I own both the 360 and the ps3 and even if they had the same game for both systems with the exact same quality of play in both I would choose the 360 version because of the gamescore. Most people with a 360 have rented, or borrowed, or even bought games that they knew they did not like just to pad their xbox gamerscore. Im not here to bash the ps3, it is a great system and will be great in due time but the xbox achievement/points system keeps you playing your games long afther you have completed the story modes.

Absolutly it has an impact of who plays what, and the replayablitie of games. My gamerscore makes me want to play my old games rather than just put them on the shelf when i get a new one. Their hard and it proves something to the people of the xbox live world as well as yourself. The achievement program xbox implemented was a stretch for microsoft and an risky one but it seemed to pay off in the end. i believe developers like them and hasn't everyone always wanted to be rewareded for beating a game

Well I for sure play what I do have A LOT more than I normally would, just for the achievements. But I don't realy buy or borrow games just to get the points.

I wouldn't of done the 5 day survivor in Dead Rising if it wasn't for the achievement (well, and the saber) but it's not because of the points, it's because you can say, and prove "I've done _____ in ______ and here's the acheivement to prove it" kinda makes you feel proud.

I'm still playing Superman Returns just for the points... What a horrible and boring game that is.

the ps3 is releasing its own version of achievements at some point, called accomplishments i think. but instead of a blatant rip off of the 360's gamerscore, the accomplishments you get will be viewed in ur online gaming pad on Home. i prefer the sound of the PS3's accomplishments as the 360's achievements are kinda pointless imo

Yep SONY are going to take it to another level ... your HOME will have big pictures of secret levels or trophies that you have unlocked from games in there and you (your avatar) will be able to chat to and show people around ... sounds like a good idea if: 1) They pull it off we all know about SONY's promises 2) They keep it for the gamers and not let business get ion the way with adverts everywhere or other blatent advertising gimmicks But 360 had it first .... and yep the acheivements system has meant I have played more and harder and in a way I must thank MS for giving me added value for money when playing now!

I'm in the same boat.I own both and if a game is released on both consoles (around the same time) then I will go for the Xbox 360 version just because of the achievement point factor.

Is that sad?

I can't easily say it doesn't have a major affect, simply because if a game sucks, yer not gonna want to play thru it. Adding extra suger to a turd doesn't change it much, but it does help one bear the smell a little longer I suppose :P

To hear others admit that when they play other games on different systems and realize they are getting no achievements kind of makes me feel better about having similar feelings... just a little...

Achievements are one of the reasons I go back to my old games. Seeing that little achievement pop-up makes me smile.

Gamerscore is pointless to me, then again I'm not a kid anymore and cannot play games like I used to. Though I would still own a 360 over a PS3 because I love the way everything is setup, and the controller is the best feeling IMO.

I rarely play games just for the gamerscore, but it's still fun. I love seeing the achievement pop up when I've completed a level or something. The only time I've played a game just for the gamerscore was for the Old Spice challenge (however, looking back, that was pointless, as I spent about 10 bucks renting games so that I could win a $5 XBLA game!).

I personally like the gamer score, but I do not let it limit me to quality. I will not play a game I do not like just for a score that means nothing in reality (with all the people boasting and playing easy games to get the points.) I play my PS3, Wii and 360 all for fun. If a game comes out on the PS3 and the 360 and there both equal in quality I will go for the one that will give me the best bang for my buck. If that means that the gamer score is the only added difference Ill go with the 360. But if a game is going to play better on another system I will go with that. What it boils down for me is the best quality game for my money, nothing influence my decision other than quality.

I only play games that are fun, I'm picky about that. I can't just throw money around, the only game I rented so far was Shadowrun because I was looking to get either that or Forza 2. I now own Forza 2. I'm not going to go and rent some lame kid game to get achievement points. When I see someone who has a load of sports games and kid games all at 1000 points, their big gamerscore is worthless.
YES it does give more replayability, in Oblivion I played through every guild all the way to the end, it was fun, and I got unlocked the achievements. In Gears of War I found all the cog tags, I beat the game on all difficulties and played through it on coop. In Rainbow Six Vegas I beat the game on realistic, I beat all the terrorist missions. Things like that, I would probably have never tried them, but because I'm rewarded with an achievement and points, I gave it a shot and it turned out to be fun and the game lasted longer.
