[QUOTE="teebeenz"]Rockstar said they had several issues, While on the PS3 they get 50gigs of disk storage, 100% chance of an HD, on the 360 they get neither of those things. It has already been determined that the mechanics of the PS3 makes it harder to develop for but get this, they will overcome much to make money, people have been doing it for thousands of years.

You seriously think any major developer is going to write off the millions of 360 consoles because a small percentage of them are lacking a hard drive? Glad you arent running my company...

you really need to learn the difference between a hard drive and a storage format before posting again.

I know the difference I write software for a living, nice try at being cute though.

then I feel sorry for the software you write if you think that 50GB from a disc are going to be loaded to a HDD on a game console.

[QUOTE="eclipsed4utoo"] how much is the guitar for Guitar Hero? how much is a 20GB HDD(or 120GB HDD)? I rest my case. I don't know of many people that are going to spend $160+ on one game($60 game, $100 HDD) tkemory

If you can read, they would have to lower the cost of the HD attachment to bring it in line with the cost of a game like Guitar Hero. They co do it with a rebate so they dont have to hard package the two together. You really are an idiot.

I cant tell you how many times I have read people say I bought xxx console for xxx game. So obviously people will pay 160$ + for a single game.

you still didn't answer the question.  If I wanted to buy the Guitar for Guitar Hero, how much would it cost?

and that was a very mature response with the name calling.

and buying a console for one game is different from paying $160 for one game.  When you buy a console for one game, you still have the option of buying other games that have already come out or others that may be coming out in the future.

many fanboys state that GTA was the reason that the PS2 had so many sales.  People bought a PS2 just for GTA.  My question, was GTA the ONLY game they ever bought for their PS2?  I doubt it.

You have to call them like you see them, you also seem lazy since you cant look up how much Guitar Hero with a guitar cost (90$).  The point is and I will use small words so you can understand since you keep beating this point to death...

You lower the cost of the accessory for people that buy the game to bring it in line with what people are willing to pay for a single game.  I know how much the HD cost normally, you have to lower the cost.  Once again in case you arent understanding, you have to lower the cost for the people that own a core.

First of all a single sided BLU-RAY disk is only 25gig, I dont think they have ever mass produced the double sided kind yet so using 50gig is ridiculous.

Second of all, if a game like Oblivion can fit on a single DVD9, What is wrong with  Rockstar that they cant put a game out with half the graphics on a DVD9?  You have got to be kidding me...

Feel sorry all you want, you seem to forget a little thing called compression.  Microsoft has said time and again if developers utilize compression properly, DVD9 is more than enough room for any game.

True colors show PS3 fan boi, first of all I bought my Elite and launch and it never broke.  I recently upgraded to an Elite because I have been so happy with my 360 but wanted the better upscaling because I use it for movies.

You must be mad because you system has zero games, crappy online play and has zero innovation.  I am happy with my console how about you.  You are such a troll that you have to stir up crap over something that is a non-issue.

Right...

you should turn signatures on so you could read mine.  I have no reason to lie.  I don't own a PS3.  not enough games right now, and I have other bigger expenses.  I have a 360 and play it just about daily.  And I pay $50 for Live.

I'd like to see some statitistics on the percentage of Core users compared to the entire X360 install base.  Perfect Dark and Donkey Kong on the N64 both required the RAM expansion pack, and each were pretty successful games.  I realize that the price point is quite different for the HDD, but then again, everything is more expensive now. Look at GTA IV as a great opportunity to convince everyone to get a HDD and finally make it pseuod-standard.  What better game to convince people to do that than GTA IV?

And even if they don't, there are other equalizations between the two consoles.  It is an established fact that the Blu-ray drive in the PS3 reads slower than the X360 DVD drive, which would further equalize the advantages of each console.  You can say the PS3 "can" cache to HDD, which sounds great, or you can say the PS3 "has" to cache to its HDD, which sounds a lot like a disadvantage.

As for the system memory issues for the two consoles...It's best not to even comment on these things unless you personally have expertise with game console design and development.  From what I've heard from developers without necessary allegiance, neither can honestly be called superior when everything is taken into account, theoretical performance and efficacy tend to balance each other out.

All I can really say is that there had to be some reason why Rockstar chose the X360 version to render their announcement trailer.  Beyond that, who knows?  Regardless, isn't it hilarious that we're discussing the graphical performance of a Grand Theft Auto game as though it has ever been vital to the series?  Millions upon millions bought GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas on the PS2, and they all looked horrible.  The Xbox versions looked a bit better when they were released later but, for some reason, the cheaper console with the greater install base made the most sales.

[QUOTE="topmanhugo"]i agree, i will feel very disapointed if the ps3 version is superior to the x360 version jst because of the core that's unfair for premium and elite owners.RabbidDawg

Exactly. If the core is hindering the process, then R* needs to just dev for it like evryone has an HDD and just put a stamp on the back of the game box saying that an HDD is required to play this game. There are a lot of poeple who will be upset if the 360 version is inferior all because of something like this, and I will be one of them.

What out of 11 million 360 owners Id say at least 9 million probably have HDDs, and at least half a million probably have a PS3 and 360 and if its better on the PS3, which version do you think that they will buy? GTA is a system seller believe it or not, and the system its better on is gonna sell more. Im not going by any factual numbers just giving a rough example of how it could turn out.

The last thing I would want to think is that now devs are finding a bottleneck on the 360 because not all 360s have an HDD. An HDD can be used for gamings benefit, and really the 360 sucks with out one, so hopefully the core wil go bye bye soon.

GTA is definitely a system seller. I bought my PS2 just to get GTA3 (it wasn't on PC at the time)... really, it's the game that brought me back to console gaming after I abandoned it when the PS1 and N64 started to peter out.

MS has already stated that some games will require the HDD to work, didn't they? Wasn't that something they were talking about before where you'd start seeing that on games? I mean, FFXI already requires it, I don't see what the problem is.

I think R* just wants something to complain about. Why can Oblivion fit on a DVD, but GTA IV can't? Give me a break, R*. Your job is to use the capabilities of a system to make games. Do your job.

[QUOTE="eclipsed4utoo"]then I feel sorry for the software you write if you think that 50GB from a disc are going to be loaded to a HDD on a game console. tkemory

I too feel sorry for the codes you write. If you still think that a single layer BD is only 25 gigs, my my, whats going to be of us in the future

Right...

He's a PS3 fanboy that doesn't own one yet own a 360 can does nothing but bash it all the time. Sony fanboys are just looking for anything they can right now. It's not like it matters or change the game. The game is still going to be the same and frankly the GTA series is tired and warn out. Let the Sony fanboys talk......they have nothing else to say really.

[QUOTE="teebeenz"][QUOTE="monco59"]They also said they had several problems with the PS3. Each had their "pleasures and pains" as the man put it.tkemory

Oh Im sure they did, netcode issues, getting a few threads working right, but with the PS3 they got 6months to fix, on the 360... the issues cant be fixed. Not unless MS wants to redo every single console and do a total recall.

Think! If its that important that they have a HD, they can print "Game requires HD on the side of the box", and guess what a HD can be bought and added to a Core, so the problem can be fixed. Ever heard of Guitar Hero? People will by accessories to play a game, this has to be the dumbest argument I have ever read. Troll elsewhere please...

Exactly! He's actually saying in order for MS to fix the issue, they need to recall all consoles. WHY? You only need to add a HDD, it's not a matter of recalls. You've got about 5 second to mosey on out of here before I grab my trusty pitchfork and go troll hunting.

I feel sorry for anything you do since you obviously dont research before you open your mouth.

From Wikipedia

The name Blu-ray Disc is derived from the blue-violet laser used to read and write this type of disc. Because of its shorter wavelength (405 nm), substantially more data can be stored on a Blu-ray Disc than on the DVD format, which uses a red, 650 nm laser. A single layer Blu-ray Disc can store 25 GB, over 5 times the size of a single layer DVD at 4.7GB. A dual layer Blu-ray Disc can store 50 GB, almost 6 times the size of a dual layer DVD at 8.5GB.

im confused - this shouldn't be a problem. the whole point with the GTA series was that the environment is streamed from the disk into memory as required.

were there any load times between areas in san andreas? No

did the ps2 have a hard drive? No

was the xbox version of san andreas superior to the ps2 version due to it having a hard drive? No

The PS3 has 256MB of main RAM, compared to the 360s 512MB. Maybe this is why the PS3 needs to cache data on the hard drive rather streaming directly to RAM.

This whole thing has been blown out of all proportion...

eclipsed4utoo

the GPU on the PS3 has access to all 512MB of RAM.

Wrong again Mr. Fanboy. The PS3 has a limited amount of ram for it's GPU and CPU.

[QUOTE="teebeenz"]Rockstar said they had several issues, While on the PS3 they get 50gigs of disk storage, 100% chance of an HD, on the 360 they get neither of those things. Common, how many times have we seen people warn of this, how many times have people said DVD9 isnt enough. If this is 18months in, makes me wonder if any big franchise will stay round on the 360 at all.monco59

I have a 120gig driver, Id be damned if Im giving 50gigs of it to any one game. Ridiculous they would need that much.

You're missing the point. So far we have yet to see anything that justifies the use of Blu-ray, and I doubt we will during this generation. MS is the clear leader in compression technology, which is the most important facet right now. All you need is to look at Bethesda and Bioware. Are they complaining about the lack of HD-DVD or Blu-ray? No, because they actually know how to make a game and compress it properly when needed... So it seems yo're the one who needs to do a little "learning".

"so far we have yet to see anything that justifies the use..".  the same can be said about alot.  Microsoft said the same about HDMI and 1080p.  but yet, now they have released updates to allow 1080p and released an entirely new console for HDMI.

what I am getting at is, just because we don't need it NOW, doesn't mean we will not need it in the next couple of years.  Show me one third party developer who states that blu-ray is a bad thing.  You will not find any.  Every developer has stated that they are excited about using blu-ray.

why would a company that is in a contractual deal for an exclusive title, talk bad about the only console their game is going to be on?  that would be utterly stupid.

isn't the term "fanboy" defined as somebody who blindly follows one company and hates the competitors?  but I guess by your definition, anybody who has something good to say about the PS3 is a PS3 fanboy and anybody who has something bad to say about the 360 is also a PS3 fanboy.  or maybe I am a PS3 fanboy because I like the PS3?  if that's the case, then you could be called a fanboy for liking the 360...and everybody on this forum would be fanboys for the console that they PREFER.

As for the justifies bluray, there is already games into the 18+ gigs. MS doesnt lead compression, IBM does. By Bethsda ill assume you mean oblivion, hardly relivant. Oblivion was a game that had a large area, with the same set of textures and objects. There is nothing there to take up alot of space except the terrain data. Same trees, same grass, same voices, same objects. Every game since the 80s has been compressed, its not an issue. If you see a games size you dont need to wonder either way. And the recall would be to actualy fix the issues so they dont break and to add a proper HDDVD drive to stop all this nonsense.

to add, game sizes from the PS1 to PS2 generation increased by over 500%.  why wouldn't the same happen now?  even a 100% increase would put alot of games over 9GB.

also, what's the difference of moving for cartidges to CDs, CDs to DVDs, and DVDs to blu-ray?  that same was said about the previous two formats not being needed for games.  now look at them.

EDIT: and just to be more precise, its not Hydrogen as fuel, but as batteries, Toyota is already producing vans using them and they can go at pretty nice speeds.

[QUOTE="kenshinhimura16"]I too feel sorry for the codes you write. If you still think that a single layer BD is only 25 gigs, my my, whats going to be of us in the future eclipsed4utoo

A dual layer Blu-ray Disc can store 50 GB, almost 6 times the size of a dual layer DVD at 8.5GB.

maybe you need to do more research..

http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/storage/display/20060831225504.html

and just to clarify, Wikipedia isn't a source for information. it can be changed by anybody. I could go to the page about blu-ray and change it to say 400GB per layer.

Did you miss the giant words at the top that read PROTOTYPE, we are talking about disc that are currently being produced and holding content and sold in the stores. My research is just fine.

They have cars that run on water but you dont see anyone mass producing them...

You do know that there are no cars that run on "water"? They are HYDROGEN cars. And no, hydrogen and water are not the same. And yes, they are being mass-produced.

and yes, at the time of that article, it was a prototype, but the blu-ray association is readying it for production.

Thats right, they are Hydrogen cars, and they are really popular now in Japan, and are slowly replacing fossil fuel cars over there.

And, Kojima putted MGS 4 on hold just to place it on a single layer 50 gigs disk. And in fact, he said he may even need 2

The fact that you used Wiki just shows how little ways of research you know. where did you thought all the jokes about 10 disk mgs 4 360 version came from? A talking cake?

EDIT: and just to be more precise, its not Hydrogen as fuel, but as batteries, Toyota is already producing vans using them and they can go at pretty nice speeds.

you are talking about electric cars. There are electric cars, then there are hydrogen cars.

They managed to make it work on the vastly inferior PS2 in the last generation. They will make it work here.

[QUOTE="Crystal-Rush"]who knows why, but im just sick of hearing crap from Sony fanboys about it (not that im calling you one). Maybe R* are not as skilled at dealing with the issue as Bethesda was with Oblivion
familyguyvs360
Stop crying about GTA not being done like Oblivion, these are two totally different games with totally different things going on in the game! Since when does Oblivion have lots of Debree, people, cars, explosions, etc... Happening all at once...Oh Wait it doesn't. Just deal with the fact that it's washed down because of the DVD-9 and get on with your lives!!! Go play games or something instead of complaining, this is no ones fault but MS for making you have the CHOICE! Remember!

Oblivion is an open ended game just like GTA. It doesn't matter if GTA will or wont have more effects than oblivion that would justify its format. Oblivion still looks better anyway and Bethesda never found an issue when dealing with/without HDD caching...people like you need to relax and stop taking games so seriously (this isnt politics)...personally i dont care how GTA turns out, i will judge it for myself when it comes rather than nitpick at stupid crap and avoid hearing crap come out of peoples mouths like you

This threads funny. Here is some questions for everyone thats so worried about the 360 version. What console did rockstar use to show off the game? To date what console has higher install base equalling more users buying that version of the game equalling devs showing a little more love to? To date what console has the better looking games when compairing Multiplatform titles (opinionated question but based on comparisions I say 360)? The bottem line to all of this though is doesn't even effect most of us cause we have a hard drive. Oblivion cached files to the HD if you had one and didn't if you didn't have one. As a result oblivion had to load a little more if you didn't have a HD, I imagine it will be the same with GTA but rather than loading it will be a little more apparent pop in. This is all a big over reaction, every one give a big hand to the fanboys.

Wow no i didnt, i said no one is mass producing them, just like the 200gig blu-ray disk, work in progress.  Until one is on the shelf its just that a prototype.

I dont understand why GTA will need more than 8 gigs of space anyway, most of the time a game takes up alot of space its because of textures not functionality.  No one can dispute that GTA games are never cutting edge on the graphics side, this whole argument is just silly and fodder for the PS3 trolls.

after all, R*'s first trailer as we all seen was published as the X360 version, so i wouldn't be surprised if they started on that version first (if there is 2 versions coming out) if not, then it'll just be a x360 port to ps3...like someone said earlier..both consules are going to have their ups and downs...and one huge UP for 360 is going to be online play if it does decide to go MMORPG...so yeh..that's life

So from tha we take it youve not seen the trailer, we can also take it you think PCs shouldnt need more than 640k of ram and there is room for 5 computers in the world. And no its not going MMO.
