Fable is better. If you like replaying games, get Fable. It will change every time. If you wouldnt, get Oblivion. Plus Oblivion is a lot cheaper.
I'll have to say Oblivion.
While I was expecting an RPG from Fable II, when I started I felt incredibly...closed in. What little exploration therewas in the game is killed by the annoying loading times and all the way through I constantly felt like I had to stick to a path despite it being labled an RPG.
Oblivion on the other hand is huge. A massive world to explore and it feels like it truly is your choice to go where and when you want.
Sorry if people disagree with my Fable II opinions, just my thoughts on it:P

pretty much the same, fable is funnier though. anyway, this two are greati have to say Oblivion. if you love the final fantasy series and japanese inspired RPG's you won't appreciate Fable 2 that much. the story is short and not that deep than other RPG's around. though it's fun to play it's more of an action game rather than an RPG which make it ideal for any kind of gamer...Oblivion on the other hand is great since it's running on an FPS platform (yes you can switch to 3rd person view but not as exciting)...the story is great plus the world is huge...there are a ton of missions, different characters, weapons and armor makes it really hard to understand the first time you play it (that's why you'll play it again after you finish it)...if you love Fallout 3 it's because it's more like Oblivion, only a different time and age...Oblivion reminds me of the Gothic series...i hope they port Gothic into current gen consoles...i can't wait for the next installment of the Elder Scrolls series...:D
