I'm considering buying a 360, but have a question: Does the Core System with a 512 MB Memory Card have enough room for game data (just saving-no arcade). How many game saves can it hold?
Or is the 20 GB hard drive significantly better?
Yes, I'm getting the core.

It would be enough for just saves. But you really should just buy a premium the 512mb card is $50. So its only $50 more. And you get the 20gig HDD, Wireless controller, headset, and component cables.

If you intend to just have game saves with a few arcade games then yes but you will be pushing it. But if you intend on downloading new maps and other content then you will need the 20GB.

I didnt know the memory card was that big, I am pretty sure the card you can get is 48mb or around that. You will never run out of game space, but you will obviously get not much else on there, get the hard drive seperate, I have the core and the drive.

EDIT

I didnt know you could get 512, when I got the core at launch you could only get 64mb cards. Even still dude just get the hard drive seperate.

The 20gig hard drive is obviously better, but if your ok with just game saves & nothing else then there shouldnt be any issues.

wait awhile and save up to get the premium... you'll want to get a hard drive eventually trust me (to play demos, download arcade games, etc) so you might as well get the wireless controller, headset and component cables as well.... the memory cards are pointless.  Getting the 360 without the hard drive seriously gimps what makes the 360 so good.... online play, downloadable demos, and the fun arcade games, not to mention movie trailers, tv shows and hd movies.... You cant wait another month or two to save up the extra $50 and get that much more?

I say it depends on what you have...for example if you do not have your 360 connected to the internet then you really do not need a HD.

If that is the case the 512mg card will be a LOT of space...Oblivion is one of the larger saves and I seem to recal it takes about 1mg each (I'd have to double check that it's been a while).

The simple answer is yes, you could have over 500 saves............but you will regret not buying the pro. Only 50 bucks more don't buy the memory card and get the pro. You'll get a 20 gig HD, wireless controller, headset and HD cable. Even if you don't need the HD cables now, don't you think there would be a chance of getting a HDTV in the next 5 years? And you should seriously consider connecting the 360 to the net, if not you'll be missing out on alot of features, updates, maps, videos, demos, ect ect.

Yeah the core is still a waste. Even though it is tempting, just save a little while longer.

If literally all you do is save games and never download anything then yes, the memory card will do it for you.

don't buy the core. just don't. the memory card is 50 bucks so you might as well just save up another 50 and get the premium.
