For example with steam. with the new introduction with steam, pc mac ps3. if you have the PS3 version, you can play over PSN, or you can log into your Steam account and play with your Steam friends. You also receive a code for a free PC and Mac copy of Portal 2. If you buy the Xbox version you will not receive a code for a free PC or Mac copy, and you will not be able to play with Steam, but you will be able to access co-op through Xbox Live I think the way valve approached portal 2 with steam=pc cross platform to os3 play together thing might just really hurt microsoft. as the servers will be better when connecting to a pc port thru ps3. Now thats irony. Valve is the cure, with all the ports you can connect to thru steams service=pc lag would be extremely less on playstation 3 compared to xbox live where the service is in a dedicated server where most originate in the states. i bet you anything valve will sign a agreement with sony for next ps4 while xbox suffers a lesson. So you can see why i think microsoft will learn a lesson in buisness.

The thing with LIVE is that i dont use any of the features it provides (atleast the eu version of live) and i dont think its fair to pay JUST to play online ( because thats pretty much what i do) when i bought my 360 i used the 1 free month and then bought 3 months on a special they had ( because reach was so darn addictive!) and now i m gold-less and it sucks... :( M$ should include online gameplay with the silver version of live :(

Seriously even if SONY do sign a 'deal' and make their service better they are still playing ctach up ... It's taken them what ... 2 generations (the original xbox had LIVE lets not forget) and almost 10 years to get right what xbox owners have been enjoying for years!! I have all three systems and Wii chat is well lets just not go there ... PSN is ok but come on talking through the blue tooth headset is like communicating in a wind tunnel compared to LIVE! You also get party chat ... cross game easy invites and if you get booted at least you can shout to your friends that this has happened ... PSN is free but it's also no where near as competent and LIVE and even SONY's charging service doesn't support the functionality that LIVE offers!!

I would also like to ask ... if this uber cross game, steam, play online thingy does happen for the PSN do you actually think you WONT start to get charged for that service?? I mean come on they currently charge for PSN + and on the face of it that adds little or no functionality just freebies ...

Like the guy said take it to system wars!!

For people who utilize what LIVE has to offer, such as voice chat, the pay is seems to worth it IMO.

But for people like me who just want to be able to play online, it's definitely not worth it, which is why I have not renewed my gold subscription since late last year.

I am not a fanboy. Having had a ps3 and currently owning a 360, I wil gladly pay for an online service that doesnt totally and completely suck (which is how I felt when using the free psn).

XBL has its faults for sure, but I found the PSN at times unusable.

NOPE!!! We get charged for a service others give for free... They keep cluttering the dashboard with advertisment, then they raise the price so they can add features like Facebook, Twitter, ESPN, Last FM, and a bunch of other**** that doesn't improveupon thegaming experience.

M$ is definitely ****ing us.

Exactly, and speaking of stability, that "free" service on PSN is down and they don't have a clue how or why. It could be up to TWO days. That has NEVER happened on XBL.

It would be nice to play against anyone you want regardless of the platform they're on, that aside, you really get what you paid for with Xbox Live and is really worth more than peanuts

well i was an avid sony guy till my fourth ps2 burnt up on me, and i had used it for online play, but you have to be a networking guy to be able to do it lol. But then i switched to xbox, and have been an xbox fan since, because of live! The one thing that keeps me on live, and not moving to ps3 yet, is the fact that psn is not policed, and never will be until you start paying for it! there are lots of incentives hidden on live, that are good for gamers. But if you dont think the anti hacking policing is worth your while, than go and play certain online games on ps3, youll find that 5 out of ten times you join someones lobby(ever since december lol) you get dropped into a hacked lobby. Where as at least on live, i have only been put into a hacked lobby twice in teh 4 years ive used the service. and both of those were on MW2 trying to do a little freeforall. So imo the live service is worth its money in buying it.

I would compare the value more closely to sunflower seeds, or maybe even pistachios.

Mod edit - Please do not make comparison-type threads on the 360 forum. You may not mention the PS3 here as per the house rules.
