Anyone who does NOT want to get ripped off and spend $100 on a wireless network adapter to play Xbox Live please listen to me...

If you have a laptop or even a desktop computer with BOTH a wireless card AND an ethernet port (kinda of a given these days), you can BRIDGE your wireless connection through your computer to your Xbox 360.

I tried doing this last night and it works like a charm. I can't believe how easy it was.

To enable:

1. Go to Network Settings.

2. Enable Internet Sharing

3. Go to Network Settings under Control Panel and select BOTH your Local Area Connection AND Wireless Internet Connection

4. Right Click and you will get an option to CREATE BRIDGE

5. Create the Bridge. It will take you about 10 seconds for the bridge to be created.

6. Plug ethernet cable into computer and the other side into your Xbox 360.

7. VOILA! Modified Wired/Wireless connection for your Xbox 360.

8. Now go spend your $100 on games...

Only flaw is that if someone else wants to use the laptop, it kinda defeats the point of having the laptop as you cannot move it.

Hurrah it worked! Unfortunately it doesn't work with my real laptop since it's connected to a different domain already but still!

I do this with my PC here at college (since I have my PC, 360, and PS3 all on my desk)... This is what I do:

Control Panel > *Put it in Classic View* > Network and Sharing Center (you can get here many ways, just get here) > Manage Network Connections > Right click the network you are using and select Properties > Select the Sharing Tab > Then just check the "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection." option and apply it...

That is it... You don't need to create a bridge or anything like that and it doesn't interupt your PC use... All you need is a motherboard with 2 ethernet ports (which most have), or a network card with 2 ports which they definitely will if you have one (though most mainstream people don't have a dedicated network card, but it doesn't matter...) Just as long as there are 2 ports...

Yea this has been out there for a while. But I don't want to have to leave my laptop on all the time, and I like using it for tips if I'm stuck for more than a half hour, or surfing the web during multiplayer matchmaking.

I only recommend using a wireless connection as a last resort. There's a reason the wifi adaptor is over priced. It's a barrier to entry so XBL doesn't have a significant number of users on wifi.

Seriously...the only way wireless is worse is if your connection just sucks in general. Or if you're using a 802.11b router. Use a G signal with a fast cable, T1 connection and you're golden.

DSL sucks...it's like a halfway broadband connection.

Isnt this kind of obvious? Of course your gonna use an ethernet cable if you can. People use the wireless adapter for when their 360 and PC are on separate floors.

I found out about this a long time ago. I had already purchased the Wireless Wifi thingy by then. I think its still more comfortable to just buy the damn thing. I hate moving my laptop close to my TV and consoles.
