I understand where people come from, but its also just the way it is. Gaming has never been cheap, even when i was young NES games were 50 bucks, that price has always been etched into my mind for gaming. Its just not the cheapest hobby, but then again its also a hobby that does supply you with a good bit of entertainment value long after purchase, depending on the game.
Its like even cable, i spend 200+ a month on just my tv, internet and phone that i dont even use, yet without the phone it would be even more expensive. But i want it, so its like the value is there even though i hate the price, same with gaming sure id love 40 buck games, but its just not how life is. But its still better than what games used to cost with the Neo Geo, one game was 200 bucks, or a cheapy was 150 back then.
You just got to embrace it, but no to answer the question HD hasnt gone to far. Infact for how amazing that it is, and its price of only 60 bucks moving up only 10 bucks in about 20 some years, i think is pretty dang good.

damn, how could i forget about neo-geo... that was like somewhere between for the console when i was in 4th grade... There was NNNOOO way i was gonna ever get that as a gift when i was younger.. Panasonic 3d0 was also about 600 when it first launched although the system was trash imo.. But you are right-- gaming was never cheapGoing past 720P is already going overboard and now 1080P and requiring new cable that cost 40$.
I dont own a money tree I was fine with my 180$ CRTV
I don't understand this. Evolving is a natural part of everything saying that it's gone "Too-far" just makes you sound outdated and out of touch.
If you want games to stay where they were that's fine, sell your 360 and buy a sega genesis and i'm sure you'll get a lot of use out of it. However i enjoy seeing technology evolving and going one better than it's ever gone before.
I remember seeing the Playstation 2 in action for the first time and i thought "Holy crap this is the best console ever, how will anything surpass this."
[QUOTE="Drunkenmunkey15"]
Am i the only one that remember GameBoy Color? That was like Epic when it came out. Now we have these over priced games that are supposed to be "Like You're There" Honestly, if we were to get anymore high def than this we would have to be litterally in the game, and with the games i play i don't want that to happen.
I love the classics. I still play GTA 2 where it's still in a birds eye view, and every now and then i like to break out the Tony Hawk Pro Skater for my Playstation1 which somehow still works. I can't believe we have to pay $60 for some of these newer games, it's getting to be a little ridiculous. So, has the whole "HD" Thing gone a little too far?
cupcake_JR
what? do you even know what "HD" means? and there is no point of getting larger definitions unless the TV size is bigger. (example, a 32" TV WON'T look any different with 1080p then with 720p.) Therefore, this topic makes neer to no sense.
It all depends on the distance you are sitting from the display, I am using a 32'' pc monitor, and 720p vs 1080p is beyond worlds of difference. BTW I agree the TC is using the word HD like mustard on chocolate.Sonny, i don't know where the hell you where getting n64 games for $70... eBay? bad idea
But heres another point if you are all like "snar snar snar wtf"
We Spend HELLS OF LOADS of money for all of this technology, guess who doesn't even have water filters? Or Law enforcments? Hospitals? So, here's my plan. XBOX 360 is nice, its a good way to relax, but if we stopped making XBOXs and Playstations and started using some of that money, and trust me if we stopped playing XBOX there would be a **** load of money left over, we could spend some of that on the people who dont even have clean water. Honestly i love my XBOX 360, i love gaming, i love doing nothing all day, but in a few months, (when i get all my **** together in this country) I am going down to africa to help the locals with getting clean water and teaching them about health and safey.. yeah.. All that extra pocket change that goes into making HD **** could be greatly used for other people, and people in africa would greatly appreciate the donation, trust me. I mean, just think about all the money you would still have if we just sticked with n64 or playstation 1.
PS: We could still use the XBOXs that we've already made, but stop the production of more XBOXs and Playstations. I wouldn'ts want to make anyone cry by running into their house and stealing their xbox, that ****s expensive.
Drunkenmunkey15
Comparing Xbox and people having clean water is a ridiculous comparison. What do you mean by "WE" could spend some of that money? You want game developers who work years on a game to give it away? LOL Get out of here you socialist.
I will honestly rather pay 60 dollars for a good game than a dollar for a game that looks so bad that i cant even play italvin201I supporty this! /\/\/\ HD is sooo last gen any way, were going into the RLD if you didn't know that already! (RLD= Real Life Def.)

the industry is evolving.technonlogy is growing and they are going to use it. if you want to play those classic games there are companies out there that still make them. no one has forgotten because i still have my original nes and sega.even though the sound doesnt work.games are evolving into bigger and better things. just think of the gamers who were into atari and now play 360 or ps3. its advanced so much that you look forward to see whats next. old systems like that bring back memories.but systems now show you the future of gaming and where it can take you. i mean with online now you can download everything you want. so theres nothing wrong with moving forward. we will still remember the gameboys and the sega. but we want bigger and better things now. it also takes money to make games so our 60 bones goes towards of course paying the people but also to make the games we play.
[QUOTE="Col_Kilgore"]Why do people complain about price? Games have ALWAYS been in the $50 to $60 range.nelfer320R u serious!? I remember two gens ago when games were $30-$40 dollars max. Only recently with some DS and PSP games set at 30 bucks and occasionally at 40. Im 30, been gaming since 1982ish, and the 16 bit era had massive prices sometimes reaching 70-80 bucks for some games, no game era ever had 40 dollar pricetags. 50 was the standard for the most part, and only recently did the standard jump to 60.
I think you're confusing the term HD with modern. That said, I think the majority of gamers love classic games with older graphics and gameplay elements just as much as they do these newer games with the latest technology. I have a feeling we will continue to see those kinds of games come out alongside ones with newer ideas and more realistic graphics.
HD, on the other hand...I really don't feel like it makes any difference. I think DVDs and Blu-Ray discs themselves have much better quality than just watching television, but I never saw where games in HD or HD channels or HD this and that did anything worthwhile. Maybe I have to spend more money for special cables to enhance that stuff, who knows. I'm fine with what I've got.

I am not saying ALL games, I know some games are more or less than others, but for the most part the first guy was right, game prices are steadily increasing every console gen.

And only recent did it hop to 60. But when y ou think about it, NES games at 50...for how they looked, til now and how they look, 60 bucks i think is an absolute steal.

a steal is going to the pawn shop when you were little and only paying like 10 bucks for them that was awesome.

I was born in 1989. I grew up with games since the SNES and Genesis. I know what I'm talking about.Ok, as an example, nes era games were always priced more than 60$ and if you even account for a little inflation the margin is huge. I remember buying secret of mana for 110$ on the snes, and almost all games on the n64 were 80$, again 30-40$ sounds way off. perhaps some ps1 games were very competitively priced. But considering how 60$ for a nes game in 1988 ends up being 100$ now, you do the math.
btw i'm canadian so perhaps my numbers are higher, but it's all relative between the same currency; games as a whole cost more back in the day, that's a fact.

Yep. But aside from that, to me 60 bucks for in most cases you figure average game is 8-12 hours, and then most of the time replayable...thats a good bit of hours. Or games like Fallout or other rpgs, youre lookin at 100+ hours for some people all for 60 bucks. Thats not bad when a movie is 10 bucks at the theater for only 2 hours of entertainment, i mean gaming isnt cheap but it really packs alot of content for the price.well hd has nothing to do with graphics seriously only the clearity in text
with that said, yea we are paying 10 extra for nothing , then in thee end they get us to pay more for the complete game by the time everything (dlc) is released,
which mosto f the stuff is done on purpose, just to make us waste money,
look at those maps in pd0 for example. the 4 are still 800 mspoints, and for what, i dont know, and those songs for guitar hero , /.rockband, not like they do anything other than take up hdd space , instead of making us pay for music we may already own why dont they let us do custom sound tracks
then when you compare a 60 dollar game to a older game like goldeneye especailly perfect dark zero , your gonna wish you never paid that much ,
do you really think graphics is what makes the price go up, i dont, because if that were the case why are pc games are 10 cheaper,
beat me, but this is why i wait til a price drop until i buy a hyped game which i know half rthe tiem they dont live up to the hype .give me a break people, movies have better looking art then any game lol and they dont even cost 20 now lol, so ya i do believe we are paying for somthing not neccesary and that ahould be optional just like in last gen ,
and still costed 49,.99 to top that off,
had split screen and all where as this gen its all 50 online play, no free multiplayer, unless its a sports game and a few other games,
like cod or pd0 \
but a title like quantum of solace which we all should have expected it since goldeneye had it, and every 007 games out side ps1 titles had it,
so why strip it out of qos(ps2 ps3 360 versions) but put it in wii version does not make any sense, i feel cheated instead of paying 60 we should be paying 29-39 for handhelds as we are and 49(the standard wii pricing) and under we sh ouldnt have to pa 60 unless theirs bundled hardware gh and rock band and wii fit are exceptions as well as limited editions,
so ya i dont mind the nice graphics and all but 10 more for it is way to much especally since they shorten most games now adays
are we changing things yet guys? have the prices gone down already? we make the difference. a lot of things were cheaper 15 years ago, and nothing looked as good as it does today in terms of games.

No, I love the current generation HD graphics.
A few years back (around the PS1 era), I read a thread where someone was moaning about 3d graphics, saying that there was no need and that games should go back to 2d side scrollers. Look at games now though.
Its called progress, and it should never be halted!
