The singleplayer was actually a huge letdown in my opinion, the story felt so rushed and I felt no tie to the characters, except for SPOILER ALERT the scene after the credits where noble six fights off the elites but is pummeled in the end. Perhaps it is because I played it on Legendary and was more focused on strategy, it was not that hard though, or the fact that I kind of rushed through it, I don't know... it just didn't appeal to me.

You're not going to get a good sense of the narrative if you just rush through it trying to get to the end.
So instead of just gaming the game and going for the pure mechanical challenge of it, sit back and enjoy the story.
I really liked it. The characters really did have personalities and motivations, Kat being my fave. Don't just focus on strategy. Pull back that focus a bit and allow yourself to recognize everything else.
I know exactly what you mean. There are moments in the campaign, in the first level especially, where you can be part of the story. Sometimes they even space out the members of Noble 6 to give you an "obvious" spot to stand in and take in the story. Moments like when you investigate the first signs of battle, or when you find the civilians hiding in their house or when you find the dead tortured soldiers. There's dialog going on there. I know a lot of people will just sprint through and not pay attention to what is actually happening or skip the cutscenes. I know this is not Oscar worthy story telling here, but if you don't stop to look around and take in your environment and listen to what the other characters are talking about, you're basically just playing firefight.Fellow pinoy speaks the truth.
And it applies to many games with some semblance of a story. Especailly in shooters, it's almost instinctual to rush through a game to shoot everything in sight as if you're playing multiplayer. It's ok in games like Left 4 Dead. Multiplayer, go for it. There's very little by way of narrative in those cases. But for titles like Halo or Killzone or or Gears or Resistance, you're cheating yourself if you don't ratchet down the hyper fragfest mentality and just let the game's natural pacing guide you through.
It's not a race, it's a balance.
