Alright so now we've seen what realism actually can do to games, make them better or make them worse and we've surely all been argueing over GTA 4 whether it was too goddamn realistic or not. To be honest i hated all the realism in GTA4 (read my review if you want to), due to the fact that they took it to an almost extreme sim-like level, such as taking out five of your friends one at a time, take em to some hideous activity pretending to enjoy yourself half an hour and then drive them back, or watching extremely bad TV, or go on the internet which you can do practically nothing with except writing emails to your ingame friends. But worst off all is probably the colors, everything is brownish, and everything that ain't browinsh is gray, dark or blurred out. it just plain and simply took out alot of the fun.

I mean i can take realism to a certain degree, such as having to feed your character in a rpg (except for the system in GTASA where you could go on for months without as much as a biscuit) but then it just about stops, all that ingame friendship and TV and internet is just simply the boring stale potatoes that in reality is what fills you up instead of the big fat juicy steak you actually paid for instead of a load of potatoes and... (well you see where i am going with this)

So basically, your opinion on realism in games, good? bad?

I love either realistic or acradey games equally. I personally have avoided GTA, but I still wouldn;t mind any changes such as that, even if they do seem tedious to most. Variety is the spice of life, so both are great to me. Realism can make things fun, so enjoy it I say.

I don't care about realism at all. I play games for fun, I don't except a simulation.

It depends on the game and what I expect from it.

For a racing game like Forza I expect realism, and that's what I get. If it play Sega Rally I expect it to be far more arcadey and that's exactly what you get.

I expected GTAIV to be fun, but instead it tried to hard to be realistic, and lost a big chunk of what made the series fun.

I don't mind realism, provided it lends itself to the game i.e. a WWII shooter etc. At the same time I love a night of firing guys out of windshields in a variety of min-games (Flatlout: UC) with the mates.

As for the friends in GTAIV - I personally found them more of a hindrance than anything else. And the bland colour scheme has been a problem for many titles - look at GoW. If nothing else, Fable II will re-introduce you to real colour variation this Fall.

Both.

Sometimes Im in the mood for a stop and pop shooter a la Gears of War or Rainbow Six or sometimes I just wanna run and gun like Halo or Battlefield.

Although I play Rock Band more than either of them xD

It's good to have a balance. I love both realistic and non-realistic games equally but it's good to have both.

I like both Non-realistic, and realistic shooters equally.

I like Rainbow six, cause its just *BAM BAM* dead.

I also Like gears of war cause you can take a million bullets and live.

I dont like when its combined, like in Battlefield, or Call of duty.

Eventhough I really liked COD4, I like my non-realistic and realistic shooters kept seperatly.
