game, will be narration... the full game will have characters with dialogue... other than that... the tech demo is on the same engine that the full game will be built on... and therefore it plays exactly the same...

Well no, its definitely not nearly as simple as that. For one, a tech demo is likely to be pretty small. The pure amount of information that can be put on a DVD is a huge limitation on the level of graphics you can acheive, even with clever game engines like this or the one that iD are pioneering. I'm sure they could make something absolutely insanely good looking, but to acheive that level of quality over an entire 8 hour+ game is a whole nother story. Having any sort of open-world aspects just makes everything even more complicated cuz the times it takes for textures to load and whatnot is very important.

Anyways, this doesn't matter cuz a small developer like Crytek will have absolutely no 'sway' over what Microsoft or Sony will do as to their next consoles. Ifthey don't like the power of the current consoles, then thatstheir problem, not anybody else's.

Well he may run into some disappointment. Microsoft and Sony plan to prolong their consoles life span past five years. Sony even mentions to stick with the PS3 for at 10 years. Currently thats how they see things, but who knows?

They've got some serious sack saying that, i mean, if you were Hideo Kojima or Shigeru Miyamote, then MAYBE you could force sony/nintendo to release their consoles a little bit earlier, but not if you are a developer whose only achievement is to have made a game with godlike graphics

What I find funny is that this Crytek guy thinks he has some influence over what happens with the next gen hardware. They are a small developer that made a bleeding edge technology game that was pirated to hell and back - people were too afraid to buy it thinking it either wouldn't run, or would run like crap on their PC - and many were proved right. Designing something to run on the latest and greatest and hoping technology sales will catch up is entirely different to designing a game for a specific hardware setup like a console.

screw them and screw Crysis. I don't need to upgrade my console just to play their 1 game. I'll stick to this gen and let it live the way it's supposed to... years on in.

If he's saying his new game engine wont run on 360 or PS3, then why the heck did they apparently demo the tech on the consoles?
