Going to force other games to push forward a unfinished game messing up there game reviews or push back there games to compete against the Christmas rush, and console sales in the slow time when people will have money to spend.

CaUs3

Halo3 sales isn't  the idea behind it, messing up Sony is. Halo3 will sell consoles, which means people that held off till Halo3 to buy the Xbox360 will now have one for christmas so they can buy more games for the Xbox360.

I think delaying it would lose more customers than showing it off even more, it's got a huge history, advertising isn't needed as much. Anything Halo will sell, it's like a movie with Tom Hanks, once people hear that name they will watch it.

E3 wasn't trashed it's happening in July, just it's exclusive to press and devs only, so no more freaks. And I actually think September is an opportune time to release, using Halo 2 as an example most sales happened at the midnight launch, with what? 5 million that night give or take? Halo 3 will make plenty of hardware and software sales and then boom GTA IV making it sell best on 360, at least that's the way I thought of it. And from the looks of it Sony is digging themselves deeper and deeper into a hole with decreasing sales and losing a sh** load of money, not to say they won't make no comeback at all, but they just put themselves in a bad situation. Microsoft knows what they're doing this time around, they didn't become one of if not the biggest company in the world with stupid business strategies, no offense. I think Xbox 360 actually has the best lineup this year, but I'm also loving PS3's I can't wait for Uncharted and Ratchet!

Halo 3 has over 4 million preorders... that means the game is going multiplatinum within the first hour of release.  Is more promoting really neccessary?

Well it's pretty much a given that Bungie doesn't show off any of Halo's gameplay storyline until it's released, they like to surprise people if you know what I mean...(ending to Halo 2 and getting to play as the Arbitor).

Well what about that one video you know where MC is on Earth and we see him hijack a vehicle for the first time and what not? That was a reasonable showing lol.

I agree with the TC's first comments. Also, by releasing it in November, they could sell even more because parents would buy it for their kids because it would be selling extremely well in one month, and many kids would want it for Christmas.

Consider this 'beta' as a multiplayer showing. Yes, it's incomplete, but anyone who has played in a TRUE 'beta' will tell you that this is closer to a demo than anything.

And it's not like they really need to market it too hard. People will just buy it because it's Halo, it's that simple. I don't know what the PS3 has coming in between now and September, but this seems like an attempt to steal potential fence sitters who are waiting for a killer ap on either system, most of which usually come in the November period.

Two great predecessors, being the most anticipated 360 title of all, and probably the biggest public beta for consoles ever, means everyone who's going to want it wants it, everyone who wants to buy the 360 specifically for Halo 3 will probably do so, and the competition will have something serious to deal with. I'm sure console wars and sales wars are some kind of issue, which might suggest holding things over til it's closer to Xmas, but I don't think that's their top priority. I'm sure like other developers out there, creating a great product they can be proud of and rewarding the faithful is important to Bungie.  This public beta is pretty good evidence of that.  In hindsight they were disappointed that they couldn't cram everything into Halo 2 and they also ran later than they wanted to.  After all that past experience, their decision to actually release Halo 3 earlier than originally projected is probably well-informed.

i guarantee, come august, they will announce that it is delayed till a couple more weeks. I'm expecting a legit release around Mid october to early november.. Only reason i believe they're saying a September release is so Microsoft can push sales for the summer. People will think they dont have enough time left making them buy the 360 now and buy games during the summer while every gamer is home for summer during summer vacation.

Agreed.  It's got a great feel and the new features are so well-integrated. It evolved in the right direction and Halo 3 feels like a natural progression of everything that has made the multiplayer so good in the first place.

Right, the beta has to be close to a demo, because they will not have much time to fix the bugs and what not between now and September.  Remember they have to make copies of the game and box them all up and then have them shipped every where....  Wow I wonder how many updates to the game will be made from all of this?

i not going to lie when it comes out its going to kill any fps out their and probably hold off some ps3 sells but what comes in to factor is a couple things those 4 million preorders are probably people that already have a 360. another one is dont for get theirs alot of people that would wait and get a ps3 when games like uncharted and warhawk and mgs4 and heavanly sword comes on ps3 and take in not playing halo 3. also if halo 3 comes out in september then what does the 360 have coming out in december and november. and then you cant  count out  are they rushing the game out to get a head start at holiday season cause i hope halo3 has a good single player good unlike halo2 cause if it only has a good online then what can we say happens. and dont call me a fanboy cause like i already said i have two 360 and a ps3 one of my 360 are broke and if this one breaks im throwing it at somebody.

Truth is, probably more and more copies of Halo 3! Even GOW sold strong for months and months--lots of big titles do.  To tell the truth, I'm not sure what else is coming out around Xmas for the 360, but there must be a few big ones.

i agree with everyone who is disagreeing with you. i think it is a good idea, its practically in october anyway. more time to sell before xmas, and it doesnt need advertising, halo has street cred. everyone who knows anything about halo tells their friends about it, thus creating a wildfire of FREE advertising. of course there will be advertising for it anyway.

Couple of thoughts:

-The beta IS their advertising.  People who can't play it are hearing about it from friends who can, those who can are (for the most part) enjoying themselves.  Ergo, no need for X07.

-It's HALO.  It doesn't really need advertising.  My dad can't tell the difference between a 360 and a Wii and HE knows what Halo is.

-By launching it in September, a few days after the last day of summer, they prevent preorderers like me from getting chilly waiting in line.  Actually, this is the point I like the most.

If they get it done in September, they'll release it. If they still need to work out some problems, they'll delay it. Halo 3 is too important to be released as an unfinished game.

damn that makes so much sense to me. So Im seeing as this... July - two world (if it sticks) August - bio shock Sept - Halo 3 Oct - GTA 4 Nov/Dec - lost oddyssey, too human, and mass effect would do a killing. Plus Bungie droppin h3 in sept by holiday time more 360's will be out there to help the sells of the other ms titles.

hey you can disagree all you want it happened once and it can happen again gta4 is going to sell both the ps3 and 360 you probably say halo is going to sell alot which it will. but just because a game has word of mouth dosent mean that you can get awhole bunch people of to by it. unlike gta wich sells becasue its a good and it's known to have a whole bunch of controversy and thats sells a whole lot of more copies then word of mouth. i mean evertime a gta game comes out a new station is talking about the most cotroversial game is about to come out news and controversy equals way more sells then beta word of mouth and pushing a release date up.

No, I want to play it ASAP and if Bungie says that they will have it done by then all the better. Halo 3 (and the Halo franchise in general) is huge and really I think that its everything else that is in danger of being overshadowed. Everyone who owns (or planning to own) a 360 knows about Halo 3, more ad time isn't going to help. Sony is already messed up, but anyway what better way to steal attention away from them than the release of one of (if not THE) most anticipated games ever. Bungie will wait closer to release before they show any SP footage and you should know they like to keep surprises.

they should wait until December (for christmas purchases)

but honestly, it probably doesn't make a difference, because all sales are through pre-orders anyways

If anything Microsoft will get the jump on sony people will spend more time on Halo3 and not want to play MGS4. Every 1 with a 360 will buy it so theres no problem there.

I really doubt Bungie had any say in having Halo 3 release in September.  I think it's pretty obvious that M$ just wants to counter the amount of good games that are releasing on the PS3 in September.

I think they are not, they should release it in mid November and take that extra month or so the polish it up even more, and by them releasing it in September instead of November it takes away that magical feeling of playing right before the holiday season and prepares you for the holidays. I think releasing it in sep will just take all the magical feeling of playing it, especially since it will still be hot outside instead being too cold to even think about going outside.

yep, plus in september my online fps time will be devoted to Unreal Tornament, Bungie should wait more than 3 weeks for that game to cool down

I would have rather wanted halo 3 in nov. I was looking forward to GTAIV in sept which would have given me plenty of time to play until halo 3. Defeats the purpose of having IV coming out at the same time as for ps3. Oh well. Looks like im going to have a very very busy sept.

[QUOTE="Danthegamingman"][QUOTE="lawlessx"]Im not talking about giving bungie more time to work on the game, but to promote it. since E3 was trashed, bungie didnt have the chance to give halo3 a great showing. sony would most likely steal the show at TGS by releasing info on PShome and MGS4.. which leaves microsoft with nothing. my point is..why not delay the game untill nov and show off the game at this years X7? ragincoley86

I believe MS is releasing Halo 3 is Sept because its ready and GTA4 comes out in Oct and its looking more and more likely Microsofts heavy hitter for Nov will be Mass Effect.

damn that makes so much sense to me.

Not to mention Blue Dragon in August. And Fable 2's supposed to be out by year's end. 360 FTW, dude.Â
