I'm not excited that it's only 70% complete considering they've been talking about this game for like 3 or 4 years but yeah, I'm excited about the game. I'm a huge Final Fantasy fan.The xbox 360 version is nearly 70% complete! Who else is excited about this!? (I already pre-ordered hehehe!)

12 was a huge disappointment for me, both in style, story and combat. I liked some things, but the endless level grinding really got to me. I am a pretty big FF fan: FF4, 7 and 10 are some of my favorite games ever. But I don't really like the direction the series is taking. I understand that games need to change to stay fresh, but for me the changes they are making are not for the better.heysharpshooter
Bang on mate... hopefully 13 will be more a return to form. regardless of how much love 12 gets. it's and awful , awfulgame. I mean, WTF were they thinking making a game that plays like a MMO and making it a single player experience... dropped the ball there.
WOW!!!!!!! that's freaking sweet! I'll preorder it soon :DThe xbox 360 version is nearly 70% complete! Who else is excited about this!? (I already pre-ordered hehehe!)

Do you think they'll do a midnight launch for it?xXjordanXxI think they will. the game will be amazing. can't see why they wouldn't...
[QUOTE="xXjordanXx"]Do you think they'll do a midnight launch for it?orb_03_2006I think they will. the game will be amazing. can't see why they wouldn't... I don't know. They usually reserve that for the titles that they expect to get huge numbers (Halo series, Grand Theft Auto series, Madden series). I just don't think Final Fantasy, as huge of a series as it is, or the RPG genre really draws that kind of attention that would make stores stay open late and pay their employees even later. Just a guess though.

I don't recall 12 having a midnight release and I worked at a game store when it came out. The franchise as a whole just doesn't garner the kind of support that a game retailer is looking for to again, spend extra money to pay bills and employees necessary to keep a store open later.
I'm sure that if there is a midnight launch, many people will be there!DeadSarowUnderstatement of the year. I might go to a midnight release just to pick up weird, Japanophile chicks who cant fit into their Yuna costumes. Yummy.

Yeah. I'm normal, and I would be there.
I completely agree. I'm gonna watch more gameplay footage of the game. I recommend the same for you, too :DThe combat has me worried.. I hope I can enjoy it.

when FFXII came out it was 2006 they were already producing FFXIII and god of war was out by that year too also the xbox 360 not the same..

FFXIII will be a system seller. Its the first next-gen FF, and the first sequential FF game in about 4 years. It'll be a big deal. Just like FFVII was a big deal for the Playstation-era, and FFX for the PS2-era. This time around, it'll be multi-console as well, so thats gonna generate even bigger numbers.
And while FF may not be as big a seller as GTA, its definitely a bigger seller than Madden. So if Madden deserves a midnight release, I see no reason why FFXIII shouldn't.
EDIT: Just found an interesting page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_video_games
It lists Final Fantasy as the 6th best selling franchise of all-time. Some other interesting facts there, too.

I always appreciate a factual discussion. Looking at that I can't argue that Final Fantasy is one of the top selling franchises and I wouldn't even try, but I'm curious what their listing is for that. I mean even if you exclude 11 as an offshoot, that's still 12 Final Fantasy games plus spin offs that have sold 85 million. GTA has had 4 regular installments plus offshoots (no more than FF and with Tactics included, much less) and has sold 70 million. Final Fantasy has sold more overall as a series but if they stopped making them and kept releasing GTA in the same fashion it would crush it.
FF13 will sell well, don't get me wrong and I want to get it and think it will be good. But I don't know that a majority of retailers can justify staying open for a midnight sale because I don't think their immediate volume is going to be huge, in the millions of copies in the first day like they can expect for GTA or Halo releases.. I mean if you want that to happen or want there to be a better chance, I'd go pre-order it so they see the big demand for it and consider it. What I'm saying is I doubt that they will do a midnight sale. If they do, I'll gladly admit that I was wrong, I'm just not seeing it having a good chance.
Edit: I changed my numbers on sales. I had misplaced a 5 and a 0. FF has sold 85 million, while GTA has sold 70 million. Big difference (10 million over the difference I had listed before) but it doesn't change my argument.
I think the combat looks more fast paced and interesting than straight turn based but less frantic than 12's combat system was. I'm definitely liking it from what I've seen.CNUrGamesI didnt like 12 either, it wasn't a final fantasy as long as im concerned. I want true turn based or nothing.

I'm all for innovation. I liked 12 but the fighting wasn't my favorite style at all. This is turn based it's jsut the game doesn't pause when you don't do your attack and you only control one person. From what I've seen at least.

In the demo, you could only control one person, but its been confirmed that this is just a demo-only thing, and that you will have the ability to control all your characters individually in the final game, should you choose to do so.
And as for the other discussion we were having - you're definitely right that if you divide the overall sales figures of the FF games and GTA games by the number of iterations of each, that it still tilts in favor of GTA, I was just kinda pointing out that Final Fantasy IS a big deal. You might know more about whats worth keeping a store open for midnight launch and everything since you've previously worked at a game store, I just kind of expect FFXIII to be a pretty big deal. You may be right, though. We'll see.
P.S. I loved FFXII. It wasn't my favorite, but it still captivated me for over 100 hours of playtime.

I just dont like RPG's (where you have a party as such) and it isn't just simple turn based combat. The last FF I loved was 10 (not including FFXI, atlhough it was good its an MMO.) I just think if it isnt broke dont fix it... so why they changed combat I have no idea.

The stories are always built on the same archetypes which is ok, because they're still good and it's a good formula but the gameplay can't stay the same all the time.
