Female Gamers?

So recently at my local gamestop the clerk at the counter claimed she was a huge Gears of War fan, and that she played all the time. The conversation went like this.

Clerk: "Oh you're buying Gears of War? 'Bout time. That's an awesome game, you'll totally love it."
Me: "You play Gears?"
Clerk: "Yup! Love it. I play it all the time."
Me: "Interesting. I've been on Halo for a while now, and I just never hear of any female gamers on that game. Either they never talk, or they're just shy, or something, but there doesn't seem to be any ladies on Halo 3..."
Female customer that just walked in: "I play Halo 3 every night. I talk plenty!"
Me: "Really?"

At this point I was really curious. In the space of less than 2 minutes I had met 2 gamer chicks, and yet in the space of a month I had yet to meet a single one on Halo 3. In the space of 2 years, the number of female gamers I had met on Halo 2 could be counted on a single hand. So what's up? Was I just a statistical outlier? Did I just happen to not meet any gamer chicks by sheer coincidence? Pretty big coincidence if they're as prevalent as the two gamer chicks in GameStop would have me believe. (The clerk even said she was the leader of an all female GoW clan. It was the first I ever heard of such a thing!)

Do females actually play these kinds of games? If so where are you? I've been on Gears of War for a while now and still haven't met any other females besides that clerk. Are you in hiding? Just shy? Don't like talking? What's the deal? I guess it could be explained by saying that unlike guys, females stick together more, i.e. gamer chicks usually only hang out with other gamer chicks and don't like to go into battle against guys. Is that true?

Although I really can't blame you ladies for not wanting to play with us guys. I've gotten called every name that the English language has, even some that don't even apply to me like the N-word (I'm Chinese, not even part-black). If it's that bad for me I can only imagine what happens to girls when they go online. Or especially when that girl beats a guy in a game.

lol ive got 2 on my friends list and they seriously kick my arse at rainbow six vegas, one shot me directly in the nuts she got a head shot lol

but some of them can be sexist i joined a rainbow game and there was 2 gamerchix in there and they kicked me after i killed one of them

See I would tell you more about girl gaming but then the organization may find out.:P But even kind of topics like this are a misconception and only furthers a stereotype which is kind of arrogant in a way. I mean yes females do play games I would say almost as much as males. Though on the xbox I would say still not as many females as to males on this platform but still many play.

But I mean we are no different then male gamers or anything type of gamers we just enjoy to sit down and play fun games as well. So making a topic about a female gamer could be insulting as your only furthering a stereotype in the same way you would not ask about,"how many black gamers" as it does not matter your skin color when you game so why does it matter your sex. I think we are all just gamers and the let gender come second.

I know a lot of female gamers all the way back to the first Socom. We had so many in our clan we lamost had a females version of our clan, but we were a few short. I think there are a lot of female gamers on but when they talk most boys and guys always act like an jerk and say stupid crap to them so a lot of them I know don't really talk much. There out there.

But yeah, alot of the time some people are VERY rude to females on some games online, but its funny when they end up pwning them!

well i use to play Halo 2 with this chick all the time we always made like a party and play 4 vs 4 etc, the thing is when we were against each other i'd always beat her and she never got angry with me or anything in fact she use to say things like nice shot, wow, then when we were teammates nobody could stop us, best team ever lol

but on the 360 i've played with females almost in every big game, since Gears, Rainbow Six and Halo2 /3 and most of the time they're very good players.
