Ok, so heres what my business teacher told me and this should work to get a discount/free repair.

Microsoft is aware of hardware problems in the 360, and they must know people are p***** about repiring a product under 2 years old.

So what you do is call up Microsoft and ask them how much the repair is. Freak out when they say the price and try to get across one of the following points TO A SUPERVISOR, NOT THE PERSON WHO 1st PICKS UP THE PHONE. Be sure to sound serious and VERY angry (don't over do it or they'll hang up, but that could actully help when u call back)

1) I cannot afford that price, and will sell/trade/buy a nintendo or sony product that is more reliable.

2) Say how ridiculious it is that so many 360's are coming into repair, and that the repair fee is a slap in the face.

and the one that always works...

3) I'll take legal action, or file a complaint to a lobby group.

Usually a customer service reps #1 goal is to satisfy the customer, and in a situation like this where a re-call looks possible they'll give the customer the benfit of the doubt.

Has anyone tried this and been successful in getting discounted repairs??

IDK if that will really work but I guess it is worth a shot.  I can tell you M$ customer service is terrible and they may not realize what you are trying to do.  Usually the best way to attract bees is with honey... in other words be sycophantic and maybe you'll get your way.

That should work according this e-mail I sent MS support. I asked "Why are so many Xbox 360s breaking down? Is it a scam by Microsoft?"

This is the response...

"Customer satisfaction is our highest priority. Anyone who has an issue with their Xbox 360 console should call Xbox Support immediately so that we can help, or visit http://www.xbox.com/support.

There have been a few isolated reports of consoles not working as expected. The call rate is well below what you would expect for a consumer electronics product of this complexity. As a percentage of the total number of Xbox 360 systems already in the field, these calls represent a very small fraction.

There is no systemic issue with Xbox 360. Each incident is unique and these customer inquires are being handled on a case-by-case basis.

For further assistance, please don't hesitate to write back or call Xbox Phone Support at your earliest convenience, and we will be happy to help you."

If that Customer Support is there #1 priority then your excuses should work.

I had a launch.. I just happened to extend my warranty one month before the one year manufacture warranty went out... Thank goodness I did cause it messed up RIGHT when the year warranty expired. It was only $29 for another year.. not bad imo... specially since now I dont have to worry about it and can extend my warranty if I want as long as it is still in the warranty period.

yeah microsoft will sometimes go along with it becouse in contrast to what someone else said their goal is not to satisfy the customer but to get them to shut up and go away. the reason the free thing works sometimes is becouse its more of a hassle for them to have to bother with a speck on the map (a.k.a. you and me) Its funnier to watch this happen with the smaller companies becouse the warrenty is spelled out and given in very specific wording if anyone tried taking that to court you just lose your own time and money spent fighting a useless cause....

You most likly will. I don't don't believe its only a portion of Xbox's that are skrewing up. I know 3 other ppl with 360's (4 with me) and all of us have had hardware problems. From that stat 100% of 360's have hardware issues which is you should bookmark this thread lol.

True, were all just little nagging kids to microsft. "DADDY (Bill gates) MY XBOX BOKE, WAHHHHHH".

Even if microsft pwns u in court its still bad publicity, and they usually settle with u because court fees cost more than a few free Xboxs.

Yeah man I had to keep caling and calling. My problem was that it kept freezing when I would play Halo 2 not 360 games and the woman told me my halo 2 copy was messed up, so i got a new one and it still kept freezing. Finally I reached a nice young lady who actually helped me. I sent in my 360 and I got a refurbished one that works perfectly.

Sounds like your business teacher did a bang-up job of teaching you to be a first-class cry baby.  He should be proud.

I don't have a warrenty either so if my 360 breaks down I might do this as well or trade it in at Gamestop and get $250 for it and get the new black Elite

definately talk to a supervisor. mine failed after 6 months and before M$ extended the warrenty and I got mine fixed for free.

same thing just happened to a friend of mine and he's getting his fixed for free also even though his 360 is 4 months past the extended warrenty.
