Yeah I know it's one of the more obscure games on the 360, but I thought the premise seemed interesting; a military turn-based strategy/rpg hybrid that combines actual WW2 history with quirky jrpg fantasy elements, mixing guns and tanks with dragons and zombies. I'm about 10 hours into the game, and I'm really surprised with how much fun I'm having with it. If you can get past the sub-par camera and mediocre graphics, it's a blast. Anyone here played it, or am I alone?

I was actually very interested in this game until i played the demo. The gameplay itself wasnt bad but the camera was so terrible that it instantly turned me off from the game.

Yeah but that's really the game's only flaw. It would be a much bigger issue if it was an action game, but I learned to work with it after a while.

I have seen it before at Gamestop, but it just didnt interest me. I mean, I like my strategy rpgs, but WW2 + anime + Atlus just didn't sit too well with me for some reason.

That's what's so interesting about the plot. It takes actual history and combines it with fantasy role-playing cliches.

Yeah that's true. Atlus never seems to sell many copies of their games, no matter how good they are. Subsequently they probably don't have the budget to render games with current-gen graphics. Operation Darkness's graphics look like they would be at home on a ps2.

Atlus licenses games that all have a similar appeal, and that's not a bad thing, but sometimes the games are generic carbon-copies of similar games that are actually good.

I can think of a number of similar grid-based strategy rpgs similar to the gameplay of Operation Darkness, but Shadow Hearts is the only game I can think of that has any similarities as far as setting (even though it's a completely different type of rpg).

My friend bought it, played it for 2 days and hasn't picked it up since. The plot is horrifying, characters are all very cliche, camera makes the game unplayable, music is bad, weapon variations are small and never can compare to a good ol RPG, turning into a wolf= not as cool as you think.

Go a head and buy it if its less than 30, but im warning you right now that its not a stellar game.

Most of atlus's games are behind the times in graphics. I've never heard anyone complain about how final fantasy tactics has snes graphics even though it's a ps1 game.

I liked it when I played the demo, up until the moment one of my character's died and that was the game over so I thought screw it, it's not worth it.

I'm not talking about just graphics, I mean everything. The horrible camera, terrible controls, tedious gameplay, etc. all remind of the poor quality PS1/PS2 games of old. If a game is good I can overlook low to mid range graphics, but IMO it's not.
