Are there any games, highly praised or not, that you tried really hard to get into but just couldn't? For me it would be Halo 3. I tried multiplayer and I played about halfway through single player campaign but just never really got into it.

Dead Rising. It's a great concept but the design flaws and terrible saving system took me out of the experience.
I can see why someone wouldnt like halo if your not into the whole fantasy thing but i thought overall it was a great gamebibb11I'm not against the whole fantasy thing....I don't really know what exactly it was about halo series for me. It just plain sucks. lol. Sorry I know people love this game series but for me I could never get into it. I would dominate people online too and it still just wasn't any fun. It was just so plain and common. I guess being an older gamer I think Unreal and quake did it so much better and kinda played that genre out. By the time halo came out it was just plain boring for me at that point. I think many Huge halo fans are much younger and didn't experience a lot of really good sci-fi shooters until halo. I don't know.

None, I research games before I buy them.

Just because you do research on a game doesn't mean you won't end up disappointed in the story when all is said and done...
I bought 80+ retail games and 10+ arcade games this gen without any regrets. So far, research has been a great way to avoid regrets also, what's up with everyone questioning me about this? Is it truly unbelievable that someone can buy games they actually like? Just because you buy games you don't like doesn't mean that everyone does.

Agreed, I "research" my games before I buy them as well. However, I still have been disappointed by numerous games. Personal opinion is different for everyone. Gamestop loved GTA4. I hate it.

See, this is kind of hard to believe. I do research, I read reviews, I watch game play videos, I read threads talking about the games and yet I still find myself being disappointed by some titles. Its not lack or research, or lack of ability to play, or dislike towards that genre, its a dislike towards the game.
I love Dragon Age: Origins but I'm massively disappointed by the millions of glitches in the game, anything from having one of my party members start walking away in the middle of a fight, to being stuck in the fighting animation while nobody is around.
I'm just so sick of people saying "I research games before I buy them" because that's crap. It's total bull that you watch the preview of a movie and watch it to find it that it was right down bad, same thing goes for video games.
Edit: Grammar.

Braid. I don't get what the big deal is.

Perhaps you should enlighten everyone to your researching techniques that yield zero disappointment? Do you just read all the spoilers about the story so that you know if it will be a disappointment or not?

Should I list all of the games that I have and we can have a discussion about them? Did you ever know that a lot of games are similar? I'm sorry to say but I have realistic expectations for games and I never hype them up. Just because, you don't know how to research your games properly doesn't mean that everyone is the same. Yea, everyone does have different opinions but unlike you I actually know what I like. Why would I lie about this anyway? So how do you know that I don't like all of my games? I'm amazed by this whole pointless discussion.

I'm amazed that you seem to hold yourself so highly above us "non-researchers" or "poor-researchers" because you "never hype" and play "the same kind of games". I'm sorry, I can't be like you, I'm quite human and I hype quite a lot. I believe they call that emotion.
Also, being realistic has nothing to do with it, unless you basically know the story and the ending already there's no way you've never been disappointed with a games ending, part, or whole story. Unless you're generally simplistic and are easily entertained by the screen and pretty colors.
And I can't play the same game over and over again, it starts to get old. But hey, I guess you're right at home with the "Same old" game.
So don't try to come on here saying that your 80+ games haven't in the least bit disappointed to you because we all know you're just lying to yourself.
When did I say I was better than everyone else? Oh yea I am so superior because I have never been disappointed with a game.. Whenever I buy a cheap game I don't have huge expectations for it. I have some games that are only good for their cheap price. The bourne conspiracy is a great game but is way too short to pay more than 20$ for it. I have plenty of games that were cheap and were only good for that price.

So basically, what you're saying is, that you buy the cheapest games and hold them to the lowest possible expectation so that it shocks and awes you even if its slightly good? Bravo, I guess you won this one, I was 100% wrong.

Thank You kind sir I'm glad you like my taste. By the way, I buy 60$ games as well not just cheap ones. I personally, like to give cheap games a chance because a lot of them are underrated or still a lot of fun.

Previews, who the developer is, gameplay videos, look for reviewers that you agree with, users that you normally agree with, and reviews. I personally, like the taste of Kozzy, bioshockownz and toriko. The games they say that are underrated are games that I enjoy a lot. Also, make sure the game is actually worth the price you are paying for it.
you WHAT!?!?!? TF2 is awesome lol o well your opinion :) For me it was uh, Some RPG's that i cant remember LOLTeam Fortress 2
Lost Odyssey
Half Life 2

I tried to like Fallout 3. I really liked Oblivion invested some heavy gameplay on it, so when I bought Fallout 3 I sorta had the same expectation. In many regards its a better game than Elder Scrolls IV but I just didnt dig the content and really found out long games with tedious inventory manageent are not my cup of tea. When it comes to RPG's I will just stick to the Fable series, its just more amuzing and easier to get into. But to each their own I say. I can't stand WOW but millions of other people sure do.

If you haven't played Halo or Halo 2 you wouldn't... duh. All the stories are interconnected so you're not gonna get invested when you don't understand anything or know any of the characters.
BioShock! I think that on paper it should be a masterpiece, and I really understand how people could like it, but I was never so bored in my life while playing it (and that's coming from someone who loves the normally "boring" text adventure genre). I just didn't have any fun while playing.
