i finished R6Vegas camp finally, after a couple month of just multiplay. ( I DELETED THE SPOILERS)...............yes i actually didnt skip over any of the story cut scene and watch it and actually pay attention....

do u guys still care about story in games? crackdown is out with essentially no story, but the gameplay is a blast!!! why do these developers still put story in the game? it's a waste of time when u cant skip over it (GRAW)

I do still care however for me story only matters in a game where it is the focus like crackdown the focus is on fun most rpg's NEED a storyline whereas shooters a notorious for have no or a weak plot.

Every now and then I like to hang out with "simple" people, but not really for long time, if you catch my drift...

It depends heavely on the game type.  You cant real put a story into a game like crackdown.  But it is a must in almost all other games.

Actually, I love a good story... And its one of the main factors I consider when buying a game. The fact of the matter is, a game is just really flat without a decent supporting story. At least to me... Probably why Unreal hasn't really caught onto to my point of view yet.

I would suggest Xenogears. That game has an amazing story. When you are playing it unless you are a scholar on jewish and christian mythology i would suggest being on wikipedia and looking up every single name that comes up as most are a biblical reference which actually gives you more insight into the character or location. Also Final Fantasy VII has a great plot but I appreciate it more for the characters which are in my opinion the best developed and most interesting of any game I have played. The Xenosaga series is also interesting but very confusing and quite a time commitment to beat all 3. FF X has an interesting story for its twists and I also appreciate the perspective they chose for it. Chornocross is another keeper. The characters are absolutely terrible and you will form not attachment to them and it is a rather slow game with little motivation to push forward in the first half of the game besides just reaching the next area but the last half more than makes up for the slow start as it is just crazy. MGS 1-3 are all good. I would sugest playing them in order. MGS 2 is kind of trippy but if you can get your head around the plot it is really really good. I think alot of people missed some of the finer and tighter points of MGS 2, Kojima did a phenomenal job with the story there. If you haven't played any of these game and want a good story give them a try. I am a story snob and these are my favorites.

shooters can get away with a weaker story - but it definitely makes the game better to have a cool story (Halo, FEAR, Riddick). Some can get away with no story (Doom 3, Far Cry) but I like the story driven ones better.

If games get made for multi-player only I'll stop playing... I want strong single player campaigns and thankfully we're still seeing them made (like Bioshock).

I love a good story, but it has to be presented in a good way so it dosn't become boring.

The best games are the ones with solid multi-player and single player. There are exceptions to this, though... Like Oblivion. It wouldn't work in multi-player unless the masterminds behind it figure out a way to make it work, like a two-player co-op or something, but the massive single-player experience make up for it. Can't really think of a multi-player game that had a craptastic story without offending a few people though...

I myself do care about the Story, though. If it doesn't have a decent story then it is half-assed in my opinion.

Any good IP has to have a fairly deep story to back it up, to sustain it, otherwise how would they sell merchandise, books, movies...
I only hope, we consumers push devs further in this department, not the other way arround. Games must improve in a mature way, not in a mindless one.
Want to shoot just because ? Play paintball.
A good plot is a must, fact.
