People hate EA because they have a history of being greedy. The churning out of shoddy madden game after shoddy madden game isn't the only problem, but it's indicative of a corporate strategy they seem to have traditionally ascribed to. Mr. Riciotello (EA's CEO) seems to want to turn things around and promote a healthy and creative environment for their studios though, so we'll have to see how they fare in the future.The_Fell_One
Not to mention they have Peter Moore on with EA Sports, so the company is going in a great direction. As far as I'm concerned they're a great company now and if people are going to bash EA they should do the same for Activision. One thing that bothers me the most about EA bashers though are their complaints: One of the main ones being that all their sports games are the same year after year.
NHL 07 was an entirely new game from 06 and then NHL 08 came out and I can honestly say it's the best 'traditional' sports game I've played in a long time. Then they say it's meant more towards Madden, Sure they do only do small 'updates' every year but they definitely make the game a lot better. Madden 08 is a good sports game, and one thing to think about is that 2K Sports had a chance to 'dethrone' Madden with APF, yet having 3 years to develop the game they used animations from their NFL 2K5 game AND didn't even include a season or franchise mode, so in my mind it's a stepdown.
EA's good in my books now though since they put out Rock Band (my personal GOTY last year) then the supports they're putting towards Burnout Paradise, listening to gamer feedback with the Battlefield Bad Company Beta, and having a great co-op game with Army of Two. They're a great company now, maybe bad in the past but great now
1 Unethical buisness practices I.E. buying out the competition, and the fact that the failed attempt at Take-Two went hostile just goes too show their true colors.
2 Reputation for shovelware, EA churns out sports titles every year that of which are 99% identicle to the year before with a new roster for the cost of a brand new game.
3 A big producer of terrible cash-in games that rake in millions but are near unplayable.
4 EA refused to use Xbox Live servers for online intead opting to use their own so after a season of a sport is over EA can shut off the online forcing players to purchase the next year of the game. And playing any other EA game online just opens you up to spam EA advertisement E-Mails.
5 EA shut down a branch studio in Chicago that was in charge of the Fight Night series for no other reason than to cut costs putting dozens off game devs out of work.
6 This one is an opinion but all in all most EA games are just terrible or are not as good as older entries in their respective series. Most feel under budgeted or rushed. Odd coming from the most profitable producer of video games.
I like some EA games, Need For Speed and Burnout are kinda cool.
I guess they are pretty greedy though
Cuz its cool to hate EA. I personally dont hate them and i find that Madden argument kinda stupid since Madden 07 was better then 06..and then 08 was better then 07. People claim there the same game every year but what real advancements can you make in a sports game. The sports always played the same way. No one forces people to buy the games every year but they still do and complain about it. tbolt_88
Its not that the next sparse improvements are not good they usually are. From Madden 07 to 08 though the only major changes in gameplay were they added the player weapons abilities, that is not worth another $60. Maybe if EA would only charge $30 for sports titles because of the fact there is little margin for innovation in the franchises that would be acceptable but they treat everyone like fools and charge full price for something that is usually the framework of the game that was 2 or 3 years prior to it.

Yeah, but they lose value really fast, so you can wait until it's getting close to next year's release and pick it up for like $10. Or, if you really don't care if the teams are up-to-date and you just want to play a football game, you can pick one of the older versions for like $3.
