FREE XBOX LIVE (if it's in your motto)???

So a lot of people are claiming that M$ will make Xbox live free if enough subscribers put "Free Xbox Live" in their motto. Sounds pretty good huh? I mean, who doesn't wanna save an extra $50 a year (or whatever plan you may have)?

But let me be the first to say that I DON'T WANT XBOX LIVE TO BE FREE. Why the heck not? Simple. The service would suffer greatly if there was no money coming in from it. XBL is the best online gaming service right now and that's why we have to pay for it. Nothing is free. At least nothing that I want. I would rather shell out the extra cash and have a great service as oppose to getting it for free and losing so much. Demos, themes, gamerpics, arcade, chat features, system updates. Money is what keeps these great things available.

So please M$, do what you do best. Keep taking our money. To me, XBL is worth it.

i look at the other day's crashingas a prime example of how poor live would be if it were free. that would be a consistant thing if it were free.

aye them pictures are just a way of makin sure when ur under 200/300 odd points u waste them and dont save them till next time and buy something bigger. id never buy any of them, but have bought the odd pack or two when they was nothing else i cud afford with my last 200.

would of been fairer if when you bought the games that the themes or pictures are from you can install them from the game dvd and buy them on marketplace if aint got the game.

must admit when i got my 360 3 months ago and all the time previousily with orig xbox i always resented paying to go online thinking back to my pc and it all being free and ps being free. but my friends always moaned about how **** ps online was, unrelieable etc. after a month of my 360 i decided to try to wire it up to my router and just go with the silver member ship and it offered me a months trial, i thought id sack it off after the month for sure rather than pay, but after only 2-3 days i can safely say i was hooked. doubt id ever let my subscription lapse, its much better than playing a pc game online where u just have that game etc, id of never ever used the voice headsets if it wernt given to me with my xbox, but they add so much fun and good to see what everyone is playing and keep in touch with all ur friends.

as for the motto crap, people shud wise up and realise they only partaking in stupid cain mail adding **** like that to they motto, its not going to do anything, and people who think they are stupid. whats next put lend me £100000 bill gates and once they 1 million users with that as they tag everyone gets 100k lol

you see.. the ads make money.. and maybe (i doubt it though, but i'll give it to you) there is enough in advertising money to keep it running decent with the users who currentlyhave live.. but you see, if live was free.. almost every xbox user would have it.. more users = need more cash for servers.. no more cash for servers = live sucks.

$50 out of my yearly salary can add up to a million dollars and I wouldn't care. $50 a year is nothing. If I live another 30 years, that's $1500. I'm cool with that.

And according to another thread asking how old 360 owners are, most people pay for it themselves since most 360 gamers are 22+ years old.

it amazes me when people state that they can't afford $4 per month in order to game online. When you are going to buy a pop or two, don't... save that money and you can pay for xbl in no time. You don't even really have to give up fast food.. Just hit up the Dollar Menu. Get a $1 double cheese burger, instead of the $4.99 Super Cheese Burger Combo. You can even throw in a $1 fries and coke, and still come up with a $1.99 to put towards your monthly payment.

You don't want XBL to be free because you're afraid Live will go down the crapper if they stop taking our money? I don't really think MS has a choice, they have to make Live far better than its competitors because it is one of their major selling points. They'll make it the best service they can make it not because of a measly $50 per year, but because the wolves will be gathering around them if they don't. Also keep in mind how much money MS has sunk into the Xbox project since the creation of its first console, $50 per year isn't much to them.

Mainly I think they charge the fee because they CAN. This is MS we're talking about here.

I've never experienced PS3 online but hopefully one day all consoles will have a great online system. But of course that might mean we'll be paying an online fee for up to 3 consoles.

People who think paying for On-line gaming is necessary are very ignorant.

PSN offers free videos, demos, gamerpics, themes, On-line multiplayer. Same as Xbox Live, except Xbox Live makes you see advertisements and pay $50 a year. Also, Microsoft automatically charges you $50 to renew regardless of whether you want to or not. I would also like to point out that there is no way to remove a payment method without adding another. So the only way NOT to be charged is to have an invalid credit card....like one that was good, but you called and cancelled.

Also, playing multiplayer on the PC is free.

i think live should either be free with the option to pay more for the maps and gamerpics etc. or the other way round, not both. if anyone here has played guild wars, they will know how good game servers can be without charging a fee and as far as I'm concerned, xbox live's "high quality service" doesn't seem to be any less laggy than anything else around.

I'm pretty sure this statement is bogus...I've never had to so I'm not 100% sure but that is robbery if you cannot cancel your subscription. If you call M$ and cancel I'm sure you would not be billed once your year is up.

it will keep subscribing automatically unless you cancel, but if you don't call and cancel when you don't want it, then that is your own fault
