The head of Mistwalker is the "creator of Final Fantasy". Ironically he split when Squaresoft merged with Enix to from Square-Enix. And thats when they lost the magic, IMO. SE is still good, but not as good as Squaresoft I don't think there's any denying.

Obviously Mistwalker is not nearly as big as Square-Enix. You can't help but wonder how epic his games would be if he had the recources (money and people) with Mistwalker, that he would have if he were with Enix. But now theres too places we could get FF style RPGs from. Win IMO

Anyway on topic the game is very old school, very good.

Lost Odyssey is the perfect game for those looking back longingly at FFs 7 and 8.

Ahahah, sloooow down there. Lost Odissey is a quite great game, but saying it's "leagues better" than FFX is an absolute overstatement, that, i'm afraid, comes from a rather fanboyish attitude. Both are great games and appeal to slightly different targets.

If one likes stories that put an heavy focus on romance he'll probably like FFX more, otherwise Lost Odissey might appeal to him better.

First of all, it's spelled 'Lost Odyssey', second; FFX sucked bigtime compared to VII, VIII and IX.

I thought FFIX was the best Final Fantasy.

If your a FF fan, which you are, you should definitely get Lost Odyssey. Out of all the FF, it reminds me of FFX. Skill linking is pretty sweet, and equipping accessories to learn skills is like FFIX. The ring system is added a bonus, and is something new.

And for people saying that Lost Odyssey is better then FFX, that's your opinion, I think the opposite. And with a creator of FF working on Lost Odyssey, I would hope they can make a better game all these years later. But other then that, I would say Lost Odyssey is one of the best JRPG that I've played in years.

For any fan of Final Fantasy, Lost Odyssey is going treat you very well. The gameplay is interesting and engaging, the characters are well flushed out and emotional, and the story (so far, and I don't believe it will disappoint) sucks you in. Definitley don't pass on this if you are an RPG fan, especially if your a Final Fantasy fan.

As for people arguing which titles of the Final Fantasy series that Lost Odyssey may or may not be better than, that is entirely subjective. Different stories connect with different people; for example in my opinion Final Fantasy VIII was my favourite, and has been to this day.

I don't quite understand your post; I mean, Final Fantasy exists simply because it was the brainchild concept of Sakaguchi, which LOst Odyssey is as well. Without his creativity there would be neither, I believe you meant to say, and not that a simple title for a series is what inspires such work.

The FACT is that the standards for what an "RPG" is definitely has changed in the 21st century.

The highest rated RPG games nowadays are Award winning Action-RPG games such as Mass Effect and Elder Scrolls 4: Game of the Year Edition.

Final Fantasy VII certainly would NOT have been rated as high if it were released today. Everyone has great memories of games like the original Zelda, Metroit, Final Fantasy VII, Pac-Man, Street Fighter 2, ect...

However, when those games are re-released on the Xbox Live Arcade, or the Wii, then look at how the games aren't rated nearly as high as they originally were 10-25 years ago.

Lost Odyssey is a Japanese style RPG, which is why it didn't get rated as highly in North America as it did Japan. In North America, the games that win awards are Mass Effect and Oblivion. But in Japan, the games that helped the Xbox 360 sell well with big bursts in sales were Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey.

There is NO DOUBT that Lost Odyssey is better than ANY Final Fantasy game ever released. Obviously, the PC version of Final Fantasy VII is considered the best Final Fantasy game ever made. But Lost Odyssey has graphics, sound, that are way better. And more importantly, Lost Odyssey has game play and a storyline that are just as good, if not better!

people need to stop suckling off the tit of ff and judge things for what they are. the fact is lost odyssey is the new classic. i love ff but there are a lot of people who need videogamaholics anonymous to break there addiction to it, because you're missing out on really good games like L0
