[QUOTE="MaddenBowler10"]Thanks guys, I think I'll hold off for the Fallout 3 release and I'll probably end up getting that, along with Dead Space tomorrow I think. I like open world games and such but I do have a few FPS's already that occupy my time (cod4 and UT3)nygiants1080

Imo for FPS'. If you played one, you've played them all. I only buy FPS' if they have a good story and or great multiplayer. Far Cry to me, has neither.

@nygiants1080

I am a big fan of FPS and I have preordered the game. To be honest I am still kinda excited about the game even there are some negative things have been posted here.... since you have played the game, I hope you don't mind if I ask some questions.

You mentioned the world is restricted, I didn't really get what you mean, so is it like GTA IV, where if you enter the region that's not unlocked the police starts to chase you, and in this case the villagers will chase you? But are they enemies? or just innocent villagers that gone upset because of your intrusion? and would killing them affect you status or the story whatsoever? You also mentioned the villagers are hard to kill, so are all the enemies hard to kill? or just they are slightly tougher?

Frankly, I would love a FPS with a reasonably good and engaging story but you said there's none, so is the story really that bad? Also, how's the mission layout, objectives and gunplay? Are they fun at all? esp. the Gunplay~~lol. Sorry about the questions.....Actually I really love the concept of the game, I played FC1 and I missed the rest including crysis.... with all the previews, video demos and trailer, I got so excited about FC2.. and I got tons of questions don't know where to start....

P.S. I apologise to other people who's reading the posts if my questions include any spoilers

The story in this is really bland. Your sent to Africa to hunt down the Jackel. Thats it. He ends up getting away and you work for 2 main factions. The APR and UFFL. They give you the same type of missions... Go here, kill him... or destroy that. To be honest its not that bad... the bad part is traveling there. The missions always seem to be on the other end of the map and it takes way to much time to get there. As for villagers, they don't exist really in this game. Once your set out to this so called "open world" everyone you meet outside in Africa is going to try and kill you no matter what. If your walking by or driving there going to shoot you.

In the first area in Act 1 it doesn't seem that open. It works like this. You go down a linear pathway that goes into an open area. Rinse and repeat. It doesn't help when you have to take Malaria pills every so often. Then you find out you ran out of pills so you have to go back to do some crappy mission to get more. It gets really annoying.

Firstly, thank you for replying so quick ^^ and answering my questions. So sounds like the story is pretty linear and missions are basically killing and destorying which sounds alright to me, coz when it comes to FPS sometime people complain about repetitive missions and objectives which I don't really agree...coz i mean you are holding a gun and tons of bullets and explosives whatelse would you do except killing and blowing up things.... "Once your set out to this so called 'open world'" so there is a open world but restricted areas? there is no invisible glasses or fields that prevent you from entering other regions right? coz in trailers they said something like you can approach your mission however you want.. so I guess you can also get to the place where you do mission however you want... I assume they kept their promises and I don't mind people shooting at me and I have to fight back, coz this is really what I want, to kill people~~lol. The malaria sounds trouble though....are the pills easy to get? Do you have to buy them or are they like some sort of rewards when you finish your mission? And so what if you run out of pills?.....

When you reach the outer areas of the map it looks like a desert. When you walk out there your vision starts to get blurry and you will pass out for a couple of hours. As for the pills there easy to get just really annoying. Because it seems like you run out of pills are horrible times in the game. Like in the middle of a mission or when your almost dead.

You do missions to get passports to get people out of Africa and in exchange the guy gives you the pills. Its about 2 pills every mission.

I don't mean to sound like I hate the game. It is fun. And there are elements that are really cool about the game. I really like the health system. Its cool to watch your guy pry out a bullet in his arm with his mouth or pulling out shrapnel in his leg. There are cool things like that. And the fire in the game is awesome. Its really cool to watch the fire spread on the trees and brush around the area. I threw a molotov at a wooden building and it ended up engulfing 4 other buildings near it. It was awesome.

Wow~ Thanks again~ now I think I am quite satisfied~ And don't worry, I am still excited about it and even there are negative opinions, the game still sounds awesome to me. Even the pills seems kinda annoying but I really don't mind there are some flaws or downsides in a game... give them space to improve~

Ive been skeptical about buying this game for a long time, this isnt helping. The previews and reviews I have read have had nothing but good news. What I really want to know is how is the gunplay? Are the fights fun and exciting? I like the idea of 10 enemies inside a couple huts and you having the ability to come from any direction around the huts, snipe from a nearby ledge, run in with an AK and start blowing things up or even go silent with an MP5. Id like to know if all of that works nearly as good as it sounds.

From what i've played, its really hard to sneak around. It seems that the AI sees me, when I don't even see them.

Hrm, Maybe I made the smart move after all....

I had to decide what games to get and what games to wait on. Fallout 3, Gears 2, Left 4 Dead, Dead Space, Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts are the ones I settled for.

I have been spot on with Dead Space so far. So I'm hoping to go 5 for 5

Id like to know if all of that works nearly as good as it sounds.Maraos

It can work. I have noticed going in guns blazing does get you killed pretty quick. Going with the MP5 and stealthy is the way I go. You can also scout out certain area's ahead of time with binocs. It will then show you where all the MG placements and explosives are.

However, the mercs you fight in the game aren't really wearing any armor to protect them. But it does take a crap ton of bullets to take them down. At point blank with a shotgun it takes 2 blast's to kill them (most of the time). A lot of the time they won't die either. and will be laying on the ground with there pistols out trying to shoot you. If there is a buddy of there's near by and your nowhere in sight the guy will pick his friend up and drag him to a safe spot to heal him. Which is really cool.

The fights can be really fun. Lots of explosions and fire things like that. My favorite thing to do in SP and MP is shoot the ammo crates when there near them. Watch the firework show and them dying heh.

Also with the targetting. Its weird at first. When you hold down left trigger to aim at a guy it auto targets them for you.

From what i've played, its really hard to sneak around. It seems that the AI sees me, when I don't even see them.

it is hard to sneak around. Thats because you need to buy the camo suit at the weapons shop. Then you can sneak around fairly well.

Any chance you played battlefield bad company? I really hate it when it takes 30 bullets in a guys chest to kill him and that game certainly had alot of that which was why it was a rent for me. Is it really that bad? And that targetting system sounds like it does the work for you = /. Any chance you got a crack at the map editor? Is it all its hyped to be?

I haven't messed around with the editor yet. I've heard its really good. I'm currently borrowing my bosses copy of the game. So i'm trying to beat it.

I have played bad company. And its not as bad as that. You can get headshots, its just hard to do with certain guns. It doesn't take a whole clip to kill someone. I believe it just depends on the gun your using.

Huh? No I didn't haha. I got it early from Ubisoft at work (GameStop). They sent us two advance copies. The whole purpose is for you to play it, try it out and tell customers about your experience.

If you got it early stop b*tching and play it. No need to try and piss off the people that are still waiting for the game. Its got pretty high reviews so far, and it looks pretty amazing IMO. Glad i preordered and paid it off! Cant wait to play some MP

My opinion is just rent it because with all the great games coming out, it'd be a shame to buy one you disliked.

Dead Space (a good rental), Banjo (a possible rental as well), and Gears 2 looks more of the same IMO.

I settled for Fable and Far Cry, and possibly Fallout 3. Going to possibly rent the others

Good choices!

I bought Dead Space because im big into horror survival games and of the awesome story (it really is immersing).

Banjo just brings me back to my N64 glory days :P and its only going to be 40 bucks :)

The whole point of this thread isn't for me to make people NOT get Far Cry 2. I'm just letting my opinion known and letting people known a little more about MY exeperience of the game.

so far my biggest question is/was "how many shots does it take to kill some one, MP or Campaign". because in FCI and FC IP. it took too many. so has this changed, and/or do you think it will be changed?

I doesn't sound bad at all to me~ I am still very looking forward to the release!! There's gunplay, there's fire, there's explosions!~ and those are what I want~ I think the auto-targeting is like COD4?

It does take a good amount of bullets to kill a guy. Similar to FC1.

I have the same problem when I play FC1....so far I think COD4 has the most realistic "hit-damage system" (I don't know how to name the system you mention....but I know what you mean..)

Well....fair enough, coz they are most likely to use the same system in FC series. This won't ruin the game for me~

No, not at all. For me, I am actually glad that you and childeater put up all the posts about your experience and view on the game also answersing my questions. All these let me know more what I am getting and honestly I am still looking forward to it, maybe even more excited after I read your thread~ lol. I don't mind games got some flaws really, IMO every game is not perfect which give them some room to improve~~and I think the downsides you guys mentioned, to me they are quite minor stuffs~ so....yeah~ can't wait to play it~lol

Also I preordered Fable II, Fallout3, GoW2 and CoD: Wa..... big time for gamers......I wish I have 48hours a day..... and only need to sleep 1-2 hours....

Yeah I know what you mean dude. When I first started playing Gears 1 Multiplayer I thought it was horrible then I gave it another shot and I really like it now to the point that I'm addicted to it and even cancelled my Pre- Order for Fable 2 to get Gears 2. So I'm just saying give it another try maybe you will like it.

Just be sure before you start judging [ people have gotten their games pretty fast by stores who broke the street dates ] so think before you talk like that , second thing is they all have said they have the full retail copy and not a pirated version [ if you have even botherd to read this thread ] ...as for me , i got a friend who has a jack sparrowed 360 so that explains why im playing every game before release date:P ...i just plug my HDD on his console and thats that , easy as pie.

I have a legit copy. I don't know how many times I have to say this. A lot of people have legit copies of the game already. Like I said, Ubisoft sent my GameStop that I work at two advance copies of the game to take home and play.

thanks for the impressions/opinions. however, most of the complaints people have about the game i easily overlook (especially travel and amount of bullets enemies take to die.

Im still getting the game but i like to see what others opinions are...if the only complaints they have are ones i overlook and enjoy, then that helps my decision.

Most of you guys sound like babies. The guy came on here to give his review of the game/opinion and all he gets is bashed. "If you don't like it don't play it" you guys are crap! I like to see the personal reviews over the gamespot/ign/metacritic reviews. Thanks all who contributed to the thread with insight and for those who did not whine like babies because there all so hyped game is getting bad reviews from players who have played it. I hope this does not stop others from submitting their thoughts on other games because of a few crybabies.

meh i'll get this game later then. i dont feel like putting a clip into a guy and barley killing em atm. but as you say "save often" i did the same thing in many games that allow you to save when ever you want. oblivion, bio shock etc. it is a killer when you do die tho and you havent saved in the past hr. or so.

What are your thoughts on the map editor?

This feature has wieghed heavily in my decision to (probably) get this game.

At the moment I'm really torn between Fable 2 and Farcry 2.
