I dont, I think it was a great game, as was gears 2. Above 9.0 I think one is just splitting hairs. Any game that has an average above 9 isusually anincredible game, with only indvidual personal tastes that matter.

They was wrong they changed the game to much, in a bad way, gears 1 was alot better yes it had its problems like the host shotgun but overall its a brilliant game

they made Gears 2 more explorable and had plenty great weapons, and a great campaign. it was better in every way, except the multiplayer

Even though Gears is one of the main reasons I own a 360, I have to somewhat disagree with what you said.Cliffy B admitted in numerous interviews that Gears was influenced by several other games from the previous generation of gaming. One of those games was Killswicth and "NOBODY" can deny that the cover system was copied from that game."BUT" what Gears developers should get credit for is taking the different Ideas and making them better. That's why I knew I was going to love Gears before I even touched it because from gameplay footage I was able to recognize most of the borrowed gameplay mechanics.
I actually liked the story a lil better in Gears 1. Am I the only that thinks the story mode was waay longer in Gears 1. I remember beating Gears 2 and thinkin 'WTF, is this it?' I didn't like the mp in Gears1 at all though. I love Gears 2 Horde Mode. Sum nites I can't get enough of it. To answer the TC question, No, Gears 1 was not overrated.
I think Gears 2 is much better than first Gears. The story is much deeper and I liked the swerves on it, the graphics a little bit better and the gameplay is pretty much the same.
I think I liked the sequel just because the surprise deaths in the story mode :twisted:
nope gears 1 was amazing especially for the time that it came out it was one of the first great next gen games. 2 is great as well. Yeah the online isnt perfect but the good far outweighs the bad.
The idea of saying that its overrated just because the sequel made some improvements is completely absurd. There wouldn't BE a sequel if not for all the innovations of the first game. This is kind of like saying that Super Mario Brothers is overrated since Super Mario Brothers 3 made lots of improvements.
If anything, Gears 2 was a bit overrated. I think it deserved a solid rating in the 8-9 range, but nothing quite as extraordinary as GeoW. Taking the games in context, GeoW was very impressive when released in 2006 and had quite a few innovations (cover, active reload) that made the gameplay awesome. This, in addition to a well-paced campaign, made for an exceptional game. Gears 2 never quite got there for me. The campaign was solid but nothing special, and the expanded multiplayer suite was certainly appreciated but I didn't think it was revolutionary. Anyways, the game didn't blow me away in its context (08, post-Modern Warfare, Halo 3, or even The Orange Box), compared to how I felt playing GeoW.

well it invented the whole "get to cover or get ur ass kicked" gameplay mechanic, so yeah i think it deserved it, and also i was blown away by the cover mechanic when i first played it
gears 1 was the game of the year since there wasn't a game that can match it for graphics, gameplay innovation, and of course, the best chainsaw use. Gears 2 has much better campaign, non-stop action, and many improvements. So, the game overall is a great great game. Definitely not overrated. Gears 2 is a bit underrated, but hey, who's complaining. It has sales more than the best selling PS3 title, which is GTA 4.
Overall Gears 1 was better than Gears 2 IMO. If you wanted to play a ranked first to 10 Execution match on any map of your choice you could and you would play with over people who were seeking the same match as well. None of this "lets vote on a game mode, and two random maps" business Gears 2 pulls off. There are other reasons I prefer Gears 1 over Gears 2 but I've posted those on other threads already. :P
No way. Gears of War was an incredible game for its time. You can't say that Gears 2 should have scored higher, because it came out 2 years after the first one, and the gaming industry has changed in those 2 years. Gears 1 changed the third person shooter genre, Gears 2 was just another third person shooter after that. Also, Gears 2 multiplayer is rubbish. Now, Gears 1 multiplayer isn't much better these days, but at least it used to be amazing.
Actually I find the game can have the same rating.Sure Gears 1 has the great single player experience but Gears 2 has the great Multiplayer experience so they both round themselves out.Gears 2 single player shortcomings are rounded out by the multiplayer and Gears 1 multiplayer short comings are rounded out by there great single player so I think they both deserve a 9.5.
