Last year, in September, I upgraded my Xbox 360 to an Elite (120gb HDD).

EB currently have the new slim console for $449, they'll do it for me for $399. They'll give me $180 trade in for my console with brings the cost of a new one to $220.

Currently they have an offer of a free copy of RDR when you trade in your console. A guy at work will pay me $70 for this if I get it.

This means I can trade my 1 year old 120gb X360 for a new X360 slim 250gb model and it will cost me $150.

Do you think that's worth it?

Note : All pricing is Australian buckaroos

Personally, I think that's an amazing deal for a new "slim" 360. I don't see any reason not to do it (the fingerprints thing is a pretty weak excuse).

He isn't in Canada or the states, he's in Australia. Different currency different prices. The console there starts at $449 but its $300 here.

I think the new slim is great. It feels so much nicer than the older models and is so modern and small compared to it. The best thing is you can play games without it sounding like a Jet is about to take off in your living room. I just got the slim and played with it and it was great and super quiet. I had tried out a arcade model jasper when Walmart had a special here in the states and I took it back as it just felt cheap and I couldn't stand the jet engine sound when gaming. My g/f was like what the hell is that sound when I turned it on. LOL.

Now if money is tight I would just keep your 360 especially if it isn't giving you any problems though.

I got the new system, and I had the same console set up you did before i traded in. The console is is a little smaller, and has a 250 gig HDD. I got this mainly to be able to take it anywhere in the house, and be able to connect to xbox live via wireless. If you have the money then I would definltly do it. If money is tight there is no reason too especially if everything works fine with your current console.

I've got the new 360S and love it. I traded in a launch 20GB Pro so to me it was more than justified.

In your case though if you have a newer Elite, I would just keep that. To me it's not worth $150 just to get an extra 130GB HDD space, and built in wireless. I mean if you have lots of money then go for it, but otherwise just keep what you have.

Looks pretty good. Is the X-Box slim the equivilent of the PS3 slim? If it is then it might be worth it as they might be less prone to breakdowns etc...

My only reasons for upgrading were:

  1. Quieter model. I sit a few metres from my Elite and it's sooooo noisy
  2. Larger HDD
  3. Less risk of RROD
  4. Cheap upgrade for a new console
  5. Caught up in the hype of a new machine

I've decided not to upgrade and will put the $150 in the "pot" for the 3DS whenever that comes out instead. As it's a new model with a brand new board and components I also thought it wise to wait until the second or third revision so the initial bugs can be ironed out.

In answer to the RDR questions above, I think $70 is pretty high fora game that will surely drop in price here soon (and can be ordered online for less). Still if someone's willing to pay me that much for it I'm not gonna complain. That aside I already have it on PS3 so I don't need a second copy :)

Thanks for your thoughts everyone

Personally I was considering upgrading as well for the $150 price point after my trade in but I have the original 20gb pro. If you've already got an elite, I would not advise going for the slim.

1.) If its quiter running your looking for just install the games to the hard drive and even the original xbox360 runs as silent as an assasin.

2.) There is already an extremely low probability your elite will RROD on you as the issue was all but entirly resolved by the time they released the elite, and please correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the elites were redesigned specifically not to RROD.

3.) Don't get caught up in the hype. Personally I have games saved to my hd, download arcade titles, and have a lot of dlc for the games i play, and i still have a few GB left on my 20gb HD. so i cant imagine why you would ever require a 250gb drive other than bragging rights. ( i was considering upgrading to a 60gb drive so i could install more then one game at a time to it but other then that if you've got that 120gb drive, you should be fine. Save ur golds man, its too hard to come by these days.

That's my opinion on it for ya.

Unless you want to built in Wireless N then don't do it. If you're paranoid about RRoD, get an Intercooler TS. If it's too loud, install your games to your HDD (120 GB does the trick).

For the record my X360 is noisy even with the games installed on the HDD. I generally install all the games I play. Maybe it's just because it sits beside a PS3 so I'm comparing it to that...
