Depends if you're looking for single player gaming or live gaming.

They both have extremely short single player campaigns. I found that both kept my attention to the end and I wanted to see how things were going to end up. I was a little bit disappointed with COD4's ending though...it didn't feel like it was ready to end and I was surprised when it just ended. Still in the end if it's single player it just comes down to the decision of whether you want a sci fi game or a realistic shooter.

I haven't played COD4 on live yet due to the fact I'm on vacation now but from what I hear it's definately worth it.

I really didn't like Gears at all. I thought the game play and multiplayer sucked. Call of Duty 4 is an amazing game and I think people would get more out of that game than Gears fer sure.-MotownTigers-

I've been playing most of the new releases but at the end of the day I still don't feel right unless I get on live and play some gears.

Gears of War isnt too bad of a game. a bit annoying I found esp when trying to dodge bullets and it goes into its cling to concrete mode by pressing the a button. when all i wanted to do is run.

the ending of GOW is hard. having to kill the boss with 2 different types of weapons as well as run past him while staying in the lights gets tricky.

I am waiting to get cod4 which I should get this week.

all up. as others have said, get GOW first as you can pick it up cheap. check ebay and get a used copy. then buy cod4 from ebaywhen you finish GOW. that way you will get both games for the same price as you will pay for cod4 new in shops.

another game to look at is. Half - Life 2 the orange box. 5 games in the 1 box. I have been playing HL2 for 13.4 hours and still got 2 levels to go. very good game. then there is ep1 and ep2 as well as the other games to go.

COD 4 has amazing online and everyone is on it right now, get that, u will probably mainly play camp. on gears so you can get that whenever.
