What is really going to sell the game the most is the releasing of the Mythic maps. People who want them before the Marketplace will dish out the $60.00. You pay 800-1100 points for it so that is 12.50-24.00 in points you are spending for the maps. So if you want to look at it that way your really paying 40-50 for the "alright" game and the rest just to have the maps.PrincePwnStar
I really doubt people are going to pay eighty dollars just for the Mythic maps. As for "alright" I guess if you choose to ignore the reviews that say it's good...

[QUOTE="wartutheshid"][QUOTE="RockysCatnipCo"]Have you even played an RTS game before this? All Halo Wars is, is a stripped down RTS for casuals meant to make money off of all the blind Halo fanboys.RockysCatnipCo

and the fanboy has spoken, your so naive. I have never even played halo. I love the age of empires series. And this game does great on a console. THATS the point.

Naive PC fanboy .

If I were a PC fanboy why would I be on here? Why would I have my gamertag in my sig? I find it hard to believe that you have never played Halo. I'm not just speaking of PC RTS games that have been way better, but also the ones for 360 like C&C3 and Battle for Middle Earth.

o i thought u called me a halo fanboy. I don't like the halo series to much, i am trying to play the first one but it is to boring. Battle for middle earth 2 is a good game on the PC, idk about 360 though. It's that since there aren't a lot of RTS on 360, Halo wars took the challenge to create an easy to use RTS on 360. And they shouldn't be comparing to PC games, like Age of Empires.

I dunno, it seems that this guy was expecting AoE, but with a controller. His pros and cons make sense, but I don't see how it stacks up to a 6.5 rating. Even the awards are wrong. The game is short, but still sucks you in and you get lost in it? Is that even possible?

cmontyx49

It's very possible...the game can suck you in for the short period of time it lasts (i.e. Portal sucks you in even though it's incredibly short), or you could get lost in the MP component of the game

[QUOTE="RockysCatnipCo"]Playing as the flood would be just like playing as any other faction. Alternate reality? How about multiple endings? :roll:RockysCatnipCo

How about no.

All other reviewers gave it good scores but gamespot ended up pulling a random.

I've played a lot of RTS games, and enjoy them all, from the complex ones, to the simple ones. I'm yet to play the demo, but from watching my friend play, it seemed like a very well put together game.

Didn't Portal get HUGE amounts of praise, yet it was short, and has no multiplayer (obviously)

Welcome to the internet where everything from Valve is gold and anything with Halo in the title is over rated. It's pretty ridiculous.

I'm really surprised that it got that score. I had a feeling it wouldn't be a 9.0 game but 6.5 seems a bit low to me. I played the demo and I found it quite enjoyable. I also saw IGN's score and it gave it a 8.4. I guess everyone has their own opinions. I still plan to get the game despite the review.

That review is total BS. I'm a hardcore RTS player and Halo Wars won me over. I loved the demo. I don't even like Halo that much.

So I just saw the GS review and its a surprising 6.5, I am a big Halo fan but I might have to cancel my preorder now but Im not sure

What do you guys think?

Dilan120
Different genres? :? Anyway, the UK guys seem to hate higher standards to GS' already high standards. If you liked the demo, then go for it.

And a couple of weeks ago i wrote in a previous topic that i'd be laughing when the halo fans suddenly realized that RTS games are something very different from the original halo games:P

Portal deserved the praise because it was: 1. Innovative 2. Funny with a great storyline packed into its shortness 3. (This one is really important) It was only 20 dollars alone and otherwise came in a pack that was considered a great deal. I think number three changes a lot on how people view the game. I know if I payed a full 50 for it I would haven't have found it to be a worthy use of my money because there wasn't much to it after the initial play through other than challenging yourself with puzzles. Since it came in the orange box along with other great games, it was well worth what it was.

Well, I always thought that halo wars would score low because from the video's it just looked simple and well....kinda lame. looked like a watered down version of C&C3. I played the demo, and I have to say that I was right while at the same time being wrong. Unit selection is annoying, and the region select and select all is a good feature but at the same time I don't like using that as my main method of selecting units all the time. The graphics weren't that good, and the campaign on the demo seemed boring. Skirmish was alright, something about it kept me entertained. all the upgrades and the abilities kept me wanting to see them all. base building is alright. nothing special about it but its still good. I think 6.5 is a good score to give it, I didn't really see this getting high scores unfortunately.

As a person who has been critical throughout this games production, and critical of rts in general, i am really suprised, considering how the demo was so addicting and i loved how the controls for an rts were actually descent, and on a console game! If I had to rate the game off what the demo tells me I thought it would be either an 8.5 or a 9.
I would really like to see an american review.

the thing you have to think about with this one is that, compared to the other games in its' genre, this is a shallow RTS. In the last paragraph he says that its fun enough while t lasts, but that its a short game. If you want a great RTS, play Supreme Commander, or if you like Turn based RTS's, play a game in the Total War series. Do me a favor, buy Supreme Commander and buy Halo Wars and tell me which is the more comprehensive game. Just because you like Halo, it doesn't mean that every thing from that universe is going to be good. If anything, the fact that this studio got closed down by Microsoft should tell you that the game wasn't all that good. It surprises me because that studio has made some quality games in the past. If you want a new strategy game tat will be complex, fun, exciting and DEEP. get The new Total War game.

if your refering to me,it was a typo. also halo 3,halo 2 were both short games. they both got good scores. and the guy even said the story was immersive. wether the controls and gameplay were immersive i dont know, all i know is that im not the biggest fan of rts and to me that means its just more complicated/

I thought the review was ridiculous. If I were to sum GS's review up, this is how I'd put it.

The reviwer thinks Halo Wars is undeniably fun; has a great story; has well executed co-op; captures the feel of the Halo universe superbly; is easy to pick up; has great unit types; has varied and fun mission objectives; and has smooth controls. However, due to not being able to play as the flood and having a few minor problems, Halo Wars gets a 6.5.

Now tell me, does that sound like a good review to you? Because it seems a tad contradictory to me.

Yeah that's why I don't get it. It's like being severd a delicious sandwich but still complaining and sending it back because there was no mayo or bag of chips to go with it.

Is not having a covenant campaign and not playing the flood at all really that big a deal for people? I would have thought that people would be more upset that the flood are in the game at all. Personally I would rather play as the UNSC in the campaign, and I think they made the right choice about making the flood not playable.

So many of you are complaining about GS' review even though all you've played is the demo. Maybe the game is deserving of an 8-8.5 when it only lasts a few minutes and its free but if you like a reviewer is forced to play through a game that is obviously shallow as Halo Wars is then you are going to mark it down. And im not sure about this but I think the fact that this is a Halo game is whats causing so many sites to give it a good review. Heres why, by reading the GS review you could tell he has played RTS' before and so he is right to mark it down for a game that has essentially two commands; 1) Build huge army 2)Swamp your enemy with a massive army, whereas I think a lot of review sites will have given the game to Halo players instead of RTS players. The problem with this is that for some reason Halo players are generally the worst kind of fanboy's so much so that even in the Halo wars forum there was actually a thread there were someone believed Halo wars would be the greatest RTS ever made. And so these reviewers will mark Halo wars up because they're so thrilled by the Halo presentation and the fact that they can see skirmishes between the UNSC and the covenant.

The mythic maps only come with the limited edition. So yes, if you wernet getting the game for the game you essentially be paying eighty dollars for the mythic maps which is rather stupid considering the maps will be on the market place for ten dollars only a few weeks after Halo Wars. And just because your friends are buying it for the mythic maps doesn't mean thats why everyones buying it. Thats pretty foolish to think.

And again, I guess it's just alright it you only go by Gamespot's review.

if you like the game the n buy it. if you played the demo and complain give it a rent. rts style games arent my cup of tea but im not going to bash the game because gamespot said it wasnt good. i mean come on it was a UK review. ive heard people complain about the controls.well if your used to a keyboard for rts of course its going to be different.

another thing i dont understand is since when is a 6.5 or a 7 bad. it seems liek today that if a game gets lower than an 8 then the game is considered garbage.blue dragon got a 6 and that was a fun game.

If r going to pay 60 dollars for a game it should at least a 8.5. beside 6.5 is in other words a 65 and thats really a grade D.

You go entirely by one critic's opinion? For all gaming choices? Interesting.

IGN gave it a 9, I don't put much into gamespot's reviews, they tend to be the worst in the industry.

It doesn't matter what the reviews are, it just matter that you like the game. I am going to order it because I like it and even if the reviews were 1.0 I would still buy it.
