is it me or is gears of war just graphics and new weapons ???

There's been a million of these threads. I think it was just a shiny new fad. I think it was all about the graphics... if you say "this game is better than gears of war," then people will jump at them and say "no way that game's graphics are not where nearly as good as gow" I don't think people were ever big on the gameplay. At least, that's not what stood out.Gears of War was just the first game to come out that looked good. with this year most of the games will definitely be better then gears. GOW just came out in a time where there werent too many games that accelled in the graphics area, thats why the hype was so big.
I beat the singleplayer, it was fun and all, but it was just a better than average game in my opinion. The multiplayer was shakey and random, I can't stand it. The game was good I'd buy Gears of War 2, but it's nothing amazing. I think there are many games coming out this year and the next that will be better than GoW.ag1002
i like the game alot i dont feel that it's a failur i agree with many of you sometimes i feel as if there is 7 people you can choose from their should be at leat a 7 v 7 if thats the most the game can handle any how a good game made with easy gameplay and good graphics thats how it falls on my list but it gets very boring at times i dont know if i'll ever get the 10,000 kills lol

why Gears is GREAT:
- fun single player with a variety of things to do (fight with a team of 4 or with just your partner, separate pathways that are still connected to each other in some way, the headlight mission and mine cart mission to change things up)
- great graphics and sound
-Â fun and creative weapons to use (chainsaw on the Lancer, Hammer of Dawn)
- one of the few multiplayer games on Live that gets the concept of "teamwide cooperation and coordination" right
- the perfect blend of strategy (GRAW, R6V) and arcade-style shooting (Halo, UT)
Why Gears is HORRIBLE:Â
- host advantage
- online community full of jerks
- other than annex, there are no respawns
- heavy use of the shotgun, unless you are skilled with other weapons (hammerburst, torque bow, longshot) that you have easy access to (not weapons that are in the middle of the map)
- no way to stop team stacking
I got a 360 just a few days ago and of course Gears of War with it. Truthfully after experimenting with the single player and online multiplayer I felt that this game did not live up at all as to how much people praise it.Â
The single player is short and the story is not that great. The online multiplayer from what I have seen, is a max of 8 players, meaning only a max of 4 players on each team, which imo is horrible, especially for a game that is supposed to be so great of an online game. The second problem I found with the online was the lack of weapon variety, you start off with the same guns it seemed like on every map, on both teams, a rifle, a shotgun, a pistol, and grenades, that's what you get at the beginning, EVERY ROUND. Now I know there are other guns you can pick up, but these guns I found to be extremely noob or unbalanced to the other guns in the game, the one I saw was a sniper like gun with a one shot kill, and the other was some beam of light that just came down out of the sky and killed someone. Another thing about the weapons is, besides the fact with someone would pick up the two above weapons, no one would use any other gun then the shotgun, that's all, the whole online game became a shotgun war where people just ran back and forth hoping that they did more damage with their shotgun before the other person killed them with their's.Â
Another problem I find with the game in single player, and mutliplayer, is the lack of the ability of my character to do normal human things that should be no problem for super buff body buidling men like that, for instance, there is a ledge that has a somewhat high drop off, not too high that would actually harm someone, but decently high, now, my character being the tough man he is can't just drop off this ledge, no, he has to run all the way around the freaking map to get down. Another problem I found, the lack of the ability to jump, now being able to jump isn't a necessity in a shooter game, but it would definitly add alot more variety and bring more content to the game. Another not necessarily problem, but something I found to be dumb, having to pay for new maps, now I know they will be free in I believe September it is, but really, paying for maps, that's quite sad.Â
Now maybe I just expected to much from this game but with how much people hype it I was expecting something much better. For instance, take the original Counter-Strike for example, the original mod was released in 1999, making the game about 8 years old now, that game has so much more content and variety and strategy in it, for a cheaper price, and all the DL content for it is FREE. Counter-Strike boasts over 20 guns, has a knife, and 3 different types of grenades, several compelling types of game situations, such as hostie rescue, VIP rescue, bomb execution, and just plain out killing eachother, the servers vary in size and can get up to I know atleast 64 man servers, thats up to 32 players playing on each team. Oh and CS just doesn't stick you with certain guns, you get to pick the ones you want at the beginning of every round, sounds good to me, compared to just being stuck with the same guns every round. In cs you can jump and boost players adding and making new experiences to the game everytime you play. There are thousands of maps for CS ALL FREE to DL. Oh and did I mention counter-strike the orignal is still the most popular online shooter, yea and that's not including players from CS Source or Condition Zero.Â
So after coming from playing CS I would have to say Gears of War seems like a piece of crap to me, a $60 game versus a $20 game that also lets you download popular games such as Half-Life, Opposing Force, Team Fortress Classic, and Day of Defeat, among MANY others, all for free after you purchase CS. So I'm sorry but the reason why I dislike Gears of War is because it can't even beat an 8 year old game on any level other than graphics, and that's it, IMO that's really sad, and for the current most popular "next gen" game, I expected alot more, and alot better.

You, sir, are an idiot.
The problems are as follows.
-Host Advantage
-Over use of shotgun
-The snipers power shot is cheap
-Getting hit with a melee.  You don't have time to get out of the way of the next hit.
-Lack of actual RANK.  If there was rank, the quitters who leave in the first round cause they suck would stay with theirÂ
brethren.Â

you my friend what rainbow six vegas.. go.. buy ... now
Single player is Awesome. Multiplayer, well, not so awesome.
The good about online: Phoenominal graphics and sound, smooth framerate considering the amount of detail being rendered. Cool weapons, Interesting level design, lots of action.Â
The bad about online: Lag. Random shotty damage, sometimes it seems like your shotgun is filled with blanks, other times, you can blow opponents to pieces with one shot without even aiming. The game is a haven for white supremacists who attack you using racial slurs the entire match the instant they realise they cant kill you but you can kill them without breaking a sweat. Glitchers. I can deal with the sliding and the chainsaw glitchers, but when people start warping me clear across the map when im about to kill them, thats unacceptable. Hosts who take the game waaaay too seriously and think that hosting the match gives them some instant athority over every teammate, every round. You gotta do what they say all the time just cause theyre hosting, even if theyre strategies are predictable and getting you beat like you stole something.
I like it because it's mindless fun.
I don't like it because of all the noobs, jerks, lil kids, and cheaters.Â
