No, you shouldn't get it. I have it, but I also have live, so its pretty fun, but if you don't have live you'll regret it after you finish the game in 5 hours and have nothing else to do. If you want a realistic shooter, wait for other singleplayer based games to come out.
Sorry for double post, but you should buy Gears for singleplayer. The multiplayer isn't that good compared to other games (Halo 3), but the singleplayer is pretty good so go for it.

i've tried the orange box and liked it, but it seemed a little slow paced. maybe that was just the beggining of it. i just put up another forum asking for help for how to wirelessly set up xbox live because i had no idea how when i tried a while ago. but yeah.....
