Doom 3 actually scared me so much that I had to stop playing it.

Dead Space is a fun horror shooter but doesn't scare me nearly as much.

this true doom 3 was a lot of cheap scares, but seeing as its the only thing that scares me anymore, more power to em

Doom 3 was just...epic

Dead Space was great and well executed (minus the up-close third person camera lol) but in the end it was another scifi horror.

I see no real similarity between dead space and doom 3, dead space had modern innovative gameplay...doom 3 harcked back to the olden days of FPS (not that thats a bad thing at all) and doom 3 frankly was much scarier, I mean the fact that almost every enviromant was pitch black meant you really had to be scared of what was lurking in the dark ahead cause frankly...its dark lol not to mention them zombies, if you didnt notice them before they got up close in the dark those glowing eyes shortly before they clobber you round the head were really unnerving

I never could stomach the fact that in Doom 3 you could not shoot while having the flashlight on. Really cheap game mechanic and just plain ridiculous.

same here, the flash light system in doom 3 is what made the game so scary, i loved that game. dead space did not really scare me at all, it was just a fun game

doom 3 was the only video game to ever scare me to the point that I actually screamed, I see the similarities between the 2 I guess but I still prefer Doom 3

I think dead space is more scary.

because of ambiant sound effects that keep telling you in wierd way that something somewhere is watching you and also in deadspace there are no safe spots.

in doom 3 graphics created the main horror, those pitch black corners would still create horror.

overall dead space wins in this generation, doom 3 won in last gen.

I've only started playing Dead Space, but I think I have a pretty good gist of what the game is all about.

The two are most definitely similar, but its still not necessarily fair to compare them directly.

Doom 3 really took the 'dark' corridor shooter to the next level. Its what no doubt gave inspiration to all future games of a similar genre.

In a nutshell, Doom 3 started it, Dead Space refined it.

I will say that the user interface for Dead Space is possibly one of the best I've ever seen in a game, though. I wish more developers would put an emphasis on keeping you in the experience. Valve have it figured out, too, and its a large reason their games tend to be so engrossing.
