I like getting them, especially the ones that require some actual skill. Makes playing more fun but can also make it more frusturating. I got 14900 (should b 15000 but mercenaries is glitchy).
I really like it. The points don't matter as much to me, since that just says you play a lot of different games. The actual achievements can tell you how good someone is though.
If you run into an elite on Rainbow Six Vegas and he had 400 total gamerscore, no Rainbow Six SP achievements, and didn't even have any of the easier online ones (like kill five people in a row), you know that either the guy is cheating or that he is most likely horrible at the game but owns nothing else. I ran into a lot of elites in the first Vegas that were like that, all horrible players.
I like my gamerscore and I also love earning achievements i've found myself playing games that I would've never played before, but I think Microsoft should give you microsoft points every time you get 20,000 gamerpoints:D

it would b nice but they would lose money possibly. But then theirs that possibility that they would gain money b/c idiots would go buy more games for a higher score instead of just buying microsoft points.
