A lot of people were commenting how they would like to be able to select indivdual unit types in Halo Wars. I posted this in the Halo Wars Impression thread, but It was buried at the bottom of the post.

Just to let everyone know: you CAN select individual unit types. Whenever you have a group of units selected, at the bottom of the screen you will see all the unit types that comprisie it. Just hit RT to cycle through them to select the unit type you want. This works great for sending just infantry through shields, or more importantly, using individual unit's special abilities. You select a focus fire target and hit Y>RT>Y>RT>Y>RT etc. What this does is spam each individual units special on a dangerous target to down it quickly. As long as you reasearch the specials, it's amazing.

Plus, you can easily seperate large groups of troops into armies buy either using the paint tool, the unit selector, or by putting some distance between groups and hitting RB for "local units" (this selects all units visible on screen). Once you have your armies seperated, hit down (might be left) on the d-pad to cycle between your "armies". This method works really well, you can move many different armies in different directions with ease.

Far and away, this is the best console RTS I've ever played. I played tons of SC and the WC series in my life, so please don't bark up that tree. YES: Halo Wars is a simplified RTS, but the most important thing is, it's fun. I really enjoyed it and will be picking it up on March 3rd.

For someone like me (a casual RTS player), Halo Wars is the perfect blend of simplicity and strategy.

I have to say, I haven't liked the Halo series since Halo 2. But I'm probably gonna get this game.

I actually liked the demo and the only RTS I've ever liked was Empire earth (Oh damn we used to have some killer 6 man wars that lasted days on XXL maps) I miss those days :( Back on topic this might be a day 1 purchase my only complaint those is you cant zoom in that far. I mean on empire earth you could zoom in all the way and that was back in like 2000. The base building is very easy and the number of slots on the base structure makes it easier to manage bases. Resources management is super easy to seems like this is going to be a more combat focused game.

As it should be. It would be boring as hell to focus on resources and stuff like that. I think Halo Wars is meant to be a faster paced RTS than others out there. At least, that was the impression I got from the demo.
