i was just wondering when this chip was coming out for the 360 and how much better is it than the old one, because i have heard alot about it. im going to be getting a 360 in a while and i was wondering if i should wait for this chip to come out before i buy one. also i was just wondering how much a MS warranty costs for a 360?

Supposedly some or all Halo 3 Edition 360s have the 65nm chip.

Is it better? No. Why would it be?

It does the same job as the last chip. Its only slightly smaller.

Microsoft already gives you a warranty. Their extended warranties are useless. Microsoft's turnaround time is a Month+

So if you want to be without an Xbox for a month plus, then depend on Microsoft. Otherwise get a store warranty. ;)

Its actually a 1 year warranty on everything and a 3 years warranty on RROD!

The rumors I heard were that the 65 nm chip was indeed supposed to run cooler than the previous chip that was in the 360. Of course, this same set of rumors maintained the idea that overheating was one of the main reasons for the failure of so many of these sexy, off-white consoles that we all know and love. I also heard the rumor that some or all of the Halo 3 360s had the newer chip in them, didn't hear whether or not any other models did yet or when they would.

I couldn't help but get the halo 3 360, and just to be safe I bought the "NYKO intercooler EX" to help keep the console cool and (at least in my mind) help prolongits life. I don't know how this will pan out in the long term, but for the past two months things have worked flawlessly. Also, after playing Gears of War single player for over an hour, my current setup keeps my console surprisingly cool. It gets no warmer than the laptop on which I'm typing this entry. I don't know if this will help you, but I don't think you could go wrong with the halo3 or elite consoles.

Anyone out there had a bad experience yet with either of these models?

The RROD is cause because of an excess of heat on the GPU. With the 65nm cpu, its not going to solve the problem, but the overall temperature produced by the console will be lower, so it will help.

The store warranty at best buy is like $70, the microsoft extended warranty is $50. The chip will just make the 360 run a little cooler. Nothing else.

The falcon chips are overrated IMO, shouldn't be a major difference...

i got mine at target, 3 year warranty for 30 bucks :) and it comes with a 1 year warranty already by itself. i dont know about the new falcon chip but just dont play for more than 3 hours at a time, give it space around it and dont buy the intercoolers, i hear they actually hurt the system.

Hey man I can tell you right now from experience that the new chipset DOES make a difference..... I had the old system and it got WAY hotter than the new falcon one .... the new one I got was the forza and ulitmate spider man package and it has the falcon .... I"m telling you right now it makes a HUGE difference on how hot the system runs.... my old system got so hot even the fan I bought wouldn't keep it cool enough.... this new one is not nearly as loud and it runs 10 times cooler with no fan .... so to say it makes no difference is very wrong my friend.... time will tell if the red light of death has been fixed by this new falcon ... my gut says by how cool it's running it's most likely been fixed .... lets hope....
