If you plan on doing anything involving Co-op offline then Call of Duty: WaW is NOT for you. After Gears of War, Halo, Half-Life Svenco-op etc I imagined that they could have a decent Co-op experience, but it doesn't. The game itself is great, but the technical flaws destroy all that.

I'm just writing this to warn anybody else who plans on getting it for co-op because some of the reviews I read etc didn't cover this.

1) You cannot save the game playing co-op. My roommate and I just played halfway through the game but now have to restart because we couldn't save it. (Hopefully there is a code or something we can enter to unlock all the levels)

2) The split screen is terrible! It is in fact not even a split screen in the traditional vertical or horizonal, instead it's two squares that aren't aligned and cover only about 2/3rds of the screen leaving the rest to black wasted space. It looks like you're playing 4-player Goldeneye but player 2 and 3 aren't there.

The game is great, but these are big problems for playing co-op offline. This is not a co-op game, but a solo game. If you are getting it because you want to play with a friend, it's not worth it.

Ok, first of all, not everyone has your preferences. Second of all what mode are you playing the campaign on?

From what I have gathered, the CoD:WaW co-op campaign is more for competing with buddies on recruit or regular, to see who can get more points or just run through the levels for fun, not to complete the game. I don't know if you know, but barley any of the trophies/achievements are attainable in co-op, so you might as well play it solo if thats what you are looking for.

Sure, it's nowhere near the exerpience you get from Halo 3 or Gears of War co-op, but it's a first for the series and will hopefully improve, and the screen size really isn't that bad...unless you're on a TV smaller than 32". And you probably don't have any, but much like Halo, WaW has cheats similar to skulls in Halo, and it's fun to run through co-op campaign with some of them on.

And do yourself a favour and beat the game on any mode solo. Trust me, what you unlock after will be worth it to play split screen or online.

No not everyone has my preferences, but if people were looking for a good co-op game to play while sitting next to a friend, this game doesn't have it despite being praised for its co-op. I personally don't really care about the achievements, we just wanted to play the game. I hope it improves too, because it seems like a pretty half-ass job on the co-op front. The game itself is really fun, I just wish there as more emphasis in letting people know of the co-op flaws. I read the gamespot review and it never mentioned any of the things i stated. It's just disappointing when you are expecting something that isn't there. I just wanted to make sure the word is out there for others like me.

if its broken up into 4 squares, woudnt that mean 1/2 of the screen is black wasted space?

Sorry, I will clarify, 4 squares, but then since there are only 2 players the top left and top right are stretched out a bit (on a widescreen tv anyway) Below is a youtube video that shows it, on mine it's the opposite corners. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2utF37kdCJE&feature=related

I agree with you Mistablair! It is fun, but I bought it for my fella for Christmas thinking it would be a good game that we could play together to unlock the levels etc. It was fun playing against him and making fun of him if I beat him, but then we realised that you couldn't save the game or anything. Also, because we hadn't done the Solo player you can't play any of the other maps until you unlock them in single player. In short, great game, but not a co-op one.

Yeah, the co-op isn't great. However the game still boasts other great features espeacilly it's multiplayer. Call of Duty has always been about the sp and mp, if the standard of the co-op puts you off call of duty then you shouldnt have been playing it in the first place.
