Just curious - and if you do use a powerstrip, has it given the 360 any problems? When my 360 arrives I was thinking about using my 22" Samsung instead of my SDTV but obviously I don't have that much power to go around where my PC sits, so I'll have to use a power strip. Will this give me any problems?

No it shouldn't give you any problems, but remember don't over heat your plugs for god's sake you'll start a fire.

I got my Elite and Samsung plugged into a two outlet power surge. But I've read in the manuals that you don't have to plug your 360 into one, also for the Samsung tv, both of them have their own internal power surge protector.

Mines plugged into a power strip along with my TV, phone charger, lol paper shreader and free view. No problems but Ive heard people not getting enough power to the 360 with these strips. If your worried just plug and play from the mains.

Use a little math to play it safe, most good power strips are rated for 15 amps, add up the stuff you are going to plug into it and have on at the same time. The 360 and a HDTV will put itclose to max.if your not sure have someone that does check it out. The guy with all the stuff plugged into one strip isjust asking for trouble.

There will not be any problems if the electric quality in your house is good.. Many houses have bad quality and when you use a powerstrip the 360 dont get enough power and can break so i would check if the quality is good then you canuse a powerstrip..

For the longest time I didn't. But then there was a power flicker and my 360 got the 3 red lights which scared me to death, but it was only a false alarm. I called MS and they said everything should be fine and it was, my 360 worked fine. So then I started using a powerstrip or whatever to prevent my 360 from getting damaged by one of those flickers so. I had that setup for a long time and then just recently my 360 died, but I don't believe it has anything to do w/ the powerstrip. Although I have heard that you should plug it directly into the wall, but I don't know why.

Yes - but I spent about $50 for the one I use. If you spend the money for a quality Surge Protector, you shouldn't have a problem - but if you're using a $10 cheapy, it could cause problems (though may not).

I'm no electrician or anything, but my guess is they say to plug the 360 directly into the wall so it gets the full amount of available voltage. Some lower quality powerstrips may reduce the voltage too much if there are a lot of things plugged into it and too low a voltage is just as bad as too much. If you really want to be safe, get yourself a quality battery backup with a voltage regulator from Monster or APC. They will suppress surges as well as supplement low voltages with their battery so your equipment always gets a clean, stable source of power.

it should be fine if you do but MS recommends you don't just to make sure your 360 gets enough power.

I have mine plugged into a powerstrip along with my TV, and a couple other things. It has never been a problem. You should go ahead and do it, don't worry it's fine.

I THOUGHT EVERYBODY KNEW THAT A POWERSTRIP CAUSES RED LIGHTS.
Don't pretend your Xbox is dead when really you just want a new one, thats why MS charges you after your warranty and FIXES your Xbox and doesn't give you a new one.

I use a surge protector that shares its power with my TV and a few other appliances. My 360 has never frozen, and I only get the passing-glance red lights that don't cause any trouble other than having to restart it after powering it up.

This is not an acurate statement. First most of the red lights are caused due to heating issues - some for power and there are a variety of other reasons too.

If you use a high quality surge protector or a battery backup - you won't have problems and you will get added protection. It's only when you're using a cheap power strip that you "may" experience problems.

My first system was plugged into a powerstrip and it broke. I've had this one into the wall and havent had any problems. Not saying this is why the 1st one broke but untill this one breaks I'll believe it.

I have a Monster Surge Protector for which I hook my Xbox 360 into as well as my HDTV & Surround Sound System. My console has gone out on me 2 times, but I still to this day don't believe that me hooking the console up to the Top Of The Line Monster Surge Protector could have increased the chances for my console to break. I believe if your console is going to break then it's faulty to begin with & no matter what you do sooner or later it will go out.

o yea also when i called xbox support they told me that having a 360 plugged into a powerstrip is not good to do because the power brick has a surge protector allready in to so when u plug the brick into the powerstrip it causes a confliction between them and eventually fries ur 360 and causes 3 red lightsas in my case.

I plug my 360 into a power strip and I've gone through 4 360's. Until now I've never thought there could be any correlation. I really doubt they have anything in common, but I might try plugging it into the wall from now on.
