I disagree... not dealing with discs is fantastic. I hope you love the game and plan on playing it forever. Some games are only one play through games for maybe a year or 2. I don't feel like spending $30 or $20 on a game like that when i could easily find it $10 or $15 somewhere else. Plus there are those rare titles that sell for 2x more than when released. Digital games are nice... if they are cheaper. These games are not though at all.....
EDIT: Who is to say you will have these games on the next Xbox? I know many people are fond of selling consoles when a new one comes out and if you were to do that then you would lose massive amounts of money compared to disc version. All i can say is i hope you're ready for the digital age because when it happens prepare to spend way more than you would ever have with physical copies.
That's one of the biggest scare tactics going to stop digital distribution
The fact is this. Right now the thing that costs gamers the most is that games can be turned in to places like Gamestop
Gaming is the only field of entertainment that allows it's users to make money off it's wares. You can go right into a store and buy a game then sell it to someone when you're done with it. You get to make money once you're done with the experience.
What happens if you try that for a movie in the theater? Oh that's right you can't, unless you tape the movie and then sell it and then the police arrest you and the lawyers from Warner Brothers makes sure you never do it again.
The ability to sell games once played is killing the game industry and raising prices for everyone. No one knows how many units a game has ever sold. People are upset about game prices? Well then look at every single person who sells their games and buys them used. That being done gives the gaming industry the need to guess on all of it's sales.
If the entire gaming industry went to digital distribution then companies would have solid numbers for how much a game brought in compared to how much it costs to make.
People always try the scare tactics of "well if they only have digital distribution all prices will rise"
False
If all the numbers are solid then they CAN'T overcharge because anyone would be able to see they're doing it. The way the industry is today with selling back games all companies can fudge their numbers because most of it is a guessed projection "we think it'll sell this many in the first week" and then "we think this many users will buy it second hand"
Reselling games is what's holding back gaming from being on a whole new level when it comes to entertainment. Digital distribution will stop that
