Half-Life is better than Halo and COD.

[QUOTE="BLAS1AN"][QUOTE="ceells87"] actually halo only made microsofts game division mainstream and did very little for gaming as a whole. Mario, zelda, metroid, final fantasy, doom, half-life, and plenty of others actually did something for gaming. and it didnt make it less frowned upon, it actually made the whole "videogames make kids violent" arguement rise to full steam. just sayinceells87
halo did nothing for gaming? the original halos' controls, co-op play and system link features sparked a boom for console FPS. halo was the first in console FPS that allowed you to play campaign co-op. what other console fps allowed one player to drive while the other shoots. notice how many console games followed this formula?
see genuis thats why I put very little done, not didnt do anything. Its obvious FPS's are what they are on consoles thanks to Halo, but that doesnt mean it did amazing things for the gaming industry. It helped spur one portion of gaming into full drive. And last I checked mainly only FPS games let you use that formula. Now go count how many games have come out from Halo's release and tell me how many use that formula. And gow117, I dont hate Halo, i nothing it. I dont care for it, played it and now dont play it, and could care less how many people hate or love it. Hell i play very little FPS anyways. So you need to start thinking about the numerous other reasons people are going to disagree with you other than "they just like to hate it". But your right, no one can deny it had some influence, but you also cant deny how little over all it had for the industry as a whole.so genius ....what good is it to say Bungie did "very little"to contribute to the gaming world. ANY contribution to the gaming world is a plus and should be noticed...period. There are thousands of games that contribute absolutely nothing to gaming yet you want to point out Halo doing "very little". Mario, FF and Zelda are not FPS so no need to bring them into this.
sticky grenades, split screen fps co-op and the buddy party system online? yeah bungie did that first.
halo is the best fps ever... if you never touched any other fps... for non console fps... what about the unreal series, those games did so much for online multiplayer gaming its insane, if you want best fps period, the campain in half life series is where its at, if you want a realistic, AMAZING looking game with great weapon balance, and superb online community, go with cod 4 and 5, but if you like cheesey games that are geared towards 16 yr olds with down syndrome halo is your best bet
halo is, and always will be better than the cod series, don't kid yourselves guys.
Carnifex726
Halo has good co-op (the final warthog scene with my friend was so fun screaming over our mics)
But cod4 is just better multiplayer and single player i most of peoples opinions.
halos multiplayer is better without a doubt. also the campaigns in cod only last around 5 hours on average, there a joke.

well i pointed it out because well.....this is a topic about Halo, imagine that. And there are thousands of games that havent contributed suat, but we're talking about a very specific one now arent we. As for those other games they can be noted because they have contributed to the gaming industry and the genres in which they belong greatly. And we were talking about gaming in general for that part so they can be mentioned when concerned with contributing to the industry, unless you just want to start takling about FPS in general, in which case you already have my response concerning that and the contributions Halo has given it. as for the sticky grenades, splitscreen and buddy party......why bring that up. If you were trying to "put me straight" as you so bodly claimed, all you did was mention a few things they did first and have contributed to the FPS genre. Now take some time and think of more because they did do more then come back and list them all. If you need any help just ask me, i'd be happy to point them out to you.Yeah counter strike was the longest game ever.
Played it so much. Multiplayer never gets boring because thats what its made for.
But anyways half life 2> Cod4> Piece of poop> Halo 3
*FLAMESHIEEEELLLLD*
lol i totally agree dude, counterstrike is one of the few perfect multiplayer games every created. And no need for the flameshield, the worst i've come across here so far were able to only sputter out a few little embers around my ankles, nothing a good swat wouldnt put out.Hahaha, and what makes your opinion so special? I love how people like to pass their own opinions off as fact. For all you know I think CoD 1,2,3,4 and 5 are all better than Halo 1,2 and 3; which would make, from my point of view, Call of Duty the better series. Respect OTHER PEOPLES OPINIONS!
Which is more polarizing? The line between Democrats and Republicans or the one between Halo and COD fanboys?DJ_MagnetoThe division between Halo and COD is only polarizing to nerd fanboys on internet forums. Most people who play shooters on X360 play both.

Exactly. But the topics certainly are fun to watch :) And personally, I play both, prefer Halo 3, but will be buying MW2 over ODST...
your too old for halo right? you have matured past how 'childish' it is? give me a break, usually people who have this view that somehow games rate maturity and intelligence, are the most immature and least intelligent of us all. Seriously how can you use a game as a personality indicator.halo is the best fps ever... if you never touched any other fps... for non console fps... what about the unreal series, those games did so much for online multiplayer gaming its insane, if you want best fps period, the campain in half life series is where its at, if you want a realistic, AMAZING looking game with great weapon balance, and superb online community, go with cod 4 and 5, but if you like cheesey games that are geared towards 16 yr olds with down syndrome halo is your best bet

ceells87 you said u play FPS very rarely, so why should anyone care what you think about a FPS? You said it yourself, your lacking experience in that genre, so most of your arguments would be immaterial when concerned with a FPSchaoscougar1on the contrary, i said I rarely play them not that i dont have much experiance with them. I've played doom to halo 3 and COD4, hell i used to play the hell out of Rainbow SIx Vegas with a good group of people. But i dont anymore, hence my phrase "very rarely". what is it with you people and mixing up a phrase to fit your own interpretation. its like your taking the obvious definition of a word and then going to the utmost extreme of it because it fits you better
okay people listen all fps games are the same.you kill your opponents with a weapon, you go to next stage.rinse and repeat.i've played them all and once you get through their stories they're all the same.each one has it's pros and cons,so to all the halo fanboys and halo haters....stop whining!!!!!get a life, get a girlfriend(or boyfriend i wont judge).heck get a hobby something.
Halo was good, Halo 2 had great online play but a terribly short campaign, and Halo 3 wasn't much of an improvement. I have both Halo 3 and COD4, and I can tell you that I've played much more COD4 than Halo 3. COD 4 doesn't have the same pick up and play quality of Halo 3, but its a much better game in m opinion. I think it has one of the most entertaining and well-varied single player campaigns, especially for an FPS. Plus, the online play is amazingly fun if you take the time to practice a bit.
I half agree with u, m8. Halo IS b3tr than CoD 1, 2, 3, and 4, but CoD 5 is definatley tied up with Halo.Halo is just better than Cod 2,3,4,5. That should be known to everybody, not just Mircosoft fans. Halo is the reason Xbox 360(and Xbox) are popular gaming systems. I am saying this because I want to set things straight to everyone who thinks Cod 4 is better or any other Fps game out there. respect HALO. period

I used to love Halo but I got tired of it because everyone just throws grenades and runs away so i just stopped.
Urban Dictionary:
1. grenade spam - tossing grenades randomly, hoping to get a kill.
tossing grenades repeatedly at a certain area. "don't go in the grav lifts or the corners. this map is practically designed for grenade spam."
2. Grenade spam - The act of tossing a as many grenades as possible into the opposing teams area in an online game, in order to get kills. "****ink grenade spam 5th **** spawn in row mother****er kick his *** ***** ****"
Chevy, Ford, Honda who cares as long as they run, and My point is who cares, The main thing is we have some great games to play and more to come. Period...
Didn't we have a COD fanboy claiming the exact kind of same stuff yesterday? Why can't all this crap just go some where else, like system wars.vashkey
Because if life made sense then the Halo vs Cod war would not exist. Just children (and adults who failed to properly mature) venting about a non-important issue they know little about.
Why do people seem to think they have to choose in the first place, I myself enjoy both series. It is apples and oranges each game is in a different sub-genre of shooters to begin with. Each game offers different things to different people, just accept that your camp (whether Halo, Cod or in-between) has a different opinion then the other side(s). It is not like your game will cease to exist if you suddenly stop belittling the other side.
I would agree... Bungie did everything right.. Perfect matchmaking, perfect ranking system, perfect balance.
Nothing real about CoD lets get that out there right now..Well my friend, I really do love halo, but I also really love Call of Duty. I think they are both amazing FPS's but in their own way. They are different, Halo is more sci-fi, whereas CoD is more modern and realistic.

Halo is one of my most favorite games *puts up flameshield*. Call of Duty is awesome too but i never got into the "Call of Duty Convert" craze like others have.
I used to love Halo but I got tired of it because everyone just throws grenades and runs away so i just stopped.

Call of Duty's Grenade Spam is much worse.
That makes no sense.. No one spams grenades in Halo, you use grenades to weaking enemies.. And running away? So basically you hate people that actually play smart and no one toget to cover when shields are low?I used to love Halo but I got tired of it because everyone just throws grenades and runs away so i just stopped.

ya because cod4 makes you soooo mature :roll:wow... anyone who can seriously say halo is the best fps either A: has never played CoD 4 & 5, or my personal fave orange box, because the HL2 series rocks and is by far the best fps even without multiplayer, B: is under the age of 16 because by then your gaming taste should have matured beyond dated fps that were cool on xbox original but same game reskined years later is like drinking milk that expired 2 months ago, just makes me sick and leaves a sour funk in my mouth, or C: just wants to get flamed and in that case, you must not be of the maturity level of a 16 yr old.

How has this topic lasted this long? Shouldnt this be in System Wars. I read a bit but not all 14 pages :P

I play a lot of Halo 3, I've played casually with similarly casual players, I've played hardcore with similarly hardcore players. I've seen the best play, I've seen the worst fumble Stickies. I think I have the ability to give an accurate opinion.
Halo:CE brought a boom into the FPS genre like it was nobody's business. Bungie had a good thing, a 'pure' FPS, nothing special, nothing revolutionary. It was the First PErson experience boiled down to a form of balance between simplicity and complexity.
Easy to learn, Hard to master. this phrase is something fans could note Bungie strives to maintain.
Halo 2 did more for the original formula, again, it did NOTHING revolutionary, it simply brought to the players a form of FPS that was literally undiluted. You are red, kill blue, these are the guns you can use to make it so.
Now, I get to Halo 3.
Halo 3 is mediocrity in motion. It is nearly identical to Halo 2, with weapon tweaks and different versions of older weapons allowing for more variation in the explosions and such. Pretending a few weapon additions is 'OMFG GotY ALL YEARS!' worthy is completely stupid.
Again, the third installment brought nothing edgy or new to the table. It did nothing that hasn't been done before. It just delivered more moon bouncing, aim assisting, frag spamming goodness to the vast expanse of XBL.
You zealous and loyal Halo fans will say foolish things like "HALO INVENTED STICKY GRENADES", but I am afraid that award goes to the Japanese in WW2. I know you will argue "IT INVENTED ITS CONTROLS" but that is a pathetic argument, those controls would have been used in a game eventually, Halo picked up on them because that was the idea at the time that worked out.
Halo is a great series, likewise, Halo 3 is a great game. To pretend however that it is in any way immortal or 'the best ever made' is quite stupid. Better will happen.
For instance, CoD:MW2 is going to be better then Halo 3 when it comes to online play. Why? Because it is part of a newer wave of FPS, it has the entirety of the CoD4 experience to draw on. the collective complaints of the players, the data, all the lessons learned. So, it will come out a new, polished beast that is superior to its predecessor and all that competed with it from its time. This means Halo 3.
And example of an edge that MW2 has is a a system allowing very speedy and convenient host migration. If the guy with host ragequits, instead of going to black screen, running the risk of getting lag-fragged if you are the last with host communication, the screen dims a bit, it tells the people in-game who has host and the game continues as if everyone had simultaneously paused. This is an edge Halo 3 does not have. One of what appears to be MANY simple technical edges.
You cannot argue that a game that literally strives to be the ultimate in basic gameplay is better then games of the genre that are built to push the genre forward.
Halo will keep FPS popular, sure, but it has never and probably will never introduce anything that will CHANGE anything. Hell, even Forge-mode has been done by other games first. Timesplitters had a map-maker that was easily a hundred times more creative.
