Fair warning: When I get to the Fable 3 part of this post I'll be discussing the ending without spoilertags. Games with Gold: Microsoft is giving away 13 360 games from June 11th through the end of the year. They announced Assassin's Creed 2 and Halo 3 as part of the program, and the first game, available from the 11th to the 30th of June, is Fable 3. You guys got any hopes or predictions? With Fable, Assassin's Creed and Halo confirmed as series' represented in in the program, I'm afraid it's going to devolve into a dog and pony show of all the biggest franchises of the generation and the biggest 360 exclusives. I'd like to see at least a couple of the games be either a standalone title or the only entry in the series exclusive to this generation.

As for Fable 3, That game cheated me out of my happy ending. I fulfilled all of my promises and just slapped it on the Treasury's tab. The only concession I made against the wishes of the people was building the whorehouse- but at the time, I was starting to be able to turn a profit on my investments and I was raising the funds to save my people. I was watching the countdown drop 2 and 3 months at a time, so I figured at four months it would give me a last month to prepare. One more day spent adventuring, maybe 3 hours play time and I would have been able to save every single person in the kingdom.

As floored as I was by the shift from adventuring to ruling and administering a kingdom, I then felt cheated out of the ending. It may be dramatic storytelling when the ending is scripted ahead of time, but in a story as mutable as this one had been, being robbed at the end like that was just lousy. I had every intention of continuing to pour my time into the postgame. Instead I'm wondering when(or if) I'll ever bother to go through the entire game again just to change the ending. What about you guys? Did you play the game before it showed up free on the marketplace? Have you played it recently or for the first time since the announcement? What did you think of the ending? Did it bushwhack you, too?

I've already played every single one of those games. I don't understand why they are giving away bunch of old titles that most people have already played. If you're going to give away games, why not make it a good selection of somewhat recent relases? Like Halo 3?! Are you freakin kidding me? 3 other Halo games have been released since Halo 3... MS should learn a thing or two from what Sony is doind with they PSplus subscriptions.

Yeah, I would have at least preferred a choice between 2 games, since I bought AC2 off of the marketplace years ago. Halo 3's a bummer, too, as I would much rather have had Halo Anniversary. I always thought Halo: CE was was the only one worth playing. And I've played every game from CE to Reach.

Since I've been on a budget for a few years, I haven't picked up or played as many games as I normally would, so I find this pretty great.  I've paid for Live for a number of years, so possibly getting free games for something I would be doing anyway?  I won't complain.

I saw the games with gold as a softening blow to all those who were upset over DRM and online check ins. On the plus side it's nice to have something for free however you pay for XBL so in fact it's not free.

No problem. My phone is going through a phase where the sumbol key refuses to function, so I can't work spoiler tags.

I've got four years tenure. I'd be buying XBL regardless, so yeah, it's free. If you just sign up for 6 months in order to get the games, then I can see that argument. I think it's less a Microsoft Ambassador program then a test to see if adding a free game or two will get more people to sign up for the service. I don't see them adding this to the 360 as a feature, more than likely if their numbers jump significantly over the next 6 months, I could see this being added to the XB1.

Is this going to be like PS+, where I have to be subscribed in order to play my "free" games, or can I just buy 3 months of gold, download the games I want, and just not renew?

I've been searching on google for an answer for this but haven't found one. If anybody knows the fine print, could you tell me? :)

Be advised: they likely also suffer from the same problem other arcade and Games on Demand games have- namely that you still have to be connected to xbox live in order to play them. A silver, unpaid account, but still gotta be connected.

Wait a minute, there are SP arcade games that you have to be connected to the internet to play? Lol, I didn't even know that. Shows you how important this 24 check in thing is that everyone is complaining about.

I don't remember what game it was I was trying to play, but I brought my 360 to my dad's house once and he didn't have a router and I couldn't hijack his internet, but I remember finding out the hard way that all my arcade games reverted to trial versions without an XBL connection.

Thanks for the heads up. I do lose my signal every once in a while but the majority of the time I'm connected.

Damn, I didn't know about certain games, arcade and Games on Demand, needed a player to be connected.

When I got my new Xbox S last year, I had to do a license transfer and re-download them, in order to play them offline on the new Xbox.

The games, that wouldn't work offline and only offered trials, games you bought and downloaded onto an older 360 you had?

If they were, you're gonna have to what I did in order to play the full game offline. License transfer and than re-download (I actually had to delete the game and re-download it from my purchase history).

One more day spent adventuring, maybe 3 hours play time and I would have been able to save every single person in the kingdom.El_Zo1212o

I didn't even raise funds. The game was already feeling like a chore, and me having to beat every game (atleast the story) that I own, I had to grind through it. I told myself, "F--- it, let see what happens if I don't raise funds". My debt was huge at the end but I did fulfill all my promises, which seemed useless. After I beat the story I didn't want to bring the treasury back to full glory, so I was done.

The game is fun, at the begining, but it seems to drag and just fizzle at the end. But for free, you can't complain!

*on a side note, I don't know if you have played Kingdoms of Amalur:Reckoning, but if you haven't, it's a blast to play. To me, it seems to be the game Fable 2 & 3 should have been*

Huh. that might just be the case, since the Slim hadn't been announced when it happened to me.

Man, I was so invested in that whole game. From the opening moment when Logan was all, like, "I'M GONNA BE A HUGE D-BAG! ARRRRGH!!" and I had to kill the girl, I swore I was gonna kill him but good. Even after the whole Ancient Evil plot was revealed and Logan explained himself, I still couldn't bring myself to spare him. I was actually surprised at how competent the game was in so many areas- the combat could've used some tweaking, but for a pre-Arkham melee action game, it was pretty good; the story was intriguing just for it's ability to take someone so apparently evil and then try and turn you into him; and the artstyle was an interesting choice just because it was so cartoony, only then to address such mature themes. On the whole, I would rate the whole experience a 7.5-8(if 1 means "sucks" instead of "broken"). It would have languished at a 6 except for the dramatic shift from adventuring to management, and would have rested proudly at a firm 8 if not for the sneak attack ending.

I dont want Fable3 and I already have Halo3.  If M$ included a GOOD game with a year subscription to Xboxlive Gold (like a NEW game or a good game that isnt 2+years old) then I'd consider it.  Lately I've just had a non-gold account and I dont play games online.  The only deal they've offered me is 3 months for $15, and that's a rip!

5 bucks a month is the yearly rate. I'd go for it. Hell, I'd extend my membership by 3 months if they offered it to me. Fable 3 is actually a remarkable game- I kinda regret not playing it sooner- but if you miss it, it's gone. I'd go for it personally.

I pay for 3 months at a time, so while I am paying $20 for the Xbox Live, Im getting 2 games that would amount to atleast $20 for free.

I thought it was pretty boring, poor combat (although the instant kill animations can be fun), bland and small world, short, but better written and funnier than the past games from what I remember.

What did you think of the ending? Did it bushwhack you, too?

I don't know what your talking about, can you explain how you were cheated out of a happy ending?

so thats $60 per year ? The 12month gold membership time card is $39 here. Granted PS+ is $53 dollars but they got more games. Anybody else feel like their being ripped off ?. . . . . Nobody ? . . . . . Okay carry on.

I explained it point by point in the OP. As far as the combat, I wouldn't call it poor, but it would have greatly benefitted it to have had a dedicated block button. It didn't use the bumper for anything combat related.

You still earn the money, but as soon as Hobson declares it's your one year anniversary as king, you can no longer access the book to transfer to the treasury or the map to buy and sell property. When the gateway appears to the Road to Rule for your judgement, you're basically locked in.
