Hey what's up fellow gamespotters. I played the Dead Space 2 demo recently and I have to say, I was very disappointed. It seemed exactly the same as the first game. Dead Space has come to be one of my most beloved games and I was expecting much, much more. The level design in the demo was very poor if you asked me. In the first few minutes of the demo you go through several hallways that are exactly the same with no enemies. It definitely gave you that deja vu feeling. I could only point out a few new additions to the game:
1. New Zero G: In the sequel they kind of handled it differently by giving you more freedom in the zero g sequences instead of just having you jump from once spot to another. In the demo I felt that the zero g was way too slow and ultimately, not that impressive. To be fair, from previews I've seen much better sequences of the new zero g where you're going pretty face. However, the question is how much will we see those faster zero g sequences.
2. Javelin gun- This was probably my favorite part of the demo. Using the javelin to launch your enemies and impale them to walls was very satisfying.
3. Enemies- I can't give you the deveeloper's names for the new enemies but I'll refer both of them simply as the spitter, and the babies. I found these new enemies to be great additions to the necromorphs. The spitter, as I call it, as you might have guessed, spits on you (well vomit but hey same thing!) and the spit slows you down creating a new and welcome challenge. The babies came in after a quick cutscence during the demo, and I will not lie, at first they did not seem very intimidating but their numbers is what gives you problems, despite them all being a one shot kill with the plasma cutter. I found myself quickly retreating to give me some room to breath. When these babies are added in with other necromorphs, you'll sure be in some trouble.
4. Reloading animation- Some of you might laugh at something so small and ultimately, insignificant. However, sometimes its the smalls things that matters. You can judge for yourself whether this is really a big deal, but for me I really liked it. When you reload your weapon in Dead Space 2 you can now see your clip fly out. How cool is that!?
Other than these new additions I have just mentioned the rest of the demo was just rinse and repeat from the frist game. Granted, this was only a demo, they could be hiding a lot for the full game. Well, hopefully that's exactly what they're doing, hiding A LOT. And also, sometimes "if it ain't broke don't fix it" isn't always so bad. What are you guys' thoughts on the demo?
