This kind of thing is happening shockingly often...if you remember the case last time when a father shot his son for refusing to look at his 360. Unbelievable.

Yikes, I live In Philadelphia so it's kinda' crazy knowing that stuff happens close by. Yeah, He's definitely mental...I can't imagine who would pummel a little girl anyway. ANother stressed out person with nothing to do in life, so takes their anger out on anyone. It's actual news, and I saw it in my local news section. Quite lunatic! 17months ! A baby shouldn't be playing around the chords anyway. There has to be more to this story than what is said.
wow...may he rot in hellyentar480
47 years isnt enough! they sent people to jail for less than this and 2x the sentence. this guy is just plain evil. i mean it's a baby for goodness sake, wtf was he thinking? wow when people in prison hear about this he'll wish he was in hell
This is why I hate the welfare system here in the US... we get lazy bums like this that are to lazy to work and have kids just to get more welfare each month... everyone on welfare can get a job... they just refuse to... if you are disabled it is not welfare, but disability benifits from your social security... the bums on welfare just get money from the government because they had 6 kids before they were 15 years old... it is bums like this that are destroying my country... not a war or the president... these bums...Squeets
What a bad parent, but you can not blame welfare on this. Sure there are some that "abuse" the system, but when you live in an impoverished area in which jobs are scarce AND you live in an area that has been neglected over the years you have no options. I'm not condoning what this guy did, but to say that everyone on welfare just chooses not to get a job is asinine. The fact of the matter is that a lot of people on welfare live in areas where they have no chance to succeed whether it be lack of jobs, lack of a stable education, etc. The president's polcy of tax-breaks don't help these guys either b/c they don't get a lot of money back from rebates; the people that get the big $$$$ are the ones that need it least. The president hopes that these people re-invest, but they're saving money instead. The unemployment rate is about 5% and you argue that all of these guys are bums? please
Also, to the guy on page one (i forgot his name) who said that keeping a guy alive in prison is wasting his tax dollars --
do some research! It costs LESS to give a guy a life sentence than to give him the death penalty, this is one of the basic arguments in opposition to the DP.
The impact of this tragedy is more anti-gaming laws and pandering to parents from our favorite congressmen, :(

How can you teach someone not to kill if you do it yourself?

What do you mean this kind of thing is happening shockingly often? I haven't been hearing about this stuff and this happened back in 06. Plus, I read another article where they were talking about how there were 38 murders that month alone in Philly and 406 that year. Yes it is horrible that this happened because of a stupid piece of electronic equipment but saying it happens "shockingly often" is quite misleading. I hope that guy gets what's coming to him but there were plenty of other people murdered in that city and yet this is the one that the media focuses on because it involves video games which "everyone knows cause people to be more violent, etc, etc."

Video games need a screening process similar to that of firearms because of incredibly disturbed individuals like this.DonMega187
"Excuse me sir, there is a ten day waiting period for this copy of Call of Duty 4, you can come pick it up in February."

I live in the UK. If he done this here he would've probably been sentenced to 10 years and been OUT in 5 with good behaviour. He would've probably got bail too until his sentence was passed. The justice system in my country is an absolute joke.
just another excuse for the government to pummel us with laws. they want this stuff to happenmohfrontlineThe sad thing is that this kind of stuff puts gaming in a negative light, and people like Fox News and politicians will eat this up with it being an election year because everything is fair game when elections are concerned. But what I dont understand is that we as human beings have the ability to reason, and know right from wrong. But when the media gets the story, its presented in a manner that makes it seem as though its all because of video games which isnt fair. Ive never seen an Xbox 360 controller pick up a gun and shoot anyone, and Ive never seen an Xbox 360 controller jump off the counter and beat a defenseless child to death. People do these things because they made the choice to do it, so I dont understand how you can place blame on an inanimate object. But I think that sentence is way too light especially when that is the time of life when you should be nurturing a child, not trying to hurt them for making a mistake. Im not against spankings by any means because I got plenty when I was a child, but breaking a baby's arm, and beating it to death? But I just think its a shame that gaming gets the bad reputation because the negligence and immoral choices of a few.

Incredibly dumb thing to say, and they do have a screening process, but since he is of age he is allowed to buy them, and movies can be just as affective if they are in the hands of crazy people. A screening process like that doesn't even make sense anyway because its not like he used his 360 to kill someon he just did it because he snapped.
