Gears 3 not coming before five years from now?

"September 25, 2009 - The wait for Gears of War 3 could be longer than expected, with Epic Games President Mike Capps saying it will be released on the next generation of consoles meaning that it could be between four to five years until we see Marcus Fenix and company again.

Capps was addressing an audience at this week's Tokyo Game Show in a Q&A session attended by Eurogamer - that announced the foundation of a Japanese studio for the US developer.

Regarding the future of Epic's revered console series, Capp said "If there were a next Gears of War, that will be for the next console generation, whenever that is. If someone knows, please tell me! That's about four or five years away, I think."

He also revealed that the company has been working on Unreal Engine 4, the successor to the omnipresent Unreal Engine 3, for seven years, and that it would be fully compliant with the next generation of consoles."

5 years? why would they be so dumb? they cant be working on anything else that anyone will care about. theyll build it from the ground up with UE4 so it might take a while i suppose.

I think I remember this article, and I think I remember later it was discovered that Epic just said it wrong, and that its like the Unreal 4 that will be next console or something. Not sure though. I don't see Cliff waiting that long though.

I honestly doubt they'll keep to that. Epic is a company and every company wants money. Unless they can put out some other new game thats turns into a big hit I just don't seethem leaving Gears alone.

I doubt it will be that long, but who knows.

it would be nice if epic can still make a gears games based off on E-Day.

I think Gears 3 would be a perfect launch title for the next xbox console. I'd rather have a complete polished game over a rushed product any day. EPIC if you can read this message, please take you're time with the next Gears instalment and remove host advantages.

but gears 3 will be set for 2011 MARK MY WORDS,3 years is enough to make a game with new engine(like bungie did with halo 3)

in 2012 ms will launch the new Halo (343 studios)

and in 2013 Bungie will launch their New IP (working since halo 2 with 20 devs)

in 2014 the new xbox

2015 gears of war 4

2016 the new halo sequal.

not quite 5 years i bet. in about a year, i would expect an announcment from MS on a new xbox. then soon after that you'll see an announcement for the games on the new console, Gears3 could be one of those. Thats my opinion.

Everyone thinks there is going to be 4 gears games because there are 4 Carmine brothers. So, one has to be in each game. I'm pretty sure Cliff already said it was going to be a trilogy. Nobody thought that EPIC could put two Carmine brothers in the same game?

there will be cliff said if gears 2 goes well there will be a 3 and then if gears 3 goes well they will end it off with 4

Here's a question for you all..

What if they wait 5 years to release Gears 3 on UE4.. and it really isn't all that amazing compared to other games that'll be out then.

Or what if it goes Duke Nukem Forever on us.. and the company tanks entirely.

Personally, I think they should make a Gears 3 within the next year or two.. Then finish it all off with Gears 4 on the next gen consoles with UE4 and all that.
It'd keep people interested.

5 years from now, very few people will care enough about Gears to actually keep paying attention to when it comes out. Most will forget, lose caring for the games entirely.
They'll lose a fair bit of the fanbase. Also, unless they sell another big hit in the mean time.. they might not have the cash to give Gears 3 a huge Ad campaign and whatnot when it IS actually released. So even fewer people will know, and care.

Throw the trash that is Gears away and make more Unreal Tournament!

Honestly, work has probably been going on for this game since Gears 2 was released. Even if it was released this winter, it would be far from a rushed product.

Someone in Microsoft already said 3 years ago it's strategy was to release a Halo or Gears game every other year. So we had Gears 2 in '08, ODST in '09, Reach in '10, and I'm sure it will be Gears 3 in '11. They would be very foolish not to release a trilogy on the current system. I'm sure they can do prequels or sequels on the new Xbox in 5 years. But I'm sure a new system isn't that far off.

Kinda figured this, with them working hard on Unreal Engine 4 and all. Kinda happy about it though. I want UE4(and Gears 3) to be as good as possible.
