hard drive..

I just installed a 20 gig HD in my Xbox today and it shows that the total memory is 14 gigs and available is 9.9 gigs..Is this normal??manikrrish

If the HDD was used by somebody else, it probably has their profiles/games/downloads still stored on it. If you go to the settings tab in your Dashboard, you can go down to memory, select the HDD and format it and see if that helps you out.

did you by a new or a old one

Their is probably a bunch of videos on it for commercial use put there by Microsoft delete them and your space will most likely increase some.

I could be wrong but I think the remaining 6 are system files you need for the HDD

Yup that's it. Same with PC harddrives.

I think I will ask for a 20 Gig replacement HD or a refund..I'm sure a new HD doesn't have an existing profile..

That one you have there is used

It will be smaller once it's in use. Formatting a drive will make it smaller.

Where did you buy the HD from
