It's a great game! Don't listen to the reviews, again! IGN has proven once again that they have no clue on how to review a game. First off this game is a flawed masterpiece, which is a term I've heard a few people say. It's has some really, really great gameplay mechanics, some which don't always work out the way you'd hope, but are still inventive none the less.

There is no problem with the graphics, they actually look really good! The lighting is also very well done. Fire spreads at a speed that would seem normal. You can even set stuff on fire and use as a torch. You're character, when hurt bad enough, will drip blood and leave a shiny trail of plasma where ever he walks. The enemies can also pick up on this scent. You can heal by applying a medical spray similiar to RE and bandage them up. Your character will even have the bandages on, they just don't disappear once applied.

The first person view is cool as well, because you can blink and close your eyes (I don't understand why you'd need to close your eyes though :?), but you can blink by clicking R3. It's usefull to refocus your vision or to get the blood out of your eyes.

Combine objects to make even deadlier weapons is fun as well. True the controls are a little cumbersome at first, but after a short acclimation, you'll have them down.

The story is decent so far and I really like the DVD-esque pause menu that shows how far you are through the chapter. Also when you turn the game off and restart later you'll be treated to a, "Previously on Alone in the Dark" video that gives you a run down of the story up the that point. It's handy if you've forgotten about characters or parts of the story. I also like that you can skip any part of the game if you get stuck. I havent' encountered anything that would require me to use this function, but it's great for those that might need it.

This is truly a flawed masterpiece. Eden Studios really needed a MGS4 budget, then we really would have seen this game shine!

I hardly EVER listen to reviews on IGN, they bashed Rainbow Six Vegas 2 off so much saying things like 'Your Team AI is so good, there's no point in playing!' They're really bad game reviewers, everyone hates Gamespot's reviews so much now just because of what happened to Jeff, but in all honesty, they know what they're talking about.

On to the subject of Alone In The Dark, ive heared some bad reviews, but i don't really care, im gonna buy the game once i get paid because i really want something different for once. I just hope im not wasting my money.

meconate

Trust me, I don't feel like I've wasted my money so far. I had that feeling the moment I popped in Iron Man and believe me, this game doesn't give me anything close to that feeling.

I find Alone in the Dark to be quite a good game so far.

3.5/10 from the US reviewer and a 7.0/10 from the UK reviewer. What jokes.

IGNorant, are incapable of a credible review, they couldn't find their own behind with two hands and a flashlight.

I'm looking forward to picking up this game.

This game is truly amazing, the graphics are just mind-blowing. The gameplay, as said before, does take some getting used to, but its really fun and different. Even though I'm not far in the game, its already turning out to be a masterpiece.

Yeah, I agree, I'm going to get the game also. Plus, I read reviews to see what others think, reviews never become a factor when purchasing games for me. Most games that have received bad reviews turn out to be good games, for me at least.

Yeah, he opens his coat and looks down. It's just really neat how they handled the inventory system. Unlike RE4 where you just carry around this magical, invisibile gun case to hold all your stuff in.

Honestly, that's not even a review. That's just me explaining a lot of the cool elements that this game has! I might write a formal review when I get finished.

This is amusing, everyone before the AitD review screamed that ign overrates game, now they underrate games apparently, either way, I trust VanOrd on gamespot, and most ign reviewers.

This is good to hear, and is what I have been suspecting as well. I just picked up my copy without any reservations and will be popping it in tonight to see for myself. This is just one of those games that is going to be hated and scorned by the many, but will be one that I know I will ultimately enjoy on some level personally. I can just tell, and it would not be anywhere near the first time this will be the case. And I know that I am not "alone in the dark" in that regard either.

It just seems to me that alot of the reviews have not been giving this game credit for the risks that it took in order to step outside of the box of the norm for the sake of innovation. Yet if it stayed true to a tired, same ole', same ole' formula, I bet they would dock it for not beeing innovative enough. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Regardless of the bugs, flawed controls, ect., it seems from many player reviews, as well as other reviews, like 1Up and IGN UK, that this is a game that Eden dared to make different, and alot of it does indeed work, which makes the game more than worth it if you can over look a few flaws. You cannot just ignore what it does good, and just slam it for everything that it does bad. But, that is unfortunately what seems to be happening with this title. Cannot wait to play later.

you guys really like mediocracy dont youll, alone in the dark is an average game...it really isnt worth 60 bucks, not even 30....IGN were right in their review of this game, and rainbow six vegas..thinka bout it you fools, if your teamates clear out a room before you can even come in, then whats the point of playing, your not going to shoot anyone, so all you do is command..its pointless...if you actually played a huge role in eliminating the enemies, then it would be different..though this doesnt happen all the time, it still happens, and IGN rightly pointed it out..gamespot suck at reviews, they gave metroid prime 3 and mass effet an 8.5...and at the same time give halo 3 a 9.5.....what a big pile of BS....

I trust most ign reviewers.Andrew_Xavier

 Are you serious? They've been off on most of the recent reviews. IGN, Gamespot and most of the well known sites have really gone downhill and I think it's hilarious that people still read and trust their reviews or any reviews for that matter. Well if you feel the game is beneath you, then don't buy it, dont' play it, don't think about, just leave it at a 3.5 and keep waiting for Gears 2.

It's almost as if people are expecting way too much from games nowadays. I know that games are expensive, but some games a good regardless. This I feel is one of them. It offers plenty of fresh takes on a tired genre. It can't be everything to everyone, you know? Sometimes you have to settle for a slightly broken game that is still amazingly fun to play.

I actually thought they had one of the best Assassin's Creed reviews around, along with the 7.5 they gave it. I tend to agree with alot of their reviews as well, but this is just one of those games that is scoring low that I am sure I will dig. You are not always going to agree with reviews, no matter who does them. And just because a game is getting nailed in reviews, it does not mean that you personally will hate the game.

Hell, I cannot tell you how many times I have played a game that got raped by so called "pro" reviewers that I ended up loving. And on the other side of the token, there have been plenty of games that have recieved glowing reviews that I thought just sucked out right. I am sure you can relate.

Oh, I have too, I mean, Dark Messiah Of Might & Magic: Elements got a 3.5 here, and I played the entire game without a single one of the "bugs" they claimed were so prevailant. (Yeah yeah, check my gamerscore, I completed it :P)

I use reviews as a rough guide, I'm just saying, VanOrd and most IGN reviewers tend to be the closest to correct, as opposed to like gametrailers or something.

ummm IGN reviews their games pretty well..all their Wii game reviews are right on..they rightly gave resident evil UC a 7.9 along with no more heroes..which gamespot gave it a 9.0..that game is not 9.0 material....both IGN's and Gamespots GTA 4 and MGS 4 review were little too high, 9.7 for both...max i would give.....rainbow six vegas got the right score, and so did alone in the dark..dont bash the reviewers when they are merely pointly out flaws in the game that some people may not tolerate....in this day and age, when you have to pay 60 freakin bucks for you game, you'll want the devs to deliver a polished experience, that is well worth the money, those expereince are most of the nintendos first party franchises, Re4, Halo 1 not 2 or 3, Unreal tournament 3, call of duty 4, etc...not games like alone in the dark, rainbow six vegas 2 (too rushed), etc

Dark Messiah was indeed a fun game, I bought it and played it through as well. It was just simply fun to play and had some decent physics due to the use of the Source engine. Speaking of which, the physics in AitD is the main reason I wanted it. I can overlook the flaws due to the "let's see what all I can do" factor this game has tech wise.

Just asking, how do you start a fire? I heared everything can be set on fire but how? Please tell.

Usually there is something on fire and I will just pick up a chair, hold it in the fire until it ignites, then walk around setting stuff on fire. The fire will grow to surrounding objects if they are able to be set ablaze in the first place. Usually I do this for light in some dark areas, instead of eating up all my batteries for the flashlight. I know that you can create a type of flamethrower with a zippo and some spray, but I haven't found the can yet.

You can also bash open locked doors with heavy objects (fire extenguishers, barrier stands like at the movies) or you can just shoot the lock off the door. I think the game is really brilliant.

a review is someones informed opinion of a game, based off their personal preferences and experiences with the product. So just because someone said something you liked sucked, doesnt mean its wrong. It just means that they didnt like it. But if its something like the gameplay is broken and youre just too stubborn to see it, then thats your fault.

I hated assassins creed and yet somehow it was universally loved, even though you can experience what the whole game offered in the first 5 minutes.

I felt the same way about AC. When I watched the trailers I was really excited. Then when I bought the retail game, I was really excited for the first few days. Then I realized, just as you did, it's the same thing over and over. You have to go through the same process of collecting information, pick pocketing, eavesdropping, so on and so on, then you get to kill the main target once you get the required info. It just got really old. AITD looks and plays like a movie. That's the reason it's structured the way it is.

And don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to get everyone to run out and by this game while I sit and laugh about it. I'm honestly enjoying this game! I just felt that someone should say something about how most of the reviews are off regarding this game. This is from someone who has actually played it, not just watched videos and listened to others comments.

After playing with ninja gaidens camera, i dont think its gonna bug me too much. But anyway i always trust Game Informers Reviews and i wish they woulda reviewed AiTD in the most recent issue. I love how GI gives you a second opinion on the game so your not just hearing one persons views. They always seem unbiased.
