Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2 released close together; is that odd?

I just find it odd that Bioware, a company known for quality over quantity, is releasing 2 major titles so close together. I mean I guess it may just be coincidence on when they finished the games, but from a business standpoint, wouldn't it have been better to just keep polishing up Mass Effect 2 until the next holiday season instead of early 2010? I mean this would be like Nintendo releasing the next major Mario and Zelda game at about the same time.

You are actually correct. I was thinking about this a while back also and it just doesn't make sense to me as to why they would release two AAA titles in close proximity. I mean, I never recall them doing this before. They always had quite a big time gap between their titles.

Well though they are both made by Bioware it was to different teams working on each game. They just happened to get done with them about the same time. Also they are two completley different IPs, one is fantasy the other sci-fi. These create two different groups of consumers, even if those groups do overlap many (myself included) will be buying both.

They are actually releasing three games in a 6 month time frame (Dragon Age, ME 2, Old Republic). I hope having three teams making three games doesn't hurt the quality of the Xbox 360 games.

the decision when to release the games is not up to Bioware, EA Games being the publisher decides this. What i find strange is why EA is releasing Mass effect 2 after Christmas, seems like a poor choice to me, i mean its alright for peple pre-ordering the game but everyone elses bugets(well not everyone) will be drained

C: Come to think of it, getting 60$ in 2 months is no big deal and I truly doubt I will still be playing Dragon Age: Origins in 2 months. I can't wait to play ME 2 because Bioware really knows how to deliver on a great story and fantastic characters. So far, this gen Bioware is the only great WRPG developer on the Xbox 360.

^This. For me it's a great time between both games.
