I recently got the Gears 3 360 with two controllers which have the D-Pad, however ive heard they have break easily but the problem isnt as bad as before. How true is this and should i go a little easy on them?

I got two of the silver controllers a couple weeks after their release and both of the dpads came off of the controllers. I did not throw or treat them in a careless manner. They actually popped off and shot into te air. I was out $120 2 months after getting them. I stay away now I have two corded controllers.
