Hard to say overall epicness is Half-life but the multiplayer of the Halo series has given me a lot more playtime and loads of fun with friends. I'll say both equally too.craigalan23Yea Half Life has an amazing story while Halo has an amazing multiplayer experiance
Halo has awsome multipalyer pretty good story, you can play on it forever because of Xboxlive and forge
I'm gonna go with Halo 3.
I haven't played Half Life before

Wow you need to buy The orange box it's great and Half-life's an amazing series. You should try it out sometime.
Half Life easily. Halo: CE had a pretty good single player and had the best MP maps (in my opinion), but Halo 2 and 3 just weren't....great.
The Half Life series, meanwhile, has an epic story-line, intelligent A.I., realistic setting and characters, etc. So it easily wins in my book.
Halo CE was amazing when it came out, it revolutionized the FPS are played on consoles. Half-Life did the same for PC. As franchises they are both equal aswell.
But Half-Life has consistency, where as Halo 2 & 3 missed out because of their story. Half-Life doesn't have multiplayer, but Halo has an amazing online community and experience.
Gameplay, Half-Life is varied there's a whole lot of action but can be slowed right down because of its puzzles, which is what holds it back for me. There's all this action then all of a sudden the mood gets killed by the sudden transistion to the puzzles. I don't mind the puzzles but they can be frustrating.
Halo's gameply is consistent, and always fast with a variety of ways to complete a mission, and you can have fun with 3 other mates at the same time, and it always different.
Half-Life to me is very narrow and you can only play it once to feel the full aspect of it, but Halo you can enjoy over and over.
Halo wins...narrowly.
Half life = The best single player experience you can get from a first-person shooter but no multiplayer
Halo = very weak single player but some of the best multiplayer you can get from any game ever.
my choice = Half-life , because it is the only one that i am anticipating a sequel to
I suspect the people saying half life is slow and boring have never actualy played the series, let alone since it launched and all the spinoffs etc. It's literaly one of the best FPS series of all time. Halo is just a sub par shooter, built on the console but born out of so many other peoples ideas. It innovates nothing. Play Half-Life (the entire series). End of story.kieran88
that's not a fair thing to say just because they have a differing opinion to you, and I have to say that Halo may not have revolutionized the genre but it did bring in some important gaming mechanics that have been copied in countless other games like regenerating health and being forced to hold only a few weapons

I never said it was a bad game, and that it's wrong to like it. But to even compare it, as a game (forget the hype, sales and let's face it amazing marketing) halo doesn't and can't come close to half life as an important game. Sooner or later, halo would of happened on the consoles, it's a simple game. Game like half life, in my opinion, take some special to make. They reinvented the series again , succesfuly, with half life 2 a feat bungie failed to pull off with halo 2 and 3. To say it has no multiplayer is also pretty rediculous, as on the pc you have half-life 1 & 2 deathmatch, counterstrike, day of defeat, team fortress 1 & 2... Strictly not on the one game, addmitedly. But counterstrike was my main argument for that.
In short - You had to have been there.
Obviously Half-Life. A Classic, The Orange Box will provide you with more entertainment & longer hours :)
Half-Life.
That's not to say I don't like Halo, but Half-Life has always been my favourite franchise, ever since I played the first game.
Amazingly told story, great gameplay (puzzles mixed with shooting), AI from 1998 that rivals most games today, some fun multiplayer, and easy to use mod tools. That's just for the first game...
Half-Life 2 has, again; an amazingly told story and fantastic universe surrounding it, great gameplay, superb visuals and physics engine, some fun multiplayer and some easy to use mod tools. Not to mention some amazing characters and voice acting.
Halo is fun, but it isn't in the same league as Half-Life, IMO.
Halo IMO, has; a good story (but you have to look outside the game to get the most of it. nothing wrong with that, it's a good universe to look into), solid gameplay (run and gun mixed with vehicle combat), intelligent enemy AI, great multiplayer.
But one thing; Regenerating Health. Ugh...
Valve have got the right idea, in that they don't use it.
