i've also worked in both places. a lot of the times, "settling things" has more to do with your particular store than the company as a whole. Both Future Shops i've worked in took things back no questions, but i've known others to be a pain. EB is the same. The difference with Future Shop/Best Buy product service plan is that it's easier to get a brand new console rather than a repair, at least in my experience. Also, it covers your controllers, giving you brand new ones. i do agree though. stores do vary. my biggest gripe has always been the pre-order thing though.

I havn't had a problem besides lack of games sometimes and the clerks are weird most of the time. The prices for new games are exactly the same everywhere else...I live in Canada. $59.99 for most games. I might get it at walmart for $58.88 but thats not even that much of a difference.

Cujo31

Completely agree. In Canada I find EB's new prices are generally the same. But I DESPISE EB Games. More often than not I've run into clerks there that are a-holes. I remember one that was actually in the same university computer science courses as me and ended up at EBGames. Talked to people like he was better then them. News Flash... You're not. HA

Anyways, my biggest BEEF with EBGames is thier used games. You know they buy the used game from someone for NEXT TO NOTHING and then turn around and put a price on it thats only like $5 less than a brand new one. WTF! Friggin 400% markup from what they paid the original owner for it.

[QUOTE="zaqqaz713"]where i live (Canada) Eb games is THE best place to gety games because it is NOT more expensive than any store it is the same price and used is like 10 -15 dollars less, also you can get warranties, trade in games to get a new one and get money for ur old games. i got 135 dollars for ff4 ds, ff tactics a2, and unreal tourny 3 360 and was able to buy fallout 3 and fable 2 (pre-order) after thatPaladin_King

I live in Canada as well.

1. You're correct with the prices. A few years ago, TC was right and they definitely were 10-15 bucks more expensive. These days though, everyone's pretty much the same price. The difference is that if you get it from Best Buy or Future Shop, you get 30 days price protection.

2. Their trade-in deals are absolutely Draconian. You get next to nothing cash-wise for them and their "trade in for a new game" deals are always ridiculous, usually demanding 3-4 for 1 game. Oh and they add stipulations on what those games can be as well (a particular platform or value). I have no idea what store you went to to get 135 dollars for those 3 games, but that is NOT the norm. That would normally net you 60 bucks, 70 bucks TOPS. I remember last year when Overlord came out, i tried to sell it to them literally SIX DAYS after release. I went to 3 EBS, all offered me around 20 bucks. one offered 25 bucks. At that rate, i just sold it to my friend for 25. At least someone i know would enjoy it.

3. Oh joy! You mean you got pre-orders? THAT'S GREAT! Pre-orders are the number 1 thing that makes EB a joke of a store. 9 times out of 10 you WILL NOT get a game within a week of release unless you put down a pre-order. Know what? I don't like to pre-order. I don't like to go to a store two times to make one purchase. I don't like to commit myself before I know as much as possible regarding a game. Yes, I know I can refund pre-orders, but it's a pain. I also don't enjoy increasingly sanctimonious attitude of the staff if you don't have a pre-order, nor do i enjoy their constant aggressive pushing for pre-orders...and further pushing for a special edition pre-order if you already have a pre-order.

4. For a specialty store, the staff is remarkably ill informed. They literally know nothing. For a big box store like Best Buy, I can let that slide, but for a specialty store? Come on.

5. Often times, EB Stores are cash saving operations for the company. They are often physically too small for the amount of traffic they get and they are often understaffed, made all the worse when you consider that the staff also have to do more engaged stuff like returns, trade-ins, pre-orders, etc, as well as answer queries or make sales. You will get no service in an EB (again unforgivable for a specialty store) and the lineups are usually just ridiculous. Considering how packed and noisy these stores get, I can only imagine the shop lifting.

6. Warrantees? Whoopee. Pretty much everyone offers warrantees. All the consoles come with warrantees, and if you want an extended warrantee, Future Shop/Best Buy's is far superior in terms of coverage and what it does for you. All EB offers that's unique is the insurance which you can put on a game (which they push on you as well). Game's don't need insurance unless you don't take care of your discs and if you do take care of them, bad burns, faulty discs are usually discoverable in the first 30 days anyway, when you're covered by any store's return policy.

So yeah, i'll stick to big box stores every time. They're just as impersonal, but I can get what I want, when I want it, I get price protection, I don't get crap pushed at me, and I can get what I want fast and easily with minimal hassle.

Couldn't have said it better myself!

I agree with U. I live in Canada as welll and I think that our laws are quite differents since every shop offer the same price 59.99$ for every new game. Weither you buy it at EB games, Toys R us or anywhere else, the price is always the same. The only difference is Wal-Mart at 58.88$ (but never have enough copies).

So for me, buying stuff at EB is a more than relevant choice.

ha, yes i totally forgot about that. it really is a strange policy when you consider that stores get much more off of used games than they do off of new ones...but for 5-10 bucks more, why should i NOT get a brand new game? With such a small price drop, there's almost no incentive for me to buy used. if i'm not ready to pay 60 bucks, chances are that i'm not ready to pay 50-55.

Ya their used games are over priced, I can find better deals on used games at flea markets, or other small gaming shops around my area.

whenever i buy a brand new game from eb, i find some scratches on the disc. vannacut

then its either not brand new or its not eb/gamestops fault....its the manufacturer. unless you bought a "new" game that isnt sealed..in that case its your fault.

Compared to Walmart which usually is the cheapest in my area, they are only a few cents more expensive. I wont go there to trade in games because microplay often gives me way better trade in value. And complain all you want people are still going to shop there.

EB Games and Gamestop always sell games like $5 cheaper here and the warranty is only $3 (which I only buy if I buy used), and even the used games are in good condition.

to people who complain about the whole "game in the slip" thing, if the games new enough, just ask them for it at the counter, they generally have 20 copies of the game behind there unopened. its when you walk up with one of the cases that they have on display that they give you one in the slip. i mean, think about target or any other place, they have their games in a glass cabinet. why? BECAUSE PEOPLE STEAL. EB knows that people will look for any possible way to scam them, and thats one of the preventative measures that they take.

Youre giving the store too much credit. You mean trade in a game that still is new worth $60- $65 and get $25, may $30 at most.

Obviously the selling of gaming equipment and software is not as sturctured as it is here in the U.S., Canada, and G.B. Here, new games of the same edition cost the same no matter where you go. So here, places like EB and Gamestop are not seen as rip offs. That's probably why there are mixed posts on here. Used is another story, but still, you will not be able to find a used game for cheaper than a new one unless there has been a pricing mistake. Sure, you might be able to find better deals to buy a used game and likewise to sell, but you also pay for convenience.

Obviously this is different in Australia, so maybe the thread title should be changed to be more specefic to the location.

Around here new games are the same in every store. The thing I hate about EB though is a used copy isnt that much cheaper than a new one. Like a used copy is usually ont 3 or 4 bucks cheaper than a new copy, wich is pretty damn lame. Not to mention when you go to trade a game in that is 60$ new, they buy it off you for like 25$, then sell it again at 55$

[QUOTE="Vandooka"]lol... only idiots shop at EB games over here... seriusly. right now if u go to an EB games store in australia, brisbane, GTA 4 and COD 4 will be AUD $110. Gametraders or JB HI FI, $80.Nocturnal15

That is the truth. It is truely sad had people continually go to GameStop/EB Games and rip themselves off.

That still doesn't mean anything... The bottom line is there going to open more stores and more consumers are going to go there. You can't stop there. No matter how many people hate them. There just going to grow.Childeater10

You are just reinforcing the fact that people are shopping stupid leaving their brains at home.

eb games / gamestop is a corrupt company :P....but i still shop thereOfficialBed

Why do that to yourself? Why would you help them rip yourself off? Unless Gamestop is the only gaming store around your area then I can see why. But if you need travel the extra mile to go to a decent outlet, by all means do so.

Gamestop is only successful because people are ignorant shoppers and buy into their crap =/. If people would take a second to analyze a few stores they will find much better deals elsewhere.

Uhh all new games are 60 bucks....So you all fail

I buy used games online, I mean c'mon guys. I buy the exact games half the price online that you can get from gamespot for double the price. Most of you young kids that think Gamespot is awesome haven't ever really needed to think economical in the first place, that or your rich. Live on your own or buy things for yourself and you'll understand the heavy price. I mean think about it, buy games online people, cheaper price for the exact same things, with your extra money you could buy more games. Geeze, and we wonder why this country is in the toilet economically.

GameStop= EB Games, and I go to GameStop because no matter where you go a 360 game is $60. Unless you count 11 cent savings in Wal-Mart.

I never buy used unless I must though.

So I don't really get what your trying to do here? make an uprising for Gamestop/EB being crappy outside of the US? Its not going to change anything. And its just going to get worse to you. There opening more shops over there under a european company.

It just amuses me when people come on here whining about Gamestop... It doesn't do anything. Good or bad store its not going to change a thing. There are far to many lazy a** people on this planet to sell things through websites or any of that. They just want to get rid of it quick. What company is going to do that? Gamestop is... What moronic people are going to come into the store and by used games and help the company... Oh wait ALOT OF PEOPLE.

This holiday season is going to be the biggest for Gamestop.

dood... get out of my thread. read through some of the other pages. in australia less and less ppl shop there... thats why they always try and do half price sales. that brings the ppl in... but once it finishes.. empty stores, or morons who buy things $50 more expensive rather than walking into the shop next to it.

I agree, however you put it too harshly, Gamestop is there and available for quick cash or credit even if you don't get very much & people like that. Ultimately its their choice & I'm not going to cut them down for making it, I will just suggest that they check out Estarland.com & see what they have to offer, atleast those in the US. They do have an Instant Credit system.

I don't put it to harshly because im a manager of a Gamestop. I shop online and at all the other stores. Of course I go to Gamestop because I get a discount.

As for you Van... just quit it already. All you want to hear is people going GAMESTOP sucks just so you can make a lousy response like SEE I TOLD YOU... THATS WHAT IM SAYING. It's just annoying.

I do agree with you Shawn... The thing is most consumers (US consumers) tend to find the fastest option on selling there old stuff.

Gametstop is a business. In order for them to be successful is if people buy there used games. And by how much money they make a year. It shows.

seriusly... it may be decent in america, buts its horrible everywhere else, and it annoys me watching fools spend likke $20-$50 more.

And a whole lot of money they make. Its too bad people can't just wait a few days as they could most likely double their takes on most items. Gamestop grows by ripping these type people off giving them $15 or $20 for a game they will sell for $40 to $55, I mean wow talk about a profit margin. Knowing this info however, I can without a doubt make the correct statement that Van may or may not want to see, GAMESTOP SUCKS!!! A store that lives by ripping poor folk off who need a quick buck makes me sick.

To whoever said EB was THE place to shop at in Canada... uh are you serious? Have you never heard of Futureshop, Bestbuy or Wal-Mart? Not only are the workers there ridculously uninformed about their products, but they're rude, and rip you off with the trade in values. Lets not forget they sell "new" games that have been opened as well. (As in they take the case off the shelf and pop in the game they took out from a drawer and put some tape over the opening) And incase you didn't know Futureshop takes used games in as well now.

has any1 else noticed how EB games sucks? their games are always atleast $10-$20 more expensive than stores like JB HI FI or Harvey Norman etc... Their second hand games sometimes are more expensive the brand new ones at JB HI FI... the only reason why people go to their shops is coz they have really good sales, but thats like once every 6 months...

Vandooka
IDK any of the other stores you mentioned, but I to stopped shopping at gamestop. I do all my business with Best Buy for points :P. Kinda nice walking into there store and purchasing a brand new title and taking 20 off the price tag for being a frequent shopper (I also only shop at BB because I end up buying a bunch of stuff there job related).

Vandooka, please turn down the tone of the confronting nature, and stating that users will get pointloss for posting isn't the right way to go around, nor is it your place to do so.

Thanks
