I'm deciding between which to get, i heard something about the new chips, are they on the 60 gbs? elites? I cant wait for fable 2 and gow 2... just need a working box now.

Get the Elite. Its not that much more expensive and for the extra storage its well worth it especially as when the new update hits us we'll be able to rip entire games to the hard drive for faster load times etc. I understand that some of the new pro consoles have the new chip and HDMI support but not all of them at retail have that yet as i witnessed at Walmart yesterday. Only the Elite consoles have that right now for sure, so that coupled with the extra space surely means the Elite is the console of choice. I never agreed with diferent versions in the first place. they should all be the same IMO

Besides, why would you need a new one if you already have one that has RROD. Call microsoft and get it repaired. My brother did this recently with his original launch console and got back one of the new improved machines as they didn't want to bother repairing it. I have 3 friends who had the same thing happen to them so it seems that microsoft are just replacing the consoles now rather than repairing them. The turn around time in the UK is about 2 - 3 weeks at the moment so not too long to wait

its funny you say that cause my elite crapped out today

so from my exp there isnt really any reason to get an elite anymore (the new pro and such come with hdmi right?)

can someone answer my rrod Q though, once you get it does it stay like that till its fixed or is it possible that it goes away (though i'm sure it would come back soon if it did)

I'm wanting a new one for HDMI and a larger harddrive btw.

well, when i got it i left it on when i called customer support and later i turned it back on and it worked again....probably a rare case for me.

but if you wrap the console in about 3 thick towels and leave it on for a while (with no disc or cords except power cord, no HD or MU) the RROD will go away for a while, probably until you get the replacement box.

There are some instances of RROD Xboxes to magically start functioning again, but this does not mean the the problem is fixed. your console is still broken and needs repairing. Send it in to MS and they'll send you a new one.

On the subject of the new Xbox Pros and the Elites. The Xbox Pro out now is still 20Gb but is HDMI capable, and has the chip inside to reduce the chance of RROD. With the recent price drop they're only $299 to boot!

The Elite is still $450 for a 120gb, HDMI capable and less chance of RROD but still has just about as much chance [imo] as an older Xbox.

The new Pros shipping out August 4th will be 60Gb, HDMI capable and will so far have the least chance of getting the RROD, but if they do the MS 3 year warranty will still apply.

The Elite is the def choice. You should go for it.
