Gears of War is NOT Overrated

I think it's overrated because almost any other game that got around that score, I enjoyed much more. Oh, wait, switch that to every game. Halo 2 for example got 9.4 here, and almost the same as gears overall. Still I think halo 2 is a lot better for its time.

There, that's all.

I think the general idea is not that it isnt a great game but that it isnt the greatest game ever like some people are saying. I played through the SP 4 times and played online a few times and didnt really care for the MP. I much rather play rainbow six.

I do think its a great game, but I can think of a ton more I'd rather play.

I personally think that it is overrated for people who prefer to play games more for their SINGLE PLAYER campaign experience, which after all is the heart and soul of a game. Do not get me wrong, I think that it is a great game, with superb graphics, but the story IS entirely TOO SHORT.....PERIOD.

They could have at least added a few more levels, along with a few more boss battles....such as with BRUMAK for instance. Why in the hell would they leave that battle out the game? As a teaser for Gears 2 maybe? Who knows, but it still SUCKS that they excluded that battle, regardless. They could have also added a few other boss battles against maybe some characters that were similar to General RAAM, but of course different as well. Why not maybe even add a few vehicle levels similar to what is offered in HALO for example?

Now please tell me that the above mentioned examples would not have made for a MUCH richer, fuller and over all more COMPLETE game? If they would have added such features, it no doubt would have been one of the best shooter oriented games that I have ever played....maybe even THE best. 

As I said though, I DO love the game, but for what it is, I believe in my opinion that the lack of a full and better rounded SINGLE PLAYER CAMPAIGN experience makes the game overrated in my book. It is of course a great game, only it is just too rushed and far too incomplete of a game in my opinion. In summary....it could have been MUCH, MUCH better. 

I don't think its overrated at all. It's everything I thought it would be, and I agree with the high review scores. Playing that game first-time through was a jaw-dropping experience for me... loved it.ryanjtravis

Wow, you're something else.  You created a thread a little while ago asking if you were the only person who didn't like the game, (thread is on the second page), then you come in here & say it's really good, then you just admitted in another thread that you HAVEN'T EVEN PLAYED IT!!!  You should really stop while you're still behind...

Gears deserves a 8.2, not a 9.6

The game looks nice, but frankly the campaign is short and the multiplayer sucks.

Gears of War is one game in recent memory that actually lived up to the hype. Epic didn't make a bunch of promises & then drop them at the last minute or not deliver what they said they would. So Gears is not overrated IMO, but it's also not the greatest game I have ever played or anything.ColoradoKindBud

It's over rated. I've played co-op, and that was very fun. The single player though its short is pretty good. The multiplayer is what kills the game. Sure its fun for a month or so, but I just got tired of playing the same gametype and not being able to play with friends (Yea, yea. Play player matches! Screw that! Everyone knows those are not as serious and even more people quit in those).

You know what would make GEoW deserve its 9.6?

-Longer Single Player

-More gametypes

-Party System (Halo 2's matchmaking)

-Better ranking system

your comment makes absolutely NO sense.  If you agree that the game lived up to the hype, then it is not over rated.  Why?  Because the hype for this game was SO huge, and lasted for SO long that very few games in history would be able to actually live up to. 

So you agree that the game lived up to the never ending massively enourmous hype around it, then you have to admit that the game is GREAT.  Period.  Choose one...you cant play both sides of the fence on this one.

And thats the problem...there are many people out there like you that say stuff like this....there are some people out there that for whatever reason (I attribute it to immaturity, but maybe its something else) they think its the cool thing to do do bash gears.  Why?  Because everyone loves it, the vast majority of critics love it, and living outside of the norm is "cool".  So you dont let yourself like it, and you end up saying stuff like "yeah it lived up to the hype, but it still sucks".  Gimme a friggin break. 

Heres a thought...if the game ACTAULLY was crappy, no one...i mean NO ONE would be talking about it anymore!!  There would be NO argument about whether or not the game lived up to the hype...there would be no debate.  Because no one would of liked it, and everyone would of forgotten about the game by now. But its been over 3 months since its release and we still have to hear people complaining that the game sucks.  If you really hate the game, do everyone a favor and trade it in for something else and shut your trap.  Im sick of this whole topic of conversation.

Thats a good way of putting it.  Hey, its not the best game you ever played, but you know what....no one has ever said that its the best game ever made.  But what it does it does very well.  It has definitely lived up to the hype, and it has sold consoles.  That means the game is very good, and deserving of its 9.6 that it got from this site (and got pretty much the same score everwhere else).  No one is saying its the best every, but its a seriously cool game.

It's over-rated because I lost all interest to play it after less then 3 weeks. The multiplayer is extremely repetitive... and how many times can you go throught the campaign before that gets boring? gintheplacetobe
