I'm trying to decide between the 360 and the ps3. I'm leaning towards the 360 despite the RRoD issue, but I've heard that the 360 scratches the game disks. I wanted to know if anyone can tell me if this is true, cause if that's the case, I'll need to reconsider. Any responses regaurding this issue would be appreciated. Thank you.

No, not at all anymore. Only the first release ones did that.

Unless you move it around while it's on... but you won't do that. So yeah, you're good. RRoD is the only major disadvantage of the console... and it doesn't happen very often at all (once a year, at most). Good luck and I hope you enjoy your potential 360!

Don't worry. That was only on a select few. But the new models are pretty reliable. Anything manufactured after august of 2007. You shouldn't have any problems finding 1 this new. And the 360 just has the most awsome game lineup man. Much better selection of games than ps3. Not to mention Xbox Live. The best online experience on any console. So yah get the 360 you won't regret it. Oh and welcome to gaming on xbox 360 (In advance)

mine did, it made a ring along the ouside edge of mass effect now the game dosent work, and it wont only scratch it if you move it when you open the disc tray sometimes the disc is still spinning.

But those are the old models. All the new 360's are much more reliable and don't do this.

No, they don't, only if you do something stupid, like turn the system while a game is being played.

just some food for thought: i have taken my key to a blue ray disc, scratched the ever loving day ligts out of it, took a paper towl and wiped the scratches right off. it was amazing at first. but now i just get lazy with my BRD's. go with either though. 360 has some awesome exclusives. ps3 is just more reliable of a machine. and the online is free with ps3. i hope you like your system either way.

If you can wipe them off, then they weren't scratches...

No. I have a launch 360 with over 50 games, none of which have been scratched.

It ONLY scratches games if you flip the console from verticle to horizontal or vice versa while a game is being played.

But that's just common sense.

the only time I have ever had a scratched disk because of my 360 was because I flipped the console from its regular lying down position to the standing up position while the disc was still spinning inside. This resulted in a very ugly but symetrical ring around one of my games. The game still works though... And that is the only time I've ever had any issues with scratched game discs.

I would say yes, my november 2008 elite scratches all my disc a little bit, nowhere near enough to stop em playing but there definetly there, i dont move my 360 from its horizontal position at all so its something in the xbox.

okay so your trying to decide if you want 360 or ps3 ... well if your looking for a great online experiance for only 50 bucks a year and with games like Halo 3 mass effect too human fable 2 all the other exclusives get 360
then theres ps3 MGS4 god of war 3 (could be a wile) grand turismo hot shots golf? (i also found out you have to install your games on the ps3 before you can play them for the first time) lol but its your decision just make a carfull one.

oh and yeah my 0ld 360 scratched my Gears of war .. and it wasnt my fault of coarse .... it was an idiot that put my 360 on an unflat surface and it was wobbleing on the floor .. then while he was playing the game .. a messige poped up .. this disk is either dirty or damage ect .. there was a fog machine in the room and i was useing it and he said .... dude i think your fog machine smoke screwed with the game
then i just called him an idiot.
